## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Dublin takes over the RDS in leafy Ballsbridge for five days in mid-November, a short DART hop south of the city centre. Expect cool, damp weather and a neighbourhood where you can walk from hotel to start line. The one thing to know: Ireland play Fiji at the Aviva Stadium down the road on Saturday 14 November, so book early and expect crowds.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 November 2026
- **Venue:** Royal Dublin Society (RDS), Ballsbridge
- **Address:** Royal Dublin Society (RDS), Simmonscourt Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, D04 E6N6
- **Nearest public transport:** Sandymount and Lansdowne Road DART stations, both a short walk away; Dublin Bus routes 4, 7 and 7a stop on Merrion Road
- **Divisions:** Men and Women (Open), Pro Men and Pro Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women and Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men and Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays
- **Also on site:** The HYROX Entertainment Zone with event partners

### Getting to the venue

**From Dublin Airport:** Aircoach route 702 runs via Ballsbridge and, per the RDS, stops on Merrion Road in front of the main entrance. It runs hourly at peak times, so check the timetable. A taxi from the Arrivals rank costs roughly €30 to €40.

**From the city centre:** Take the DART south to Lansdowne Road or Sandymount, both a short walk away. From Sandymount, walk up Sandymount Avenue to the lights by the Clayton Hotel and continue straight onto Simmonscourt Road. Buses 4, 7, 7a, 18 and S2 also serve the RDS.

**From Heuston:** Take the Luas Red Line to Connolly and change to the DART. No Luas line goes to the RDS.

### Where to stay

**Ballsbridge** is the obvious base: walk to the start and shake out in Herbert Park. **Sandymount** next door has a village green, cafés and the sea. For pubs and sightseeing, stay around **Grand Canal Dock** or **Pearse Street** and take the DART.

- **InterContinental Dublin:** It's on Simmonscourt Road, the venue's own street, with a 14 m indoor pool and a spa.
- **Herbert Park Hotel and Park Residence:** About a 3-minute walk to the RDS, overlooking the park, with a 24-hour guest gym.
- **Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge:** It's at the junction you pass walking from Sandymount DART, with a free guest fitness suite.
- **Sandymount Hotel (Ballsbridge):** A family-run 4-star on Herbert Road beside the Aviva Stadium, with a fitness room.
- **Maldron Hotel Pearse Street:** A better-value city option 2.2 km away, about 8 minutes by taxi.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Perpetua Fitness Windmill Lane (Docklands):** Runs HYROX classes alongside CrossFit, and guests can drop in for a class. New members get three classes for €50; no day pass is listed.
- **Everlast Gyms+ Dublin (Henry Street):** Listed as "Partnered with HYROX," with a purpose-built race layout, race-day kit and turf. Open until 22:00 on weekdays. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed, so call ahead.
- **Gym Plus Ballsbridge (Ballsbridge):** The closest gym to the venue, on Shelbourne Road, with functional training and kettlebells. Access is via Wellhub; a day pass isn't confirmed.

### Where locals run

- **Herbert Park (Ballsbridge):** Right beside the RDS, with a duck pond, playing fields and an outdoor gym for easy laps. In November the gates close around 17:30.
- **Sandymount Strand and the Great South Wall (Sandymount):** The classic out-and-back runs from the strand along the Great South Wall to Poolbeg Lighthouse, about 10 km in total. The wall's old stones are uneven, so watch your footing.
- **Phoenix Park (Dublin 8):** At 707 hectares, it's the place for longer runs, but it's across town from Ballsbridge.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Juniors (Beggars Bush):** A small New York and Italian-style café on Bath Avenue, good for a pre-race breakfast from 8:30 on weekdays.
- **The Old Spot (Sandymount):** A buzzy gastropub whose Michelin-praised rib-eye and chips is a solid post-race refuel. Book ahead on rugby Saturday.
- **BuJo (Sandymount):** Flame-grilled Irish-beef burgers on Sandymount Green for an easy post-race dinner.
- **Yoi Ramen (Grand Canal Dock):** Donburi or katsu curry makes a simple carb load the night before.
- **The Brazen Head (Usher's Quay):** It calls itself Ireland's oldest pub. Order the stew, the classic warming Irish carb-load, then stay for the music.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, community run or shakeout had been announced for HYROX Dublin. In 2025 HYROX, Red Bull and Sports Direct hosted a pre-race 5 km shakeout run, so watch HYROX Ireland's official channels. Ireland v Fiji is at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday 14 November.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Hot Box Sauna (Grand Canal Dock):** Three saunas and three plunge pools in Bolands Mills, in 75-minute sessions. Pre-booking is essential.
- **Helios Floating Sauna (Dún Laoghaire):** A wood-fired sauna on the harbour with a sea plunge pool. Book online.

**Things to do:**

- See the **Book of Kells** at Trinity College. Entry is timed, so book online.
- Catch **Ireland v Fiji** at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday 14 November, or in a Ballsbridge pub.
- Spend an evening of Irish music and a pint at **The Brazen Head**, where live sessions run nightly.

### Local insights

- **Get a Leap Card:** Buses, DART and Luas run on the TFI Leap Card, cheaper than cash. Buy a Leap Visitor Card for unlimited travel at Dublin Airport; its clock starts on first use. Bank-card tapping isn't planned network-wide until around 2028.
- **Uber means taxis here:** Uber only books licensed taxis here. FREE NOW is the most-used app and Bolt the cheaper alternative; install two.
- **Rugby Saturday crowds:** With Ireland v Fiji on Saturday 14 November, expect busy trains at Lansdowne Road; use Sandymount or walk.
- **Pack for wet and cold:** November averages highs around 11°C (52°F), lows around 6°C (43°F) and rain on about 12 days. Bring dry clothes for after.
- **Tipping:** About 10% at table service is normal but optional; check for a service charge first.
- **Mind the tide:** The tide on Sandymount Strand changes quickly, so stick to the promenade and wall.
- **Park hours are short in November:** Herbert Park shuts in the early evening, so run in daylight.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Digital copies or photos aren't accepted.
- **Arrive 90 minutes early.** Registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave, on your race day only.
- **Know your day.** Pro Men and Pro Women race on Friday 13 November, Pro Doubles on Saturday 14 November, and all three relays on Friday evening.
- **Get spectator tickets for supporters.** Friends need a spectator ticket; for early entry they show ticket and ID at the Spectators Desk.
- **Leave time on Saturday.** Rugby crowds fill the DART and roads around Lansdowne Road.
