## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

BYD HYROX Auckland runs over four days in early February, at the height of the Kiwi summer, at Auckland Showgrounds in Epsom. The venue sits next to Cornwall Park and the volcanic cone of Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, so your shakeout run starts a few minutes from the start line. Saturday 6 February is Waitangi Day, New Zealand's national day, so check opening hours before you plan meals.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 4 February to Sunday 7 February 2027
- **Venue:** Auckland Showgrounds
- **Address:** 217 Green Lane West, Epsom, Auckland 1051
- **Nearest public transport:** Greenlane train station on the South City Line, about 17 to 21 minutes' walk according to Auckland Transport. Bus stop 8067, outside Greenlane Clinical Centre, is just across the road.
- **Divisions:** HYROX Open, Pro and Adaptive singles; Open Doubles (men, women and mixed); Pro Doubles (men and women); and Relays (men, women and mixed)

### Getting to the venue

**From Auckland Airport:** Take the AirportLink bus from stop A at the international terminal or stop B at the domestic terminal. It runs every 10 minutes from 4:30am to 12:40am and takes about 20 minutes to Puhinui Station, where you change to a South City Line train north to Greenlane. Cash isn't accepted on AT buses, so tap a contactless card or phone.

**From the city centre:** South City Line trains run from Waitematā Station to Greenlane every 10 to 20 minutes and take about 15 minutes. From Greenlane, walk, or walk about 6 minutes to stop 8069 at Greenlane Presbyterian Church and take bus 650 or 321 to stop 8067.

**By car:** Alexandra Park, next door, sells event parking for $10 a day. Enter from Campbell Crescent off Manukau Road, or through Gate B or Gate D on Green Lane West. Free street parking, including on Puriri Drive, is limited.

### Where to stay

Ellerslie and Greenlane put you closest to the venue and the train line. Newmarket is a bit further but has more shops, gyms and restaurants.

- **Novotel Auckland Ellerslie (Ellerslie):** On Green Lane East beside Ellerslie Racecourse, with an on-site gym and a short walk to the train.
- **ibis Auckland Ellerslie (Ellerslie):** The budget option in the same area, which Auckland's tourism board rates as handy for the venue.
- **Edit Auckland Greenlane (Greenlane):** Another tourism-board pick for getting to and from Showgrounds events.
- **Ramada Newmarket (Newmarket):** Close to Newmarket's restaurants and shops, and within easy reach of the venue.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **The Y Auckland City (Auckland CBD):** On the corner of Pitt Street and Greys Avenue. Its own website announced in 2025 that it had become an official HYROX Training Club, and it has a dedicated HYROX studio. Casual classes cost $16.50 and can't be booked, so arrive early; no gym-floor day pass is listed.
- **Les Mills Newmarket (Newmarket):** At 269 Khyber Pass Road, with a Functional Training Studio that includes CEREMONY HYROX. Its free pass is for New Zealand residents and no visitor pass is listed, so call ahead.
- **CityFitness Newmarket (Newmarket):** On Level 4 of Westfield Newmarket. Anyone 18 or older can train for the day for $20 during staffed hours, which are 8am to 4pm at weekends and on public holidays. Its website doesn't list sleds or SkiErgs.

### Where locals run

- **Cornwall Park (Epsom):** About 172 ha of paddocks, heritage trees and walking paths right next to the Showgrounds. Gates are open from 7am to 8pm, and a free 5 km parkrun starts from the Band Rotunda every Saturday at 8am.
- **Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill (Epsom):** A 182 m volcanic peak inside the park. The summit road has been closed to most vehicles since 2019, so it makes a good hill rep with city views from the obelisk.
- **Maungawhau / Mount Eden (Mount Eden):** A 196 m cone with a boardwalk around the crater rim. It's steep, so treat it as a walk the day before you race.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Joe's Garage Alexandra Park (Epsom):** At 223B Green Lane West, next door to the venue. Order pikelets, small Kiwi pancakes served with jam and cream or with bacon, maple syrup and banana, for easy race-morning carbs, or two eggs on toast.
- **KK Malaysian Cuisine (Epsom):** A long-standing local favorite. Rendang, laksa and mee goreng make a solid carb load the night before.
- **Salt Mango Tree (Epsom):** Kerala cooking close to the Showgrounds, good for a rice-heavy dinner.
- **One Tree Grill (Epsom):** At 9 Pah Road, a smarter spot for a post-race celebration dinner, with dishes such as lamb rack and Bluff oysters. It's open for dinner Monday to Saturday and closed on Sunday, so book.
- **Cornwall Park Cafe (Epsom):** Dine in or take away inside the park after a shakeout run.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for BYD HYROX Auckland. Watch https://hyrox.com/ and HYROX's social channels for news.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **The Olympic Pools & Fitness Centre (Newmarket):** At 77 Broadway, with a heated 50 m pool, a 39.5°C (103°F) spa, a sauna and a steam room, all included in an $11 adult casual swim for anyone 16 or older.

**Things to do:**

- Walk up **Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill** to the obelisk over Sir John Logan Campbell's grave.
- Book a planetarium show at **Stardome Observatory**, in the One Tree Hill Domain.
- Walk the crater rim at **Maungawhau / Mount Eden**, then learn the mountain's history at the Te Ipu Kōrero o Maungawhau visitor center.
- Visit **Auckland Museum** in the Domain, then the heritage glasshouses of the **Domain Wintergardens**.

### Local insights

- **Tap on, tap off:** Pay on Auckland's buses, trains and ferries by tapping a contactless card, phone or watch at the standard adult fare. Use the same card or device to tag on and off, and separate your cards so the reader doesn't pick the wrong one.
- **Waitangi Day:** It falls on Saturday 6 February in 2027, and for many workers the holiday moves to Monday 8 February. It isn't a restricted trading day, so shops can open, but check hours. Cornwall Park Bistro doesn't open on public holidays.
- **Back-to-back long weekends:** Auckland Anniversary Day is Monday 1 February, the week before race weekend, so book your accommodation early.
- **Summer weather:** February averages highs of about 24°C (76°F) and lows of 17°C (62°F), with around 6 or 7 rainy days and over 200 hours of sunshine. The sea is at its warmest, around 21°C (70°F).
- **No tipping:** Tipping isn't customary in New Zealand.
- **Park manners:** Cornwall Park is a working farm. Keep dogs on a lead, don't approach the animals, and remember the gates lock at 8pm.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring photo ID.** You must check yourself in, because checking in on behalf of others isn't allowed. Registration times and locations are still to be confirmed.
- **Know your wristband rules.** It only works on your race day, but you can enter early through spectator check-in with your athlete QR code.
- **Check your start time.** Start times come out about three days before the event and can't be changed. The last wave goes off around 8:20pm.
- **Buy spectator tickets.** Friends need their own spectator ticket, and so do you on any day you aren't racing.
- **Park next door.** If you drive, use Alexandra Park. Disabled parking is at the Showgrounds' Gate 3.
