## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Birmingham runs for six days at the NEC, the UK's giant exhibition center on the city's eastern edge. Birmingham International station and the airport are right next door, so it's one of the easiest venues anywhere to reach. Late October is cool and often damp, and the clocks go back two days before racing starts, so bring a warm layer.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Tuesday 27 October to Sunday 1 November 2026
- **Venue:** NEC Birmingham
- **Address:** NEC, Pendigo Way, Marston Green, Birmingham B40 1NT
- **Nearest public transport:** Birmingham International station, about a 5-minute walk to the NEC via a covered walkway
- **Divisions:** Open (singles), Pro (singles), Doubles, Pro Doubles, Relay and Adaptive. Provisionally, Pro singles and Relays race on Friday 30 October and Pro Doubles on Saturday evening.
- **Also on site:** The Thunderdome spectator area, plus a separate Youngstars race for ages 8 to 15.

### Getting to the venue

**From Birmingham Airport (BHX):** Take the free Air-Rail Link from the upper level of Terminal 1 to Birmingham International station. The ride takes about 90 seconds, then follow the signs to the NEC.

**From Birmingham city centre:** Trains from New Street to Birmingham International take 10 to 15 minutes. Buses including the X1, X12 and 75/75A also serve the NEC.

**By car or taxi:** The NEC is signposted from the M42, M40 and M6. Taxis drop off at the Piazza or Atrium entrance.

### Where to stay

The **NEC complex** is the easiest base, with hotels in walking distance and food at Resorts World next door. **Birmingham city centre** is livelier and often cheaper, a quick train ride away.

- **Hilton Birmingham Metropole:** Hilton describes it as directly connected to the NEC complex, so you can walk to check-in.
- **Moxy Birmingham NEC:** It's a 224-room Marriott hotel on the NEC site, within walking distance of Resorts World.
- **Crowne Plaza Birmingham NEC:** It's a short walk from the NEC and Resorts World, and only about five minutes' drive from the airport.
- **Genting Hotel:** It's a boutique four-star hotel inside Resorts World, next to the Santai Spa.
- **Clayton Hotel Birmingham:** It's a city-centre hotel about a 10-minute walk from New Street.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **The Gym Group Birmingham Sheldon (Sheldon):** It's a 24/7 gym on Coventry Road, the nearest of the chain to the NEC, with a SkiErg, a Prowler track and sled, and HYROX classes. A day pass costs £10.99.
- **The Gym Group Shirley (Shirley):** It's a 24/7 gym in Solihull with three SkiErgs, a Prowler track and sled, and ten rowers. A day pass costs £9.99.
- **The Gym Group Birmingham Broad Street (Ladywood):** It's a 24/7 gym near the city centre hotels, with two SkiErgs, a sled track and HYROX sessions. A day pass costs £8.99.
- **Willclare Fitness Club (Sheldon):** Its website calls it an official HYROX partnered gym, with a dedicated HYROX space. No day pass is listed, so call ahead.

### Where locals run

- **Birmingham canal towpaths (City Centre):** The paved, flat, traffic-free towpaths run past Brindleyplace, Gas Street Basin and the Mailbox. A popular route is about 8 km (5 miles) from the Mailbox. Watch for cyclists.
- **Edgbaston Reservoir (Ladywood):** A paved loop of about 2.8 km (1.75 miles) circles this 70-acre reservoir, just west of the city centre.
- **Cannon Hill Park (Moseley):** It's Birmingham's most popular park, with several kilometres of tarmac paths along the River Rea and the boating lake. It also hosts a free 5 km parkrun every Saturday at 9 a.m.
- **Elmdon Park (Solihull):** It's a small, hilly park near the airport, a short taxi ride from the NEC, with a perimeter path past its lakes.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Shababs (Balsall Heath):** It's one of the original balti houses on Ladypool Road, in the heart of the Balti Triangle, and it has been open since 1987. Order a chicken balti with naan the night before for a proper Birmingham carb load.
- **Zizzi (Resorts World):** Pasta a few minutes' walk from the halls makes an easy pre-race dinner.
- **Nando's (Resorts World):** Grilled chicken with rice is a simple post-race refuel, right next to the venue.
- **Miller & Carter (Resorts World):** This steakhouse works for a celebratory post-race dinner.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, community run or shakeout had been announced for HYROX Birmingham. The confirmed extras are the Thunderdome spectator area and the separate Youngstars race. Watch HYROX UK's official channels for news. It's also Halloween weekend, so expect busy city-centre nights on Saturday.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Santai Spa (Resorts World):** The spa at Resorts World has a pool, a sauna, an outdoor hot tub and spa treatments, with bookable spa days.

**Things to do:**

- Catch the Halloween event at **Cadbury World** in Bournville, which runs until 1 November. Book online in advance.
- Walk the towpaths around **Gas Street Basin** and Brindleyplace, the heart of Birmingham's canal network.
- Browse the outlets, including Nike and The North Face, or catch an IMAX film at the Cineworld at **Resorts World**, right next to the NEC.

### Local insights

- **The clocks go back before you race:** The UK switches from British Summer Time to GMT on Sunday 25 October 2026. Evenings get dark early, so run in daylight or wear something visible.
- **Birmingham's own dish:** The balti was developed in Birmingham, and the Balti Triangle covers Sparkhill, Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath. A balti with naan or rice is the local pre-race carb load.
- **Tap your card on the bus:** National Express West Midlands buses let you tap a contactless card or phone and cap your fares. Other operators don't cap yet. For trains, buy a ticket before you board.
- **Sunday shopping hours:** Large shops in England can only open for six hours on a Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Small convenience stores, pharmacies and airport and station shops aren't restricted.
- **Drink the tap water:** Tap water in England is regulated by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and safe to drink.
- **Check the bill before you tip:** Many restaurants add a discretionary 12.5% service charge. If it's there, you don't need to tip again. If it isn't, about 10% is normal for table service, and counter service doesn't expect a tip.
- **Taxis at the NEC:** TOA Taxis waits at ranks outside the main entrances, but it adds 10% plus VAT when you pay by card. Veezu, the official private-hire partner, books by app.
- **Late October weather:** Expect highs around 13°C (55°F) and lows around 7°C (45°F), and rain on about half of October's days. Pack a waterproof.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Digital copies and photos aren't accepted. You can only check in on your race day, and nobody can check in for you.
- **Arrive early.** On-site registration for each division opens 90 minutes before its first start wave.
- **Take the train if you can.** Birmingham International is a short walk from the halls. If you drive, pre-book parking before midnight the day before to save £5. Payment on site is cashless only.
- **Get spectator tickets for your supporters.** Spectators watch from the Thunderdome. To get in before their official window, they can go to the Spectators Desk with their ticket and ID.
- **Eat on site.** The NEC has a Wetherspoons, a Cornish Bakery, Starbucks and Subway, with more at Resorts World.
