## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Düsseldorf is the first HYROX race at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, home of Fortuna Düsseldorf, and HYROX calls it its first stadium race in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The arena sits in the north of the city, next to the trade fair grounds and close to the airport. Plan around one thing: racing starts on Wednesday 11 November, the day Carnival season opens at 11:11 in front of City Hall.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 November 2026
- **Venue:** Merkur Spiel-Arena
- **Address:** Merkur Spiel-Arena, Arena-Straße 1, 40474 Düsseldorf, Germany
- **Nearest public transport:** Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord, the last stop on the U78, directly south of the stadium. From there it's about 500 to 650 m on foot along Arena-Straße, roughly 8 minutes.
- **Divisions:** Men, Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Men Pro, Women Pro, Doubles Pro (Men, Women), Adaptive (Men, Women) and Relays (Men, Women, Mixed)
- **Also on site:** The POWWOW Sports Festival takes place next door at the Arena-Sportpark on Friday 13 November.

### Getting to the venue

**From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS):** Take the SkyTrain from the terminal to the airport's train station, about 7 minutes. Then take a regional train (RE1, RE5 or RE6, among others) to the Hauptbahnhof and change to the U78. Rheinbahn's U81 links the airport with the trade fair and arena, but only during big events, so check the Rheinbahn app for your day.

**From the Hauptbahnhof:** The U78 leaves from platform 1 on level -1 and runs straight to Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord in about 15 to 20 minutes.

**From the Old Town:** Catch the U78 at Heinrich-Heine-Allee. On foot, it's about 6 km along the Rhine.

### Where to stay

**Stockum** and the **airport** put you closest to the arena. The **Hauptbahnhof** area has the direct U78 and the Japanese quarter's noodle shops, while **Kö-Bogen and the Old Town** are best for brewhouses and the Rhine.

- **Essential by Dorint Düsseldorf Deiker Höfe (Stockum):** About 500 m from the Messe Ost/Stockumer Kirchstraße stop on the U78, and about 4 km from the airport.
- **Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf (Airport):** Linked to Terminal C by a covered footbridge. It has a pool, a sauna and a gym.
- **Motel One Düsseldorf-Hauptbahnhof (Stadtmitte):** Right by the main station, so you can walk to the U78 platform. Rooms are listed from €89.
- **The Cloud One Düsseldorf-Kö Bogen (Stadtmitte):** On Joachim-Erwin-Platz in the Kö-Bogen complex, with the Hofgarten, the Old Town and the Rhine all close by.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Fitness First Düsseldorf Im Lighthouse (Derendorf):** Runs 60-minute HYROX classes that you can try for free without a membership, wellness area included. Day passes aren't listed.
- **Fitness First Düsseldorf In der KÖ-Galerie (Stadtmitte):** On Königsallee, with the same free HYROX trial class.
- **TRU Fitness Club Düsseldorf (Unterbilk):** In the Medienhafen, with a HYROX functional area that has a 25 m turf lane and a sled and HYROX classes, including a beginner class in English. Bookable via Urban Sports Club; a day pass isn't confirmed.
- **ELEVATE GYM (Oberbilk):** The former CrossFit am Rhein, with a HYROX area of sled tracks and competition equipment. Bookable via Urban Sports Club; a drop-in price isn't confirmed.

### Where locals run

- **Rheinpark Golzheim (Golzheim):** About 1.5 km of lawns and paths along the Rhine, from the Rheinterrassen up to the Theodor-Heuss Bridge. It's flat and part of the 6 km Rhine route from the Old Town to the arena.
- **Nordpark (Stockum):** About 37 ha with broad paths and the Japanese Garden, close to the arena. The U78 stops at Nordpark/Aquazoo.
- **Rhine promenade (Altstadt):** The flat riverside promenade starts at Burgplatz and heads south past the Rheinturm toward the Medienhafen.
- **Hofgarten (Stadtmitte):** Germany's oldest public park, about 28 ha between Königsallee and the Rhine, with tree-lined avenues for short loops near central hotels.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Uerige (Altstadt):** The classic Altbier brewery on Berger Straße, open daily, including Sundays until 23:00. Go for the warm house meatballs or the daily seasonal hot dish.
- **Brauerei Schumacher (Stadtmitte):** The Stammhaus on Oststraße is Düsseldorf's oldest brewhouse, founded in 1838, and it's near the Hauptbahnhof. Reibekuchen (potato fritters) are solid carbs. It's open on Sundays until 21:30, and there's an alcohol-free Alt if you've got a heat to come.
- **Naniwa Noodles & Soups (Stadtmitte):** A Japanese-quarter favorite for handmade noodle soups, an easy-to-digest carb load the night before. It doesn't take reservations and is closed on Mondays and Thursdays, but it's open on Sundays.

### Race weekend events and parties

The **POWWOW Sports Festival** runs on Friday 13 November at the Arena-Sportpark, next to the race venue. Expect talks and masterclasses with Robert Harting, Maria Riesch and Moritz Fürste, plus a village of trend sports and recovery stands. According to the organizer, a POWWOW ticket also gets you in to watch Friday's HYROX races.

On Wednesday 11 November at 11:11, **Hoppeditz' Erwachen** on the Marktplatz in front of City Hall kicks off Carnival season with a satirical speech. As of 15 October 2026, no official HYROX after-party or shakeout run had been announced. Watch HYROX's channels closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Holmes Place Düsseldorf Provinzialplatz (Wersten):** A four-lane pool, a whirlpool, Finnish and bio saunas, and a plunge pool. It offers a bookable trial session.
- **Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf (Airport):** The hotel says it charges €5 a day for its sauna and steam bath, while the pool is free. It's open from 6:00 to 23:00.

**Things to do:**

- Go up the **Rheinturm**, where the observation deck at 168 m is open daily until 23:30.
- Walk the **Königsallee**, Düsseldorf's grand shopping boulevard.
- Visit the **Japanese Garden in the Nordpark**, a 5,000 m² pond garden that the city's Japanese community gave Düsseldorf in 1975.

### Local insights

- **Carnival starts on race day one:** The season opens at 11:11 on 11.11. on the Marktplatz and runs until Ash Wednesday, 10 February 2027. If you race on Wednesday, give yourself extra travel time.
- **Order Alt, not Kölsch:** Düsseldorf's beer is Altbier, brewed in house at places like Uerige, Schumacher and Füchschen.
- **Transit apps:** The eezy.nrw tariff works through the Rheinbahn and VRR apps. You check in, ride and check out, and you pay by straight-line distance, capped at €63 a month. A Deutschlandticket covers U-Bahns, S-Bahns and regional trains, but not ICEs.
- **Sunday shutdown:** Shops in North Rhine-Westphalia close on Sundays. Buy gels, bananas and electrolytes by Saturday, or rely on station and airport shops. For a Sunday pharmacy, use the Apothekerkammer Nordrhein emergency-pharmacy search.
- **November weather:** Average highs are around 10°C (50°F), with lows near 4°C (39°F) and rain on about 17 days. Pack a warm layer.
- **Little Tokyo on the Rhine:** About 11,000 Japanese people live in and around Düsseldorf, Germany's largest Japanese community. Head to Oststraße for noodle soup before a race.
- **Getting a ride:** Uber operates in Düsseldorf, including taxi bookings and DUS airport pickups.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Ride the U78 to the end.** Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord is the last stop. Then it's about an 8-minute walk along Arena-Straße.
- **Bring a physical ID.** Check-in is only on your race day, and digital copies aren't accepted.
- **Don't drive unless you have to.** Car parks P1 and P2 are about a 20-minute walk from the arena, and there's no shuttle bus.
- **Watch for your start time.** HYROX releases individual start times about three days before the event, and you can't change them.
- **Sort out spectator tickets.** Anyone coming to watch, including at age-group ceremonies, needs a spectator ticket. On Friday, a POWWOW ticket also covers the races.
