## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

London's December race at ExCeL is one of the biggest weekends on the HYROX calendar, with five days of racing beside Royal Victoria Dock in the city's east. The venue sits on the Elizabeth line, so you can land at Heathrow and reach the start without changing trains.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Wednesday 2 December to Sunday 6 December 2026
- **Venue:** ExCeL London
- **Address:** 1 Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, London E16 1XL
- **Nearest public transport:** Custom House (Elizabeth line and DLR) for the West Entrance; Prince Regent (DLR) for the East Entrance. Each is roughly 200 m from its entrance, according to ExCeL.
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro and Pro Doubles, and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays
- **Also on site:** HYROX Elite Series races (Elite 15 and Challenger 15 singles on Thursday 3 December, doubles on Friday 4 December) and HYROX Youngstars for ages 8 to 15

### Getting to the venue

**From Heathrow:** Take the Elizabeth line straight to Custom House with no change. Board a train heading toward Abbey Wood, since not every Elizabeth line service runs through to that branch. Event guides for ExCeL put the trip at roughly 45 minutes.

**From London City Airport:** City Airport is the closest airport to ExCeL. Take the DLR toward the city, change at Canning Town, and ride a Beckton-bound DLR train two stops to Custom House or Prince Regent.

**From Gatwick, Stansted or Luton:** Take the train into central London, then switch to the Elizabeth line east to Custom House.

**From central London:** The Elizabeth line runs direct to Custom House from Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, Whitechapel and Canary Wharf. You can also take the Jubilee line to Canning Town and change to a Beckton-bound DLR. From Bank or Tower Gateway, a Beckton-bound DLR goes straight to the venue. Pay with contactless or an Oyster card.

### Where to stay

**Royal Docks (walking distance):** The easiest choice for early check-ins. Several hotels line the dock right outside ExCeL.

**Canary Wharf:** One stop away on the Elizabeth line, with far more restaurants and gyms nearby.

**Stratford:** Good value and well connected, with the DLR to Canning Town and a quick change to the venue.

Hotels to look at:

- **Aloft London ExCeL:** On Eastern Gateway at Royal Victoria Dock, steps from the venue.
- **Novotel London ExCeL:** On Western Gateway overlooking the dock, a few minutes' walk from the venue.
- **Crowne Plaza London Docklands:** On Western Gateway near Royal Victoria DLR, an easy walk to ExCeL.
- **Sunborn London:** A yacht hotel moored on Royal Victoria Dock, a short walk from the venue.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Third Space Canary Wharf (Canary Wharf):** Home to the club's dedicated HYROX studio, which has a turf track, sleds, SkiErgs and RowErgs. Check access options with the club before you go.
- **Gymbox Westfield Stratford (Stratford):** Has a HYROX zone with a sled track, and Gymbox runs coached HYROX sessions there.
- **The Gym Group London Canning Town (Canning Town):** One DLR stop from the venue. It runs dedicated HYROX sessions, lists SkiErgs and rowers, and sells day passes.
- **Lee Valley VeloPark (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park):** Runs HYROX classes that mix running with sled pushes, rowing and SkiErg work. They're offered as part of membership.

### Where locals run

- **Royal Victoria Dock (Royal Docks):** The dockside paths start right outside ExCeL and pass the cable car, Millennium Mills and the old cranes. East End Road Runners have led 5 km group runs here, and it's the obvious flat shakeout if you're staying on the dock.
- **Greenwich Park (Greenwich):** About 74 hectares, with a flat lower half and a steep climb to the Royal Observatory. The London Marathon's red start is just south of the park. Get off the DLR at Cutty Sark or Greenwich.
- **Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (Stratford):** Riverside paths along the River Lea, close to the Stratford hotels. The park also has a six-lane community running track beside the London Stadium.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Dishoom Canary Wharf (Wood Wharf):** A big, all-day Bombay-style café that serves breakfast. Good for a solid morning meal before an afternoon heat.
- **Emilia's Crafted Pasta (Canary Wharf):** A fresh-pasta spot by the water in Wood Wharf, ideal for a carb-focused dinner the night before.
- **Pizza Pilgrims Canary Wharf (West India Quay):** Neapolitan pizza a short walk from Canary Wharf station. An easy, reliable pre-race meal.
- **Zero Sette (Royal Victoria Dock):** An Italian restaurant right by ExCeL, handy if you'd rather not travel after racing.

### Race weekend events and parties

Apart from the racing, the confirmed extras are the Elite Series races on 3 and 4 December, HYROX Youngstars and the on-site Entertainment Zone with event partners. Elite Series viewing needs a separate upgrade ticket. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Check HYROX's official channels and local run clubs closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Community Sauna Baths (Hackney Wick):** Wood-fired saunas with cold plunges included in your booking.
- **Arc (Canary Wharf):** A communal contrast-therapy club built around a large sauna and ice baths.

**Things to do:**

- Ride the cable car across the Thames from Royal Victoria to Greenwich Peninsula. ExCeL notes a discount for visitors who show an event ticket.
- Walk around Greenwich: the park, the Royal Observatory and the Cutty Sark are all in a compact area.
- Take the Elizabeth line into town for the West End's Christmas lights and markets.
- Visit the Tower of London and walk across Tower Bridge.

### Local insights

- **One card, tapped twice:** Touch in and out with the same contactless card or phone so daily caps apply. If you touch in with your phone and out with your watch, you pay more. Keep other cards away from the reader, and watch your phone battery: a dead phone at the exit gate means a maximum fare.
- **Black cabs take cards:** Every licensed London taxi must accept contactless with no surcharge. Rounding up the fare is the usual tip.
- **Check the bill before you tip:** Many restaurants add a service charge, usually 12.5%. If it's there, you don't need to tip again. Tipping at the bar in pubs isn't expected.
- **Free water everywhere:** London tap water is safe to drink. Licensed pubs, bars and restaurants must give you free tap water, and the Refill app shows thousands of places to top up your bottle.
- **Sunday hours:** Large supermarkets in England can open for only six hours on a Sunday, within 10:00 to 18:00. If you race on Sunday 6 December, buy recovery food the day before or use a smaller convenience store.
- **Short, dark days:** In December, Greenwich Park averages highs of about 9°C (48°F) and lows near 4°C (39°F), with rain on about 10 days and only around 50 hours of sunshine all month. Plan any outdoor shakeout for the middle of the day.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Check your entrance.** ExCeL's West and East Entrances are about 600 m apart. Custom House serves the west and Prince Regent the east, so check your event info before you set off.
- **Arrive early.** With thousands of athletes racing each day, give yourself plenty of time for check-in and bag drop.
- **Bring ID.** Spectators who arrive before a division's check-in window go through the Spectators Desk with a ticket and ID.
- **Spectator tickets:** Spectators need their own tickets. Athletes can only watch on the day they race, and the Elite Series races need an upgrade ticket.
- **Weather:** Early December in London is usually cold, damp and dark by late afternoon. Bring a warm layer and a waterproof jacket for the walk from the station, plus dry clothes for the trip back.
