## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

Frankfurt's December race fills Hall 3.1 of Messe Frankfurt for four days, one or two stops from the main station, right in the middle of Christmas market season. The one thing to know: Sunday 13 December is an Advent Sunday and almost every shop will be shut, so stock up before then.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 10 December to Sunday 13 December 2026
- **Venue:** Messe Frankfurt (Hall 3.1)
- **Address:** Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, 60327 Frankfurt, Germany
- **Nearest public transport:** Frankfurt (Main) Messe S-Bahn station (S3, S4, S5, S6) for the Torhaus entrance, or Festhalle/Messe (U4 and trams 16 and 17), about five minutes' walk from the Torhaus
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Men and Women Pro, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men, Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays

### Getting to the venue

**From Frankfurt Airport:** Take the S8 or S9 from the airport's regional station to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. They run every 15 minutes and take about 10 minutes. Then ride the S3, S4, S5 or S6 two stops to Frankfurt (Main) Messe, or take the U4 one stop to Festhalle/Messe.

**From the Hauptbahnhof:** It's under five minutes by U4 or S-Bahn, or three stops on tram 16 or 17. You can also walk it in about ten minutes along Düsseldorfer Strasse; the pyramid top of the Messeturm keeps you on course.

### Where to stay

Stay along Europa-Allee in the Europaviertel to walk to the venue, or in the quieter Westend near the parks. Anywhere around the Hauptbahnhof is one or two stops away and makes airport trips easy.

- **Maritim Hotel Frankfurt:** On Theodor-Heuss-Allee directly beside the Messe and connected to the Congress Center. It has an 8th-floor pool with skyline views, and sauna and gym access cost €5 a day each.
- **Mövenpick Hotel Frankfurt City:** On Den Haager Strasse next to the trade-fair grounds, with free use of the fitness center.
- **Motel One Frankfurt-Messe:** On Europa-Allee between the Messe and the main station. Small rooms and no gym, but a solid budget base.
- **Premier Inn Frankfurt Messe:** On Europa-Allee at the eastern side of the grounds, with the U4 and S-Bahn Messe stops both under 800 m away.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Fitness First MyZeil (Innenstadt):** The race's naming partner runs HYROX classes at five Frankfurt clubs, including this one, Konstablerwache and Opernplatz. Book a free trial that covers a HYROX class; no paid day pass is listed.
- **Arc Frankfurt (Bahnhofsviertel):** A HYROX-only boutique studio on Taunusstrasse near the Hauptbahnhof. First-timers get two classes for €25. Weekend classes run 08:30 to 13:00 only.
- **CrossFit MainBox (East Frankfurt):** On Borsigallee, with a full race setup: SkiErg, rower, sled lane, wall balls, sandbags, farmers-carry dumbbells and a burpee broad jump strip. A HYROX drop-in costs €25.
- **FitSevenEleven (Kalbach):** A large club in the north of the city with a dedicated HYROX area and HYROX-certified coaches. Its €20 Open Gym Day Pass covers training but not classes.

### Where locals run

- **Main riverside (Innenstadt):** Flat paths line both banks, with about ten bridges to shorten or stretch your loop. A popular 8 km loop starts at the Nizza gardens near Willy-Brandt-Platz U-Bahn and crosses at the Friedensbrücke.
- **Grüneburgpark (Westend):** A calm 29-hectare park north of the Messe on gently rising ground, next to the Palmengarten.
- **Rebstockpark (Bockenheim):** A 28-hectare park just west of the grounds, built around a pond. Tram 17 runs out to it, making it the closest green space to the venue.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Apfelwein Wagner (Sachsenhausen):** A classic cider tavern open daily 11:00 to midnight. Order Grüne Soße, Frankfurt's cold herb sauce, with boiled eggs and fried potatoes (€15.50): a light, carb-friendly dinner the night before.
- **Zum Gemalten Haus (Sachsenhausen):** Two doors from Wagner, known for its award-winning Grüne Soße. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
- **Kleinmarkthalle (Innenstadt):** The covered market has more than 60 stalls, and Edel's Hausmannskost (stand 24) serves Grüne Soße. Open weekdays 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturday until 16:00; closed Sunday.
- **Skyline Plaza food court (Europaviertel):** The shopping center beside the Messe has one of the city's biggest food courts.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo, Youngstars race, Elite race or community run had been announced for HYROX Frankfurt. Check https://hyrox.com/ and HYROX's social channels closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Titus Thermen (Nordweststadt):** The city-run bath at Nordwestzentrum (U1 or U9) has ten saunas and steam rooms, a roof-terrace sauna and a whirlpool. A two-hour sauna and swim ticket costs €14 at weekends. The lower level is women-only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

**Things to do:**

- Walk the **Frankfurt Christmas Market**, which runs from 23 November to 22 December across Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, Hauptwache and nearby squares. Hours are 10:00 to 21:00 (Sunday from 11:00).
- Ride up the **Main Tower** to its 200 m observation deck. It's open until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday.
- Cross the **Eiserner Steg**, the footbridge that has linked the old town and Sachsenhausen since 1868, then head to Schweizer Strasse for cider.

### Local insights

- **Airport fares are different:** A single ticket anywhere in Frankfurt costs €3.80 in 2026, but the airport is its own fare zone and isn't covered. Buy an airport-to-city ticket, ideally in the RMVgo app.
- **Advent Sunday shutdown:** Shops in Hesse must stay closed on Sundays, and the law bans special Sunday openings on Advent Sundays. Sunday 13 December is one, so do your shopping by Saturday 12 December.
- **Where you can still shop on Sunday:** Station shops may open but can only sell travel items like snacks, drinks and toiletries. Airport shops have no limits, and bakeries may sell fresh goods for six hours on a Sunday.
- **Sunday pharmacies:** Designated emergency-duty pharmacies stay open, organized by the Landesapothekerkammer Hessen. Closed pharmacies post a notice on the door saying which one is open.
- **December weather:** Average highs are around 5.5°C (42°F) and lows around 0.4°C (33°F). It rains or snows on about 16 days and there are only about 40 hours of sunshine in the whole month. Pack gloves and a hat for the shakeout run.
- **The local carb load:** Grüne Soße with potatoes is what Frankfurt eats. Taverns serve it with eggs or schnitzel; the egg version is lighter.
- **Sauna near the Messe is gone for now:** The Rebstockbad by the trade-fair grounds is being rebuilt and isn't among the city's open saunas. Head to Titus Thermen instead.
- **Getting a ride:** Uber operates in Frankfurt around the clock, including pickups at the airport.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Check-in is only on your race day, digital copies aren't accepted, and you can't check in for anyone else.
- **Collect everything at check-in.** You get an athlete wristband, a venue access wristband, an ankle strap with timing chip and a bib, and you can't start without all four.
- **Allow time inside the grounds.** The grounds are vast, and HYROX hasn't yet published which entrance serves Hall 3.1. Check your athlete emails and follow the signs from the Torhaus.
- **Spectator tickets:** Friends need their own spectator tickets, sold separately on the HYROX site. Flex options can't be added to them.
- **Plan for cold.** December evenings drop to around freezing, so bring a warm layer and dry clothes for the trip home.
- **Eat next door.** The Skyline Plaza food court is right beside the grounds if you need food between heats or after a late wave.

### FAQ

### How do I get to Messe Frankfurt from Frankfurt Airport?

Take the S8 or S9 to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, about 10 minutes, then the S3, S4, S5 or S6 two stops to Frankfurt (Main) Messe. Buy a ticket that covers the airport zone, since a standard city ticket doesn't.

### Where should I stay for HYROX Frankfurt?

The Europaviertel and the hotels right on the Messe, such as the Maritim and Mövenpick, let you walk to Hall 3.1. Hotels around the Hauptbahnhof are one or two stops away.

### Are shops open in Frankfurt on Sunday 13 December?

Almost none. It's an Advent Sunday, so normal shops and supermarkets are closed. Only bakeries for a few hours, station shops selling travel goods, airport shops and duty pharmacies are open.
