## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Amsterdam takes over RAI Amsterdam, the city's big convention center in the south, for two blocks of racing in late January: a Friday-to-Sunday weekend and then a Wednesday-to-Sunday week. It has its own train station and metro stop, so getting there is easy even on dark winter mornings. Check which block your heat falls in before you book flights, and pack for cold rain.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Friday 22 to Sunday 31 January 2027, in two blocks: Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January, then Wednesday 27 to Sunday 31 January
- **Venue:** RAI Amsterdam
- **Address:** Europaplein 24, 1078 GZ Amsterdam, Netherlands
- **Nearest public transport:** Europaplein metro station (line 52) right outside the venue, and Amsterdam RAI train station, which the venue says is a 3-minute walk
- **Divisions:** Open (singles), Pro (singles), Adaptive, Doubles (Men, Women and Mixed), Pro Doubles, Relay (Men, Women and Mixed) and the Company Challenge corporate relay on Friday 29 January
- **Also on site:** HYROX Youngstars, a race for ages 8 to 15, at RAI Amsterdam on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January

### Getting to the venue

**From Schiphol Airport:** Take the train to Amsterdam RAI station. The venue says Schiphol is about 10 minutes away by train. Tap in with a contactless bank card or phone, and tap out at RAI.

**From Amsterdam Centraal:** Metro line 52, the North-South line, runs from Centraal Station to Europaplein, whose entrances are right in front of the convention center.

### Where to stay

Base yourself in **Zuid**, around the RAI and Europaboulevard, if you want to walk to the start. **De Pijp** is one metro stop north, with the Albert Cuyp Market and plenty of cafés. The **canal belt and center** are a direct line 52 ride away if you'd rather stay among the sights.

- **nhow Amsterdam RAI:** A 650-room hotel the venue describes as a stone's throw from the RAI, the easiest roll-out-of-bed option.
- **Novotel Amsterdam City:** On Europaboulevard, within walking distance of RAI station.
- **Motel One Amsterdam:** A value pick on Europaboulevard close to both the RAI and Beatrixpark.
- **Hotel Okura Amsterdam:** On Ferdinand Bolstraat in De Pijp, with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room in its Nagomi spa.
- **Motel One Amsterdam-Waterlooplein:** A budget-friendly base in the eastern center if you want canals and museums on your doorstep.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Vondelgym (Zuidas):** Its largest club is on the Zuidas near the North-South line, and it calls itself an official HYROX gym with HYROX classes at the Zuid location. A day pass costs €19.50.
- **CrossFit Amsterdam (Oud-Zuid):** A box on Karperweg with a HYROX coach and HYROX training. Drop-ins cost €20 for one class.
- **Sin City Boxing (Rivierenbuurt):** On Rijnstraat, close to the RAI, with a HYROX x Functional class. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed, so contact the gym.
- **AmstelGym (Oost):** An official HYROX gym where you can walk in and buy single gym access at the front desk. Prices aren't published, so ask on arrival.

### Where locals run

- **Beatrixpark (Zuid):** The tourism board lists a 2.5 km loop on hard paths, close to the RAI and Motel One.
- **Amstel riverside (Centrum):** The standard route runs about 5 km along the river from Koningsplein past the Carré theater to Amstelpark. The long version continues to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, about 23 km.
- **Vondelpark (Zuid):** Amsterdam's best-known park run is a 3.3 km loop. It's well lit for dark January mornings, but it gets busy, so keep to the side and watch for cyclists.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **The Pancake Bakery (Grachtengordel):** More than 75 kinds of Dutch pancakes in a 17th-century canal warehouse on Prinsengracht, open daily from 9:00. A sweet or savory pannenkoek is an easy carb load.
- **Moeders (Jordaan):** A small, traditional Dutch restaurant on Rozengracht, open daily from 17:00. It has only 38 seats and takes bookings online only, so reserve before you travel.
- **Foodhallen (Oud-West):** An indoor food hall with 19 stands, from Indonesian street food to ramen and pizza, open daily from 12:00 to 23:00.
- **Albert Cuyp Market (De Pijp):** Amsterdam's best-known street market, open Monday to Saturday from 9:30 to 17:00. Grab fresh fruit, or a bag of stroopwafels for after the race.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party or community run had been announced for HYROX Amsterdam. HYROX lists an Entertainment Zone with partners, a BLACKROLL Recovery Zone and a Finish Zone at the venue, plus HYROX Youngstars on 23 and 24 January and the Company Challenge on 29 January. Ceremony times are still to be announced, so watch HYROX Benelux's official channels closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **BLACKROLL Recovery Zone (RAI):** HYROX lists a recovery zone run by BLACKROLL at the venue.
- **Nagomi Spa (De Pijp):** Hotel Okura's spa has an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Access for non-guests isn't confirmed, so it's best if you're staying there.

**Things to do:**

- See the Dutch Masters at the **Rijksmuseum** on Museumplein.
- Wander the **Albert Cuyp Market** on Saturday, one metro stop from the venue.
- Walk an easy cool-down along the **Amstel** past the Carré theater.

### Local insights

- **Tap your card, and tap out again:** Amsterdam's public transport is cashless. Tap in and out with the same contactless bank card, phone or watch. Metro stations have gates, and GVB caps contactless fares at €10.50 a day on its trams, buses and metro.
- **Uber and Bolt both work:** Both apps run rides in Amsterdam, including larger cars.
- **Drink the tap water:** The tourism board says you can drink tap water everywhere in the Netherlands, and Waternet tests Amsterdam's water daily.
- **Tip modestly:** Tipping isn't required, but a modest 5 to 10 percent is customary in restaurants.
- **January is cold, grey and damp:** Average highs are about 6°C (43°F) and lows about 1°C (34°F), with around 12 rainy days and only about 69 hours of sunshine in the whole month. Pack gloves, a hat and a waterproof layer for your shakeout.
- **Eat stamppot like a local:** The Dutch winter carb load is stamppot, potatoes mashed with kale (boerenkool) or carrots and onions (hutspot), usually with rookworst smoked sausage.
- **Watch the bike lanes:** Traffic moves fast on two wheels here. Walk on the pavement, not in cycle lanes or on tram tracks, and look both ways before you cross.
- **Restock at Decathlon:** If you forget your gels or electrolytes, the sporting-goods chain has five Amsterdam stores, including Wibautstraat 29 in Oost and one at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Don't arrive before 07:00.** Doors open at 07:00 for everyone, including athletes in the 8:00 waves, and on-site registration opens 90 minutes before each division's first start.
- **Bring physical ID.** You can only check in on your own race day, and you'll leave with a wristband, an ankle timing chip and a bib.
- **Pack a small bag.** Bag drop is next to the changing rooms, everything must fit inside the bag, and you need to collect it within an hour of finishing.
- **Check your start time three days out.** HYROX publishes individual start times about three days before the event and doesn't allow changes.
- **Get spectators a ticket.** Friends and family need their own spectator ticket, which also covers the Youngstars races on 23 and 24 January.
- **Take the metro, not the car.** Parking details are still to be announced, and Europaplein station is right outside the door.
