## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

EōS Fitness HYROX San Diego brings four days of racing to the San Diego Convention Center, on the bay at the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter. Mid-May is mild and almost rain-free, though mornings are often gray. The one thing to know is that the airport is only a short ride from downtown, so you can fly in, check in and still fit in a shakeout along the waterfront.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 13 May to Sunday 16 May 2027
- **Venue:** San Diego Convention Center
- **Address:** 111 W Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101
- **Nearest public transport:** Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter stations on the San Diego Trolley, each a short walk from the halls
- **Divisions:** The race schedule hadn't been published as of 15 October 2026. The event page confirms age-group divisions with ceremonies in each one.
- **Also on site:** The HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners and the Thunderdome viewing area

### Getting to the venue

**From San Diego International Airport (SAN):** MTS Route 992 stops at Terminals 1 and 2 and runs every 15 minutes, 4:15 a.m. to midnight, to downtown at Broadway and Kettner Boulevard. From there, connect to the trolley toward the convention center. Tap a contactless bank card or phone wallet to pay. A taxi or rideshare is also a short trip.

**From Old Town and the north:** The free San Diego Flyer electric shuttle links both airport terminals with Old Town Transit Center, where you can catch the trolley, the COASTER and Amtrak.

**From the Gaslamp Quarter and East Village:** Walk. The Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge links the convention center with the neighborhoods across Harbor Drive.

### Where to stay

The Marina district has big hotels right next to the halls. The Gaslamp Quarter and East Village are a few blocks away with more restaurants. Little Italy is a short trolley ride north, with better-value boutique hotels and the Saturday farmers market.

- **Hilton San Diego Bayfront:** At 1 Park Boulevard on the bay, directly next to the convention center.
- **Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina:** At 333 West Harbor Drive, next to the convention center with marina views.
- **Omni San Diego Hotel:** At 675 L Street, directly opposite the convention center and linked by sky bridge to Petco Park.
- **La Pensione Hotel:** A small, affordable boutique hotel in Little Italy, a short trolley ride from the venue.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Invictus Fitness (East Village):** Close to the venue. It runs HYROX-focused training but doesn't claim affiliate status, and drop-in prices aren't published, so contact it first.
- **Mighty Fit SD (Midway District):** On Hancock Street between Old Town and Midway. It says it's an official HYROX affiliate and sells a $20 single-class credit.
- **CrossFit Humanity (Midway District):** On Pacific Highway, with HYROX-focused training and a $30 day pass.
- **CrossFit ATR (Mission Valley):** It says it's a certified HYROX affiliate and welcomes drop-ins. The price isn't listed.

### Where locals run

- **Embarcadero waterfront (Marina):** The flat bayfront promenade running from the convention center past Seaport Village to the USS Midway. Go out and back for an easy 3 to 5 km.
- **Balboa Park (Balboa Park):** A 1,200-acre park just northeast of downtown, with walking and jogging trails across its mesas and canyons. It's hillier than the waterfront, so keep it gentle before race day.
- **Mission Bay (Mission Bay):** About 22 km of flat paths around the largest man-made aquatic park in the US. It's a short drive north and a good choice for a longer post-race recovery jog or walk.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Cucina Urbana (Bankers Hill):** At 505 Laurel Street, near Balboa Park, with pastas made from scratch. A good carb-loading dinner the night before.
- **Oscar's Mexican Seafood (Hillcrest):** At 646 University Avenue, open from 8 a.m. Its fish tacos are a San Diego classic and light enough for a pre-race lunch.
- **Little Italy Mercato (Little Italy):** A year-round Saturday farmers market (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.) on West Date Street. Stock up on fruit and snacks for race day.
- **Seaport Village (Marina):** A waterfront cluster of restaurants and shops on the Embarcadero, a short walk from the venue for an easy post-race meal.

### Race weekend events and parties

The confirmed extras are the HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners, the Thunderdome viewing area, and age-group ceremonies after each division. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Check HYROX's official channels and the title sponsor EōS Fitness closer to the date.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Spa & Salon at The Del (Coronado):** At Hotel del Coronado, 1500 Orange Avenue. Book a massage to get access to the ocean-view spa pool and terrace.

**Things to do:**

- Tour the aircraft carrier **USS Midway Museum** on the Embarcadero, open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Spend an afternoon in **Balboa Park**, home to the San Diego Zoo and a cluster of museums along El Prado.
- Browse the **Little Italy Mercato** on Saturday morning.
- Walk the waterfront to **Seaport Village** at sunset.

### Local insights

- **Expect May Gray:** In May, a thick marine layer often keeps the coast cool and cloudy, while areas 8 to 16 km inland get sunshine. Average highs are about 21°C (70°F) and lows about 16°C (60°F), with almost no rain.
- **Use the free airport shuttle:** The San Diego Flyer runs free between both terminals and Old Town Transit Center, connecting to the trolley, the COASTER and Amtrak.
- **Tap to pay:** MTS buses and trolleys accept contactless debit and credit cards and phone wallets, so you don't need cash or a ticket.
- **Eat a California burrito:** Carne asada, French fries and cheese in a tortilla is San Diego's own post-race meal. Look for the city's "-berto's" taco shops, such as Roberto's, Alberto's and similar.
- **Cross Harbor Drive by the bridge:** The Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge links the convention center with East Village, so you don't have to cross the road at street level.
- **Visit the market on Saturday:** The Little Italy Mercato runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Wednesdays on a smaller scale.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Take the trolley.** Convention Center and Gaslamp Quarter stations are both close to the halls.
- **Bring ID to check in.** Nobody can check in for you, and registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first start wave.
- **Check your start time three days out.** Individual start times are linked about three days before the race and can't be changed.
- **Get spectators their tickets.** Spectators who want to enter before your check-in window go through the Spectators Desk with a ticket and ID.
- **Bring a layer for the morning.** Coastal mornings in May can be cool and damp under the marine layer, even if afternoons warm up.
