## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Cancun returns for its second edition on the Malecón Tajamar, the palm-lined lagoon promenade between downtown and the Hotel Zone. The 2026 debut was outdoors, and local press reported more than 10,000 athletes from 16 countries plus over 35,000 spectators. The thing to know is that this race runs in the open air of a Caribbean winter, so the schedule pauses at midday for heat.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Friday 19 to Sunday 21 February 2027
- **Venue:** Malecón Tajamar (outdoor)
- **Address:** Av. Rambla Fonatur, Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico
- **Nearest public transport:** Bus R-27 to Plaza Las Américas, which sits a few meters from the Malecón Tajamar
- **Divisions:** Open and Pro singles; Doubles; Pro Doubles; Men's, Women's and Mixed Relay; and Adaptive
- **Schedule:** The provisional schedule also lists waves on Thursday 18 February and stops racing from about 10:30 to 15:00 each day. HYROX publishes individual start times about three days before the event, and they can't be changed.
- **Also on site:** A HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners, age-group award ceremonies and World Championship qualification slots

### Getting to the venue

**From Cancún International Airport (CUN):** The venue is about 20 km away. ADO buses run roughly hourly to the downtown ADO station (the kiosk is outside arrivals), then it's a short taxi ride. Official airport taxis and shuttles also run, and Canada's travel advice suggests prepaying inside the terminal to pay by card.

**From the Hotel Zone:** Buses cost 12 pesos, cash to the driver. R-27 goes to Plaza Las Américas, the closest stop. R-1 and R-2 head downtown. Hotel Zone routes run 24 hours, thinning after midnight.

**By taxi or app:** Cancún taxis have no meters, so agree on a peso fare before you get in. Uber and DiDi both work in the city and the Hotel Zone.

### Where to stay

Pick one of three bases. **Around Plaza Las Américas**, you can walk to the start line and the mall has a supermarket. **Puerto Cancún** is a quiet marina district at the start of the Hotel Zone. **The Hotel Zone** puts you on the beach, but you'll need a bus or taxi to the venue.

- **Fiesta Inn Cancún Las Américas:** It's inside Plaza Las Américas on Avenida Bonampak and has a rooftop gym. It's the closest bed to the venue.
- **Krystal Urban Cancún:** It's behind the old bullring, across Bonampak from Plaza Las Américas, and runs a free shuttle to its beachfront sister hotel.
- **Hotel Bonampak:** It's a well-reviewed, good-value downtown option that Hotels.com puts about 1 km (0.6 mi) from the Malecón Tajamar.
- **Renaissance Cancún Resort & Marina:** It anchors the Puerto Cancún marina near the start of the Hotel Zone, which Hotels.com puts about 1.8 km (1.1 mi) from the Malecón Tajamar.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **MVMT Performance Training Studio (Centro):** It's on Avenida Tulum and is listed as an official HYROX affiliate. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed, so message them first.
- **Brava Body Dynamics (Puerto Cancún):** It runs HYROX classes on PRVN programming and is listed with drop-in booking.
- **Hustle Fitness (Huayacán):** It's a hybrid strength and conditioning studio that books trial classes online. It doesn't sell a published day pass.

### Where locals run

- **Malecón Tajamar (Centro):** The venue itself is a flat, palm-lined promenade with lagoon views. A full loop is about 5 km, and local 5K and 10K races start here.
- **Kukulcán ciclopista (Zona Hotelera):** A red paved path runs on the ocean side of the boulevard for about 10 to 11 km from around km 10 back to km 0. Run one way and catch an R-1 or R-2 bus back.
- **Parque Kabah (Centro):** It's a shaded park about 1.5 km from the Malecón area with roughly 2.5 km of running paths.
- **Playa Forum to Playa Delfines (Zona Hotelera):** About 9 km of wide, public beach, best run on the packed sand near the water.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **El Paisano del 23 (Mercado 23):** Order the torta de pierna, a roast pork sandwich that makes a solid carb-and-protein lunch the day before.
- **Mercado 28 (Centro):** Stalls here serve Yucatecan comfort food such as salbutes. **El Cejas** is the place for seafood tostadas after the race.
- **Tacos Rigo (Zona Hotelera):** It's at Plaza Parián around km 8.5 and is popular for al pastor and arrachera tacos.
- **La Habichuela (Centro):** It's a long-running downtown seafood restaurant on Calle Margaritas, open daily. Book it for a post-race ceviche and Yucatecan-style dinner.
- **Parque de las Palapas (Centro):** In the evening, vendors sell street corn, crepes and Yucatecan snacks, which make a cheap, easy carb top-up.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, community run or shakeout had been announced for HYROX Cancun 2027. The event page does promise a HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners at the venue. Watch HYROX Mexico's channels and local gyms closer to February.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Playa Langosta (Zona Hotelera):** It's a calm, bay-facing beach at km 5 with restrooms and a bus stop out front, good for a gentle float in sea water around 26°C (79°F).
- **Le Blanc Spa Resort (Zona Hotelera):** It's an adults-only resort that sells day passes with pool and beach access.

**Things to do:**

- Take the ferry from **Puerto Juárez** to **Isla Mujeres**. Boats leave about every half hour, and the crossing takes roughly 30 minutes.
- Walk the **Malecón Tajamar** again at sunset, when the lagoon views of the Hotel Zone are at their best.
- Spend an evening at **Parque de las Palapas**, Cancún's cultural hub with free concerts and dance.

### Local insights

- **Uber works, the airport is contested:** Uber and DiDi are legal in Quintana Roo since a 2023 mobility law, and DiDi often prices lower. Federal authorities say airport pickups aren't authorized, so take ADO or an official taxi on arrival.
- **Haggle taxis in pesos:** Taxis have no meters. Check the app price, agree a peso fare first and refuse dollar quotes, which are tourist rates. Taxi drivers generally don't expect tips.
- **Carry coins:** Buses are cash only, drivers rarely have change for big notes and they don't take US coins. Keep 10- and 12-peso fares handy.
- **Guard your card:** Card and ATM fraud is common. Use ATMs inside banks or shops, and pay taxis in cash with small bills.
- **Drink bottled water:** Canada's travel advice says to stick to sealed or bottled water and be wary of produce washed in tap water.
- **February means nortes:** Expect highs near 29°C (85°F) and lows near 20°C (67°F). Cold fronts called nortes bring a few days of strong north wind and grey skies between December and February.
- **Sargassum is usually quiet:** February sits in the clear-water window. Seaweed season runs April to October, though early arrivals can happen in heavy years.
- **Eat like a Yucatecan:** Cochinita pibil is pork marinated in bitter orange and achiote and slow-roasted in banana leaves. It's served with corn tortillas and pickled onions, and the markets are the cheap place to find it.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Know your heat window.** Morning waves start at 6:30, and racing resumes around 15:00 after the midday break. Fuel for your slot.
- **Bring ID and come on your day.** Check-in is only possible on the day you race, and you can't check in for someone else.
- **Get spectators their own tickets.** They're sold separately. Early entry is via the Spectators Desk with a ticket and ID.
- **Pack sunscreen and a layer.** The venue is open-air, so bring sun protection and a layer for a breezy norte evening.
- **Use the aid stations.** The event page lists aid stations before, during and after the race. Still bring your own electrolytes for the warm-up.
