## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

BYD HYROX Osaka runs over five days at INTEX Osaka, a big exhibition center on the reclaimed Nanko waterfront in Osaka Bay. Racing goes from Thursday to Monday, so check which day your division is on before you book flights. The one thing to know: on busy days, get off the subway at Cosmosquare and walk rather than squeezing onto the New Tram.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 21 January to Monday 25 January 2027
- **Venue:** INTEX Osaka
- **Address:** 1-5-102 Nanko-kita, Suminoe-ku, Osaka 559-0034, Japan
- **Nearest public transport:** Nakafuto on the New Tram (Nanko Port Town Line), about 5 minutes' walk. Trade Center-mae (New Tram) is about 8 minutes away, and Cosmosquare (Chuo Line and New Tram) about 9 minutes.
- **Divisions:** Open, Pro and Adaptive singles (men and women); Open, Pro and Mixed Doubles; Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays

### Getting to the venue

**From Kansai International Airport (KIX):** The simplest option is the airport limousine bus toward Nanko, Tenpozan and Universal Studios Japan, from Bus Stop 3 at Terminal 1 or Bus Stop 7 at Terminal 2. Get off at Grand Prince Hotel Osaka Bay, about a minute's walk from INTEX. INTEX lists the trip at about 50 minutes and ¥1,800. By train, take the JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service to Bentencho, the Chuo Line to Cosmosquare and the New Tram to Nakafuto, about 1 hour 30 minutes for ¥1,450.

**From Shin-Osaka (shinkansen):** Take the Midosuji Line to Honmachi, change to the Chuo Line to Cosmosquare, then ride the New Tram to Nakafuto. It takes about 45 minutes and costs ¥340.

**From Umeda or Namba:** Use the same Midosuji, Chuo Line and New Tram route via Honmachi, about 40 minutes for ¥290. From Namba you can also take the Yotsubashi Line to Suminoekoen and the New Tram north to Nakafuto.

### Where to stay

Stay in Nanko-kita if you want to walk to the venue. Osaka Port (Osakako) is two Chuo Line stops away, next to the aquarium. Namba has the food, the nightlife and a direct train from KIX, about 40 minutes from the venue.

- **Grand Prince Hotel Osaka Bay:** This is the former Hyatt Regency Osaka, and the KIX limousine bus stops at its door, about a minute's walk from INTEX. It has a spa club with a gym and an indoor pool.
- **Hotel Fukuracia Osaka-Bay:** A mid-range hotel in Nanko-kita. Booking listings put it roughly 12 to 13 minutes on foot from Nakafuto station, and they list a fitness center.
- **Hotel Seagull Tempozan Osaka:** About 5 minutes' walk from Osakako station on the Chuo Line, two stops from Cosmosquare. The Kaiyukan aquarium is next door.
- **Swissôtel Nankai Osaka:** Sits directly above Nankai Namba station, with trains straight to KIX. It has a gym, pool and Japanese bath. The lobby is being renovated from August 2026 to March 2027.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **CrossFit Hommachi (Honmachi):** Run by A Plus Fitness, it's the group's only location that runs HYROX classes, with early-morning and evening slots. Non-members can buy drop-in passes from ¥4,400 a day. The site doesn't list sleds or SkiErgs, so ask on LINE before you go. It.s near Honmachi station, on the Chuo Line to the venue.
- **ReXeR Honmachi (Honmachi):** In July 2026 it opened a 24-hour functional area set up for all eight HYROX stations, including SkiErg, sled push and pull, rowing and wall balls. It's members-only, and no day pass is listed, so contact them about a trial first.
- **City Country Club Spa at Grand Prince Hotel Osaka Bay (Nanko-kita):** The hotel's gym and indoor pool are the most convenient option for a light session near the venue. Check fees and access with the hotel.

### Where locals run

- **Osaka Castle Park (Chuo-ku):** The moat loops measure 3.5 km and 2.9 km, with 1 km markers. Take the Chuo Line straight from Cosmosquare to Tanimachi 4-chome or Morinomiya.
- **Nakanoshima riverside (Kita-ku):** A flat loop of about 6.3 km along the rivers around Nakanoshima island, with few traffic lights. It's an easy option if you're staying near Umeda.
- **Nagai Park (Higashisumiyoshi-ku):** A 2.8 km loop beside Nagai Stadium, near Nagai station on the Midosuji Line. The Running Station at the Nagai training center has lockers and showers, open Tuesday to Saturday.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Dotonbori Imai Honten (Dotonbori):** This udon house has been open since the 1940s. Order the kitsune udon, which comes in light dashi broth with sweet fried tofu. It's an easy carb meal the night before.
- **Usami-tei Matsubaya (Minami-Senba):** An old-school udon shop between Honmachi and Shinsaibashi, known for its kitsune udon. It's handy if you're training at a Honmachi gym.
- **Sukiya at ATC (Nanko-kita):** A beef-bowl chain inside the Asia and Pacific Trade Center next to Trade Center-mae station. A gyudon rice bowl is quick fuel close to the venue.
- **Okonomiyaki Mizuno (Dotonbori):** It has been around since 1945 and has a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Its yam-based okonomiyaki makes a good post-race reward. Go at 11:00 opening to beat the queue.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo, community run or Youngstars race had been announced for HYROX Osaka. The event page lists only the racing schedule, with ceremony times still to be confirmed. Watch https://hyrox.com/ and HYROX Japan's channels closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Spa World (Shinsekai):** A huge bathhouse near Dobutsuen-mae station, with European and Asian bath zones that switch between men and women each month. It doesn't admit anyone with tattoos, and covering them up isn't allowed either.
- **City Country Club Spa (Nanko-kita):** The Grand Prince's spa and indoor pool are steps from INTEX.

**Things to do:**

- See the whale shark at **Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan**, 5 minutes from Osakako station. It closes two days in January, so check the calendar.
- Walk the moat at **Osaka Castle** on a recovery day.
- Eat your way along **Dotonbori** after dark, when the canal signs are lit.

### Local insights

- **Tap your bank card on the subway:** Osaka Metro, Nankai, Hankyu, Hanshin and Kintetsu accept contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB and Amex at the gates, and Osaka Metro caps fares for the day. JR West doesn't, so you can't tap a card on the airport rapid train or the Loop Line. Tap in and out with the same card or phone.
- **Get an ICOCA as a backup:** JR West's IC card costs a ¥500 refundable deposit plus credit. It works on almost all trains and buses and at convenience stores. Only JR West can refund it, minus a ¥220 fee.
- **Eat udon, not okonomiyaki, the night before:** Kitsune udon is an Osaka specialty and light on the stomach. Save okonomiyaki and kushikatsu for after the race.
- **Shop at ATC before you race:** The Asia and Pacific Trade Center next to the venue has two FamilyMarts, a Lawson and an Orange Drug pharmacy for water, snacks and basics.
- **Download GO and DiDi:** Both dispatch licensed metered taxis in Osaka and take foreign cards. Uber works too.
- **Don't tip:** Tipping isn't customary in Japanese restaurants, and staff may chase you to return the money.
- **Know the bath rules:** Rinse off before getting in, keep your small towel out of the water, and don't swim or put your head under. Check tattoo rules before you go, since many baths, Spa World included, refuse entry.
- **January is cold but dry:** Average highs are about 9.7°C (49.5°F) and lows about 3°C (37°F), with only about six wet days in the month.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Get off at Cosmosquare.** INTEX warns that Nakafuto gets extremely crowded during events. On the Chuo Line, get off at Cosmosquare and walk about 9 minutes.
- **Bring ID.** You need ID to check in, and nobody can check in on your behalf.
- **Only race day counts.** Your athlete wristband gets you in only on your own race day. On race day you can enter early through spectator check-in with your athlete QR code. Friends need spectator tickets, and the Flex Add-On isn't available for spectators.
- **Watch for your start time.** Individual start times come out about three days before. Waves run until about 20:00, so plan your trip back if you're in a late heat.
- **Dress for the walk.** Bring a warm layer and dry clothes for the walk between the station and the hall.
