## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Cologne is the race that happens inside FIBO, a huge fitness trade show, so you race in Hall 10.1 at Koelnmesse while the rest of the fitness industry fills the halls around you. The venue is in Deutz, right across the Rhine from the cathedral, with its own train station next door. Plan around one thing: on Sunday 11 April, almost every shop will be closed.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 8 April to Sunday 11 April 2027
- **Venue:** Koelnmesse (Hall 10.1), during FIBO
- **Address:** Koelnmesse/FIBO, Messeplatz 1, Hall 10.1, Entrance East, 50679 Cologne, Germany
- **Nearest public transport:** Koelnmesse/Osthallen tram stop (lines 3 and 4), directly in front of the Congress-Centrum Ost. Köln Messe/Deutz station (S-Bahn, regional trains and ICE) is about 350 m away on foot.
- **Divisions:** Singles, Doubles and Relay tickets are listed. As of 15 October 2026, the full division list and race schedule had not been published.

### Getting to the venue

**From Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN):** The S19 runs from the airport station straight to Köln Messe/Deutz with no change. FIBO puts the airport about 15 minutes away by S-Bahn or taxi. From the station, follow the "Koelnmesse" signs and then "Eingang Ost."

**From Düsseldorf or Frankfurt airport:** FIBO says both have direct train connections to Cologne.

**From the Hauptbahnhof and Old Town:** Köln Messe/Deutz is the first stop after the Rhine bridge on the S6, S11, S13 and most regional trains. You can also walk across the Hohenzollern Bridge. From the Old Town, trams 1 and 9 run to Köln Messe/Deutz, while trams 3 and 4 stop right at the east entrance.

### Where to stay

**Deutz** is the easy choice: you can walk to Hall 10.1 and to the Rhine. The **Old Town** is one stop across the river, with the cathedral and the brewhouses. The **Ring** area around Rudolfplatz is good for gyms and restaurants and has direct trams to Deutz.

- **Motel One Cologne-Messe (Deutz):** On Hans-Imhoff-Straße, close to Koelnmesse and Köln Messe/Deutz station.
- **Dorint Hotel An der Messe Köln (Deutz):** On Deutz-Mülheimer Straße, between the fair and the LANXESS arena. It has a pool, a fitness area and saunas.
- **Motel One Cologne-Altstadt (Old Town):** Between the Rhine and the main shopping streets, a quick hop across the river to the venue.
- **Steigenberger Hotel Köln (Rudolfplatz):** On Habsburgerring, with Rudolfplatz tram station directly next door.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **EVO Fitness Köln Ehrenstr. (Belgian Quarter):** Listed by EVO as one of its four official HYROX clubs in Germany, kitted out for HYROX training. EVO says it sells day passes, but it doesn't list a price.
- **Fitness First Köln Ehrenfeld (Ehrenfeld):** Runs 60-minute HYROX classes. A free trial session doesn't need a membership.
- **Fitness First Köln Deutz (Deutz):** The closest big gym to the venue, near the LANXESS arena, with strength and cardio areas and a sauna. You can book a trial session online, but HYROX kit and day passes aren't confirmed.

### Where locals run

- **Rheinpark (Deutz):** The riverside park that runs north from the trade fair grounds. The paths are flat, with cathedral views across the water, and you can walk there from Deutz hotels.
- **Hohenzollern Bridge and Deutz Bridge loop (Old Town):** Cross the Rhine on the Hohenzollern Bridge, past the love locks, run along the river and come back over the Deutz Bridge. Both bridges have footpaths.
- **Decksteiner Weiher (Lindenthal):** A lake in the outer green belt, where the simplest loop is about 5.8 km on parallel footpaths. A local running group meets there.
- **Stadtwald (Lindenthal):** About 205 ha of woods and ponds in the west of the city, with a big network of paths. Trams 1, 7 and 13 stop nearby, and line 1 comes direct from Deutz.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Brauhaus Sion (Old Town):** Order Himmel un Äd, Cologne's mash with stewed apple and blood sausage, or Käsespätzle the night before. Open daily from noon.
- **Gaffel am Dom (Old Town):** Next to the Hauptbahnhof and the cathedral. Breakfast runs from 10:00 to 11:30, which is handy before an afternoon heat.
- **Peters Brauhaus (Old Town):** A classic brewhouse that's open on Sundays until 21:30, so it works for dinner after you race.
- **Lommerzheim (Deutz):** A legendary Deutz pub famous for its huge pork chop, with fried potatoes or potato salad. It's closed on Tuesdays and takes cash only.

### Race weekend events and parties

Your race runs alongside FIBO, which is open from 9:00 to 18:00, Thursday to Sunday, in the same exhibition center. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, shakeout run or community event for HYROX Cologne had been announced. Check the HYROX and FIBO channels and Cologne run clubs closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Claudius Therme (Rheinpark):** Thermal pools and saunas at the north end of the Rheinpark, open daily from 9:00 to midnight, including Sundays.
- **Dorint Vital Spa (Deutz):** The hotel pool is open to non-guests for a day fee, and there are saunas and a steam room.

**Things to do:**

- Visit **Cologne Cathedral**. Since 1 July 2026, tourists pay €12 to go inside, and you can book online or at the Roncalliplatz ticket office. The 533-step tower climb can wait until your legs recover.
- Ride the **Kölner Seilbahn**, the cable car over the Rhine between the Zoo and the Rheinpark. The 2026 season ended in November, and the 2027 opening date wasn't out yet.
- Tour the **Chocolate Museum** on the river, open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.

### Local insights

- **Transit tickets:** A KVB single ticket for the city zone costs €3.50 and is valid for 90 minutes. The eezy.nrw check-in/check-out app works out your fare by distance and caps it. If you already have a Deutschlandticket, it covers S-Bahn, trams and regional trains, but not ICEs. The Deutschlandticket is a monthly subscription that Deutsche Bahn says goes up in price in January 2027.
- **Coins on the tram:** The ticket machines on board accept coins and cards but not banknotes. Riding without a ticket costs €60.
- **Sunday shutdown:** Shops in North Rhine-Westphalia close on Sundays. Buy gels, electrolytes and snacks by Saturday. Shops inside stations and airports are the usual exception. For a pharmacy on Sunday, use the Apothekerkammer Nordrhein emergency-pharmacy search.
- **Carry cash:** Some Cologne institutions still don't take cards. Lommerzheim is one of them, and it says so in bold.
- **Kölsch rules:** Kölsch comes in small 200 ml glasses, and the waiter, called a Köbes, keeps swapping in full ones until you put your beer mat on top of your glass. That's the polite way to stop.
- **April weather:** Average highs are around 16°C (61°F), with lows near 4.5°C (40°F) and rain on roughly 13 days of the month. Pack a warm layer and a rain jacket.
- **Sauna etiquette:** At the Claudius Therme, swimwear isn't allowed in the sauna area. Wear a towel or robe between saunas and always sit on your towel.
- **Getting a ride:** Uber runs in Cologne, including airport pickups. Taxis wait at the Koelnmesse entrances, and you can also call TAXI-RUF Cologne.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Head for Entrance East.** Hall 10.1 is reached through Entrance East. Trams 3 and 4 drop you right in front of it, while the walk from Köln Messe/Deutz station is about 350 m along the signs.
- **Allow for FIBO crowds.** The trade show opens at 9:00 in the same complex, so give yourself extra time for queues at the entrance and on trains.
- **Sort spectator access early.** FIBO sends HYROX spectators to its own ticket page, so friends should check which ticket they need for your race day.
- **Fuel before Sunday.** If you race on Sunday, do your supermarket run on Saturday.
