## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

AIA HYROX Hong Kong opens the 2027 calendar with four days of racing at AsiaWorld-Expo, a venue that sits right next to Hong Kong International Airport. That makes it one of the easiest races on the circuit to fly in for. You can land, check in a few minutes away and save the city for after you cross the line.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 January 2027
- **Venue:** AsiaWorld-Expo
- **Address:** 1 Airport Expo Blvd, Chek Lap Kok, Lantau, Hong Kong
- **Nearest public transport:** AsiaWorld-Expo station on the MTR Airport Express, which is inside the venue, plus a bus terminus with routes from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and Tung Chung
- **Divisions:** Open, Pro and Adaptive singles; Open and Pro Doubles; Men's, Women's and Mixed Relay; and Corporate Relay
- **Schedule:** Waves run from Thursday morning to Sunday evening, with the last wave expected to start around 8:00 PM. HYROX links individual start times about three days before the event.

### Getting to the venue

**From the airport:** The Airport Express runs from Airport station to AsiaWorld-Expo station, and event organizers put the ride at a minute or two. Taxis are another option. Both urban (red) and Lantau (blue) taxis serve the stand by the main entrance.

**From the city center:** Take the Airport Express from Hong Kong station (Central) or Kowloon station. Event guides put the trip from Kowloon and downtown at about 28 minutes. If you're on a tighter budget, bus routes E11 and E11A run from Hong Kong Island, E21, E22 and E22A run from Kowloon, and route S1 runs from Tung Chung to the AsiaWorld-Expo bus terminus. Check the MTR journey planner before race day.

### Where to stay

Most athletes pick one of three bases. **SkyCity**, next to the venue, gives you the shortest commute. **Tung Chung** is a nearby town with an MTR station, an outlet mall and more food options. **Central or Kowloon** suits you if you want city nights and don't mind the Airport Express ride.

- **Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel:** It's linked to AsiaWorld-Expo by a short footbridge, so it's the closest option to the start line.
- **Regala Skycity Hotel:** It's also in SkyCity and connects to AsiaWorld-Expo and the 11 SKIES complex by an enclosed footbridge.
- **Regal Airport Hotel:** It's linked directly to Terminal 1, one Airport Express stop from the venue.
- **Novotel Citygate Hong Kong:** It's in Tung Chung with access to Tung Chung MTR station through Citygate Outlets, and a hotel shuttle runs to the airport area.
- **Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel:** It sits above T-Bay in Tung Chung, about a 10-minute drive from AsiaWorld-Expo.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **The Vault Fitness (Sheung Wan):** It has a sled track, SkiErg and other race kit, and it offers single-session drop-in bookings through direct message.
- **Tribal Fitness (Central):** It's on Hollywood Road and is described as an official HYROX-affiliated venue running race-prep classes.
- **Coastal Fitness (North Point):** It's a strength and conditioning gym that runs HYROX-style group sessions.
- **perFIT (Wan Chai, Mong Kok, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan):** It's recognized as an official HYROX training base and has a 20-meter track and race-station equipment.
- **EFX24 (multiple branches, including Cheung Sha Wan and Kowloon Bay):** It's listed as an official HYROX Training Club with 24-hour access.

### Where locals run

- **Tung Chung Waterfront (Tung Chung):** A flat paved promenade a short walk from Tung Chung MTR Exit C, popular with joggers, with Lantau's peaks and the Ngong Ping cable cars overhead. The promenade itself is only about 1 km, so link it with the neighboring waterfront parks for a longer easy loop. It's the closest proper running spot to the Tung Chung and SkyCity hotels.
- **Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade (Tsim Sha Tsui):** About 4 km of flat waterfront path from the Star Ferry and Clock Tower east toward Hung Hom, with skyline views across the harbor. It gets crowded with tourists, so go early in the morning. It's a short MTR ride from Kowloon station on the Airport Express.
- **Bowen Road Fitness Trail (Mid-Levels):** A traffic-free, mostly flat and well-shaded path of about 3 km above Central and Wan Chai, with fitness stations and toilets along the way. Run it out and back for about 6 km. It's the go-to easy run for anyone staying on Hong Kong Island.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Café Aficionado (Regal Airport Hotel):** It serves international buffets, including breakfast, a quick hop from the venue.
- **TeaWood Taiwanese Cafe & Restaurant (Citygate Outlets, Tung Chung):** It's a casual spot for rice and noodle dishes near the Tung Chung hotels.
- **Tim Ho Wan (Hong Kong Station, Central):** It's the dim sum specialist's branch on the IFC podium, handy before you catch the Airport Express.
- **Australia Dairy Company (Jordan, Kowloon):** It's a classic cha chaan teng known for its scrambled-egg breakfast sets. Expect a queue.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, community run or fan zone had been announced for AIA HYROX Hong Kong 2027. AIA Hong Kong has said it will run wellness and community programs alongside its title partnership, but no specific race-week events have been named yet. Check HYROX Hong Kong's official channels and local run clubs closer to January. Don't mix this race up with the PUMA HYROX World Championships, which return to AsiaWorld-Expo on 10 to 13 June 2027.

### After the race

**Recovery:** The Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel has the Quan Spa, an indoor heated pool, a sauna and a steam room, all a short walk from the finish.

**Things to do:**
- Ride the **Ngong Ping 360** cable car from Tung Chung up to the Ngong Ping plateau on Lantau Island.
- Cross Victoria Harbour on the **Star Ferry** between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central.
- Head to **Citygate Outlets** in Tung Chung for post-race shopping and food.

### Local insights

- **Tap your bank card on the MTR, including the Airport Express:** Contactless Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay cards and phone wallets work at MTR gates, and since 31 May 2026 that includes the Airport Express. Use the same card or phone to enter and exit, and hold out just one card so the gate doesn't pick the wrong one. You pay the adult Octopus fare, though your bank may add a foreign transaction fee.
- **Still get an Octopus:** Minibuses, street food stalls and many small cha chaan tengs take only Octopus or cash. iPhone users can add a tourist Octopus to Apple Wallet through the Octopus app (HK$50 refundable deposit), and Android users can use Google Wallet. Keep a few hundred Hong Kong dollars in cash for the gaps too.
- **Taxis now have to take e-payment:** Since 1 April 2026, Hong Kong taxis must offer at least two electronic payment methods, but drivers still like cash. Uber works, and its Pair & Pay feature lets you scan a QR code in a street-hailed red or blue taxi and pay through the app. HKTaxi is the other widely used app for booking cabs.
- **Tap water is safe:** The Water Supplies Department treats water to WHO guideline standards, and the head of the department has drunk it publicly to make the point. Many locals still boil it out of habit or worries about old building pipes.
- **Check the bill before tipping:** Most sit-down restaurants add a 10% service charge, so you don't need to tip on top. At cha chaan tengs and fast food places, nobody expects a tip.
- **Electrolytes at Watsons:** The Watsons pharmacy chain sells Pocari Sweat electrolyte powder sachets. Gels are harder to find on the high street, so pack your own race-day gels.
- **Watch for cold surges:** January is the dry season, but a northerly winter monsoon surge can drop the temperature sharply overnight. The Observatory issues a Cold Weather Warning when lows reach about 12°C (54°F), and mornings can be colder on exposed spots like Lantau. Bring a proper warm layer for the early waves, not just a T-shirt.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Arrive early.** Bring photo ID because you can't check in for someone else. HYROX will confirm check-in times and locations closer to the date.
- **Your race-day access is limited.** Athletes can enter the hall early only on their own race day, using the athlete ticket QR code at spectator check-in. On any other day you'll need a spectator ticket.
- **Spectators need tickets,** sold separately on the HYROX event page.
- **Expect mild, dry weather.** Hong Kong Observatory averages for January show a daily mean of about 16.5°C (62°F), average relative humidity around 74% and little rain. Pack a warm layer for before and after your wave.
- **Check bag drop details.** The event page doesn't cover bag drop yet, so read the athlete information HYROX publishes before race week.
