## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

Creapure HYROX Chicago brings five days of racing to Navy Pier, stretching out into Lake Michigan just east of downtown. February in Chicago is properly cold, so a bit of planning goes a long way: base yourself close to the pier, keep transfers short, and pack for the wind off the lake. Here's how to get there, where to stay, train and refuel, and how to recover once you've crossed the line.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 11 February to Monday 15 February 2027
- **Venue:** Navy Pier
- **Address:** 600 E Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60611
- **Nearest public transport:** CTA buses stop at the pier, including the #29 State, #65 Grand, #66 Chicago and #124 Navy Pier Express. The nearest 'L' stations are a bus ride or a long walk away (Grand on the Red Line, State/Lake in the Loop).
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro and Pro Doubles, and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays
- **Also on site:** The HYROX Entertainment Zone with event partners, plus the Thunderdome spectator area

### Getting to the venue

**From O'Hare (ORD):** Take the CTA Blue Line toward downtown to Grand, then transfer to the eastbound #65 Grand bus, which runs to Navy Pier. A taxi or rideshare is simpler if you have heavy bags.

**From Midway (MDW):** Take the CTA Orange Line downtown to the Loop, then transfer to the #29 State bus, which runs up State Street to the pier.

**From downtown:** The #29 State bus runs north through the Loop and east along Illinois Street to the pier. The #66 Chicago bus connects with the Red, Brown and Blue Lines. If you're arriving by Metra, the #124 Navy Pier Express links the pier with Union Station and Ogilvie. Check current routes in the Ventra app or on transitchicago.com.

### Where to stay

**Streeterville:** The neighborhood around the pier. It's the best choice for walking to your heat and back.

**River North:** Packed with restaurants and gyms, a short bus ride or brisk walk west of the pier.

**The Loop and Riverwalk:** Central, well served by the 'L', and a walk or quick bus ride to the pier.

Hotels to look at:

- **Sable at Navy Pier:** Right on the pier at 900 E Grand Ave, so it's a short walk to the venue.
- **Loews Chicago Hotel:** On North Park Drive in Streeterville, roughly a mile's walk from the pier.
- **Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk:** On the river at North Water Street. Travel listings put the walk to Navy Pier at about 12 to 20 minutes.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Chicago Athletic Clubs (several neighborhoods, including West Loop and Lincoln Park):** A local gym guide lists it as an accredited HYROX Training Club, with HYROX coaching and group classes. Ask your nearest club about guest access.
- **GND Strength Society (West Loop):** Listed as an officially affiliated HYROX gym, with HYROX training alongside strength work and real sleds.
- **MagMile CrossFit (River North):** A short ride from the pier on East Illinois Street. Time Out notes that it offers drop-in options by the day or week.
- **Life Time River North (River North):** A large downtown club that sells day passes, which include classes, the workout floor, the pool and the sauna.

### Where locals run

- **Lakefront Trail (Streeterville):** This 18.5-mile (29.8 km) path follows Lake Michigan, with separate lanes for walkers and cyclists along much of it. The Navy Pier Flyover has an exit for the pier, so you can join it from the venue. Access is limited in winter, so watch for ice and snow.
- **Chicago Riverwalk (The Loop):** It runs along the south bank of the Chicago River, from the Outer Drive Bridge at the lake west to Lake Street. It's the easy option if you're staying at the Sheraton or in the Loop.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Yolk Streeterville:** On East Ohio at Grand and McClurg, a short walk from the pier. Good for a big breakfast of eggs, pancakes or French toast before an afternoon heat.
- **Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe (Water Tower Place, Streeterville):** A popular breakfast spot near Michigan Avenue with plenty of carb-heavy options.
- **Eataly Chicago (River North):** An Italian marketplace and restaurants on East Ohio Street. An easy choice for a pasta dinner the night before.
- **Lou Malnati's (River North):** The Wells Street location of the classic Chicago deep-dish pizzeria, best saved for a post-race meal.

### Race weekend events and parties

The confirmed extras are the HYROX Entertainment Zone and the Thunderdome viewing area, plus age-group award ceremonies after each division finishes. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Check HYROX's official channels and Chicago run clubs closer to the date.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Eastend (Fulton Market):** A large Finnish-style sauna with cold plunges, offered as contrast-therapy sessions.
- **Life Time River North:** The day pass includes the sauna, steam room and indoor pool.

**Things to do:**

- See the **Art Institute of Chicago**, then walk through **Millennium Park** to see Cloud Gate.
- Go up **Skydeck Chicago** at Willis Tower for views over the lake and city.
- Visit the **Field Museum** or **Shedd Aquarium** on the Museum Campus.
- Walk the **Chicago Riverwalk** and the **Magnificent Mile**, dressed for the cold.

### Local insights

- **Tap your card:** You don't need a Ventra card. Tap a contactless bank card or phone to ride: $2.50 on the 'L' and $2.25 on buses, with up to two transfers within two hours.
- **Beat the O'Hare surcharge:** Boarding the Blue Line at O'Hare costs $5. A $5 1-Day CTA/Pace pass on a Ventra account covers the O'Hare boarding at no extra charge, plus all your bus rides to the pier that day.
- **Budget for tax and tip:** Downtown restaurant bills carry about 11.75% tax on food, and the usual tip at a sit-down meal is 20% of the pre-tax total. Check the receipt first, since many places add an automatic gratuity for groups of six or more.
- **Real February cold:** O'Hare's February normals are a high of about 2°C (36°F) and a low of about -6°C (22°F), with around 27 cm (10.7 in) of snow over the month. The lakefront usually runs a little milder than the suburbs, but the wind makes up for it.
- **Holiday weekend:** Valentine's Day falls on Sunday 14 February and Presidents' Day on Monday 15 February 2027, so book any celebration dinner early.
- **Stay underground:** If you're based in the Loop, the Pedway links stations, hotels and office towers through more than 40 blocks of tunnels and concourses. Some sections only open during working hours.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Dress for the walk, not the race.** Mid-February in Chicago is usually freezing, and the wind off Lake Michigan makes the pier feel colder still. Wear a warm coat, hat and gloves to the venue, and pack dry layers for afterward.
- **Allow extra time.** Navy Pier is a long pier and buses can be slow in winter weather. Give yourself a buffer for check-in and bag drop. HYROX says individual start times are posted about three days before the event.
- **Bring ID.** Spectators arriving before their check-in window go through Spectator Check-In with a ticket and ID.
- **Spectator tickets:** Spectators need their own tickets, and they can't be changed or refunded unless a Flex Add-On was bought at checkout.
- **Photos:** HYROX's photo partner Sportograf offers selfie search to find your race pictures.
