## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX is finally coming to Malaysia, with four days of racing at MITEC, the country's largest exhibition center, next to Mont Kiara on the city's northwest side. The one thing to know is that MITEC has no train station on its doorstep, so plan to finish every trip by Grab or taxi. December is hot, humid and stormy, so plan your weekend around the heat and the rain.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 December 2026
- **Venue:** Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC)
- **Address:** Kompleks MITEC, 8 Jalan Dutamas 2, Kompleks Kerajaan, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- **Nearest public transport:** Semantan MRT (Kajang Line), less than 10 minutes away by car; KTM Segambut, about a 20-minute walk; or RapidKL bus 851 or 852 to the KL 1022 MATRADE South stop, a 4-minute walk away
- **Divisions:** Open and Pro singles, Adaptive (men and women), Open and Pro Doubles, and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays

### Getting to the venue

**From KLIA:** Take the KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral, about 28 minutes, then a Grab or taxi to MITEC, about a 15-minute drive. If you're staying in Mont Kiara or Hartamas, a taxi straight from the airport is simpler. Dorsett Hartamas puts the drive at about 45 minutes.

**From the city center:** Take the MRT Kajang Line to Semantan, then a short Grab. Ask to be dropped at the MITEC South Entrance, which is where the venue directs taxis and e-hailing cars.

**Shuttles and parking:** At past big shows, free shuttles have run every 15 minutes from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall. None has been confirmed for HYROX. MITEC parking costs RM10 for the first hour, capped at RM15 a day.

### Where to stay

**Mont Kiara** is the natural base, and the only area where you can walk to the venue. **Sri Hartamas** offers better value and lots of restaurants. **KL Sentral** puts the airport train at your door and is about 15 minutes from MITEC by car.

- **Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown:** It's opposite MITEC, a 5- to 8-minute walk, so you can rest in your room until close to your wave.
- **Hyatt House Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara:** It's a 2 to 3 km drive from MITEC, with apartment-style rooms where you can cook your own pre-race meal.
- **Dorsett Hartamas:** It's in Sri Hartamas, about a 6 km drive away, with restaurants on its doorstep.
- **Sunway Putra Hotel:** It's on Jalan Putra, about an 8-minute drive away, next to a mall that has served as a MITEC shuttle stop.
- **Hilton Kuala Lumpur:** It's next to KL Sentral, 28 minutes from the airport by KLIA Ekspres and about 16 minutes from MITEC by car.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Fitness First The Curve (Mutiara Damansara):** Fitness First says it's Malaysia's official HYROX Training Club, with race-standard sleds and SkiErgs. Non-members can book one free HYROX class. No day pass is listed.
- **Fitness First Avenue K (KLCC):** A city-center club with the same HYROX classes and free trial class.
- **Fitness First The Gardens Mall (Mid Valley):** It's on the same HYROX class timetable. Book your free class ahead.
- **MORPH by Kamileon (Bukit Kiara):** It's on Level 6 of Menara KLGCC. It calls itself KL's flagship HYROX training studio and lists HYROX and Open Gym slots on ClassPass. Drop-in pricing isn't confirmed.

### Where locals run

- **Bukit Kiara Park (Taman Tun Dr Ismail):** The nearest proper running spot to MITEC. The mostly paved Kiara Hill Walk is about 5 km with roughly 145 m of climbing. For an easy shakeout, the flat paved area by the TTDI entrance is better.
- **The Central Park (Desa ParkCity):** Flat, tree-lined paths circle a lake, with loops of 1 to 2.3 km. It's a popular place to run at sunset.
- **Perdana Botanical Gardens (Lembah Pantai):** These were KL's old Lake Gardens. There's a 3.1 km loop around the conservatory, a short walk from Muzium Negara MRT.
- **KLCC Park (KLCC):** A 1.3 km rubberized loop beneath the Petronas Towers, marked every 100 m, with drinking fountains.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Village Park Restaurant (Damansara Uptown):** It has been one of KL's best-known nasi lemak spots for more than 20 years and opens at 6:30am, so it's a good choice for a big breakfast.
- **Midtown Brasserie (Mont Kiara):** This all-day restaurant at the Hyatt Regency, opposite MITEC, serves Malaysian favorites and Western classics. You can eat before your heat without traveling.
- **China House (Mont Kiara):** It's also at the Hyatt Regency, serving dim sum and wood-fired Peking duck. Book it for a post-race feast.
- **Publika (Solaris Dutamas):** The shopping gallery next to MITEC has dozens of restaurants and cafés plus a supermarket. It's handy for a rice or noodle meal between heats.
- **Jalan Alor (Bukit Bintang):** KL's famous street-food strip. Save it for a post-race night out.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, fan village or community run had been announced for AirAsia HYROX Kuala Lumpur, and ceremony times were still TBC. AirAsia says it's running community activations with selected HYROX Training Club gyms, so watch Fitness First Malaysia's channels and https://hyrox.com/ as race week gets closer.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Rise & Plunge (Mont Kiara):** It offers contrast-therapy sessions in a sauna and ice bath on Level 2 of 1 Mont Kiara mall.
- **Sweatspa (Solaris Dutamas):** It has infrared sauna sessions in the Solaris area beside MITEC, open 9am to 9pm daily.

**Things to do:**

- Climb the 272 rainbow steps at **Batu Caves**, 13 km north of the city by KTM Komuter from KL Sentral.
- Loosen your legs in **KLCC Park**, then see the **Petronas Twin Towers** lit up at night.
- Walk the shady paths around Perdana Lake in **Perdana Botanical Gardens**.
- Eat your way down **Jalan Alor** after dark.

### Local insights

- **Get a Touch 'n Go card:** RapidKL buses only take Touch 'n Go, and train fares cost less with it than with a token. Buy one at a station counter and keep at least RM5 on it. Some MRT gates accept bank cards, but don't rely on it.
- **Grab is the default:** Grab started in Kuala Lumpur as MyTeksi and took over Uber's Southeast Asian business in 2018. Locals use it for rides and food delivery.
- **No need to tip:** Tipping isn't expected. Hotels and many Western-style restaurants add a 10% service charge, so check your bill.
- **Drink bottled or filtered water:** Officials say treated water is safe, but older pipes mean most residents filter it. On race day, stick to bottled water or your hotel's dispenser.
- **Eat nasi lemak:** It's Malaysia's national dish and the classic local breakfast: coconut rice with sambal, anchovies, peanuts and egg. Before a hard effort, go heavy on the rice and light on the sambal.
- **Respect the monsoon:** December falls in the northeast monsoon. Expect highs around 32°C (90°F), lows around 24°C (75°F) and about 16 rainy days. Thunderstorms are common, so carry an umbrella.
- **Run early:** At Bukit Kiara, the TTDI guardhouse is open from 6:45am to 7pm. Go early in that window, before the heat builds.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Use the South Entrance.** MITEC directs taxis and e-hailing drop-offs to the South Entrance, so enter that in your Grab app.
- **Bring ID.** You need ID to check in, and you can't check in for anyone else. Registration times are still TBC.
- **Watch for your start time.** Start times come out about three days before the race and can't be changed. Last waves run until about 8:20pm.
- **Spectators need tickets.** Your race wristband only gets you in on your own race day.
- **Plan for storms.** The racing is indoors, but getting there isn't. Carry a rain layer, and leave extra time for evening traffic.
