## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Cairo is the first HYROX race in North Africa, held in Hall 4 of the Egypt International Exhibition Center on the city's east side, about 18 km from the airport. The one thing to know: men race Saturday, women race Sunday, and Cairo traffic is the wildcard, so stay on the east side and leave more time than the map suggests.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Saturday 14 November to Sunday 15 November 2026
- **Venue:** Egypt International Exhibition Center (Hall 4)
- **Address:** Egypt's International Exhibition Center Hall 4, El-Moshir Tantawy Axis, Al Hay Al Asher, Nasr City, Cairo Governorate 4440510, Egypt
- **Nearest public transport:** Cairo Metro Line 3 to Abbasiya or Fairgrounds station, then a taxi or local bus toward the El-Moshir Tantawy Axis. There is no station within walking distance.
- **Divisions:** Open (singles), Pro (singles), Doubles, Pro Doubles, Relay and Adaptive. Saturday is Men, Adaptive Men, Pro singles and Mixed Doubles; Sunday is Women, Adaptive Women, the remaining Doubles, Pro Doubles and all three Relays.

### Getting to the venue

**From Cairo International Airport (CAI):** The venue is about 18 km away by road, a drive of roughly 20–25 minutes when traffic is light. Public transport from the airport isn't practical, so take an official taxi or book Uber or Careem, both of which operate in Cairo.

**From Downtown Cairo and Zamalek:** Ride Metro Line 3 to Abbasiya or Fairgrounds, then finish by taxi or ride-hail. A door-to-door Uber or Careem is simpler.

**By car:** The venue has direct road access from the El-Moshir Tantawy Axis and sits close to El-Nasr Road and the Ring Road. HYROX hasn't published parking details.

### Where to stay

Base yourself on the east side. New Cairo and the Fifth Settlement, just southeast of the venue, have the closest hotels and plenty of restaurants. Nasr City and the Citystars complex are a little farther but sit between the venue and the airport.

- **Triumph Luxury Hotel:** On the edge of the Fifth Settlement, about 2 km from the venue, with pools and a spa for the day after.
- **Ramage Hotel and Resort:** Roughly 2 km from the exhibition center, so a short taxi ride on race morning.
- **Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski Cairo:** In First Settlement, New Cairo, about 7 minutes' drive from the venue and 15 minutes from the airport.
- **InterContinental Cairo Citystars:** In Nasr City, connected to the Citystars mall, with six restaurants and the LifeStyles spa, about 8 km from the venue.
- **Staybridge Suites Cairo Citystars:** An apartment-style option in the same complex, useful if you want a kitchen to make your own pre-race breakfast.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **F45 Training O1 Mall (East Cairo):** Circuit-style classes mixing strength and cardio. Drop-in classes are paid in credits, from about EGP 550 per class. It isn't a HYROX Training Club.
- **The Mind Space (New Cairo):** Offers functional training classes alongside yoga and Pilates, with walk-in sessions around EGP 350.
- **Revolt Fitness Mar.V Mall (East Cairo):** Sells a day pass for about EGP 500, though its classes lean toward boxing, Muay Thai and gymnastics rather than HYROX kit.
- **Gold's Gym Fifth Settlement (New Cairo):** A big two-floor gym with a mixed floor and a women-only floor. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed, so call ahead.

### Where locals run

- **Child Park (Nasr City):** The best running spot in dense Nasr City, off Makram Ebeid Street. Its paths make a flat loop of about 1–1.5 km, ideal for an easy shakeout close to the venue.
- **International Garden (Nasr City):** About 2 km from Child Park, with roughly 1 km of paths inside. Link the two for a longer easy run.
- **Al-Azhar Park (Historic Cairo):** About 30 hectares of landscaped hills beside the Citadel, with walkways and city views. Take a taxi and combine it with sightseeing.
- **Zamalek and the Nile (Zamalek):** Locals run 4 km or more along the river on Gezira Island, a good option if you stay downtown.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Zooba (Nasr City):** Modern Egyptian street food on the fourth floor of Citystars. Order ful and ta'ameya for breakfast, or a bowl of koshary for a carb load.
- **Koshary Abou Tarek (Downtown):** The famous koshary hall on Champollion Street near Tahrir Square. Koshary is rice, lentils, pasta and fried onions with tomato sauce, a cheap and very effective race fuel.
- **Abou El Sid (Zamalek):** Classic Egyptian dishes in a characterful setting. The cream-baked rice called muammar is a good carb-heavy dinner the night before.
- **Bahary Fish Restaurant (New Cairo):** A well-rated seafood spot near the venue. Grilled fish with rice is a light, protein-rich refuel after the race.
- **Kasr El Kababgi (New Cairo):** Egyptian grills close to the Fifth Settlement hotels. Kofta and kebab with rice and bread make a solid recovery meal.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for HYROX Cairo. On site, HYROX lists only the HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners. Watch HYROX's official channels for updates closer to race weekend.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **LifeStyles Spa (Nasr City):** The spa at the InterContinental Cairo Citystars has a sauna, steam room and hot tub, plus deep-tissue and sports-style massages.

**Things to do:**

- Visit the **Grand Egyptian Museum**, which opened in November 2025 about 2 km from the **Pyramids of Giza** and shows Tutankhamun's full collection. Book tickets online and see both in one day.
- Walk off sore legs in **Al-Azhar Park**, then head to the nearby **Khan el-Khalili** bazaar for cafés and shopping.

### Local insights

- **Sort your visa before you fly:** Many nationalities, including British visitors, need one. The UK government says the visa on arrival costs US$30 cash, or US$36 by card for Cairo airport's digital version, and you can apply ahead at visa2egypt.gov.eg.
- **Use Uber or Careem:** Both work in Cairo, and Uber can also book local taxis. Careem accepts cash if your foreign card is rejected.
- **Carry small notes:** Smaller restaurants and street-food stalls take cash only, and change can be scarce. You can bring at most EGP 5,000 into Egypt, so withdraw pounds locally.
- **Tip in cash:** Even with a service charge on the bill, leave a little extra in cash, from a few pounds at a koshary counter to around 10% somewhere smarter.
- **Run early, or on Friday:** Air quality and traffic worsen as the day goes on, and Friday mornings are calmest. Women runners are advised to wear leggings rather than short shorts.
- **Expect mild weather:** Mid-November highs are usually about 25°C (77°F), falling to around 15°C (59°F) at night, so pack a layer for early starts.
- **Be careful with water and food:** The US CDC recommends safe food and water habits and hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines for most travelers. Most visitors stick to bottled water.
- **Mind your camera and stay informed:** Photographing military sites is illegal, and don't photograph officials or children. Read the UK FCDO or US State Department advice before you go; Cairo isn't among the areas they advise against. The tourist police number is 126.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Know your day.** Check the schedule before booking flights. Start times arrive about three days before the event and can't be changed.
- **Bring photo ID.** Check-in opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave. You can only check in on your race day, and you can't check in for anyone else.
- **Leave a big buffer for traffic.** Cairo traffic is unpredictable, so book your ride early on race morning.
- **Plan for security.** Everyone passes a security checkpoint. Spectators need a ticket and ID, and large strollers aren't allowed; compact folding ones are fine.
- **Stay for the late finish.** On Sunday the relays run until about 20:30, with ceremonies late into the evening.
