## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Hanoi takes over the Vietnam Exposition Center (VEC) on the first weekend of March 2027. It's the huge Vingroup-built complex in Dong Anh that opened in 2025, and its Kim Quy Hall is billed as the world's largest circular exhibition hall. The one thing to know is that VEC is close to Noi Bai airport but a long ride from the Old Quarter, so plan your rides as carefully as your pacing.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Saturday 6 March to Sunday 7 March 2027
- **Venue:** Vietnam Exposition Center (VEC)
- **Address:** Tu Lien Bridge Road, Dong Anh, Hanoi, Vietnam
- **Nearest public transport:** Nothing walkable from the center. Bus routes 43 and E10 (E10 from Noi Bai) served VEC at its 2025 opening, so check them in Google Maps first. Plan on a ride-hail.
- **Divisions:** Open and Pro singles, Doubles and Doubles Pro, Relays, and Adaptive (men and women)

### Getting to the venue

**From Noi Bai airport:** VEC sits on the airport side of the city, and the drive was reported at about 15 minutes. Take a Grab or Green SM car from arrivals. To reach the city first, airport bus 86 costs 50,000 dong and runs every 25 minutes. It takes about 45 minutes to the Old Quarter.

**From the Old Quarter or Tay Ho:** Take a Grab or Green SM car. VEC recommends the route from Hoan Kiem over the Chuong Duong and Dong Tru bridges to National Route 5. From Tay Ho or Ba Dinh, you'll cross Nhat Tan Bridge instead. Reports put it at about half an hour from the inner city; allow more on weekend evenings.

**Getting back:** The last waves start around 20:20 on both days, so lots of people will want a ride at the same time. Book yours while you cool down.

### Where to stay

VEC has no established hotel cluster yet, so base yourself in town. Tay Ho, around West Lake, is the best compromise: it has the best running and the quicker route north. The Old Quarter is the place to stay for food and the weekend walking streets.

- **Pan Pacific Hanoi (Ba Dinh):** On Thanh Nien Road between West Lake and Truc Bach Lake. It has a 24-hour gym, a sauna and a pool with a retractable roof.
- **InterContinental Hanoi Westlake (Tay Ho):** At 5 Tu Hoa Street on the West Lake shore, a calm base on the north side.
- **L'Hôtel du Lac (Hoan Kiem):** An Old Quarter boutique hotel on Hang Trong Street, with a pool, a gym and a spa.
- **Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi (Hoan Kiem):** The 15 Ngo Quyen classic, with a pool, a fitness room and a spa, if you want to splurge.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **California Fitness & Yoga West Point (Tay Ho):** At Somerset West Point, open 06:00 to 22:00. The chain runs Hyrox Group Classes and gives new customers a 7-day free trial. It doesn't advertise a day pass or claim to be an official HYROX Training Club.
- **California Fitness & Yoga Hang Da Plaza (Hoan Kiem):** An Old Quarter branch with the same trial offer. It's open from 06:00 and closes at 21:00 at weekends.
- **UNDRGRND Athletics (Tay Ho):** The new home of CrossFit Tay Ho, in the basement of Lion Mall at 59 Xuan Dieu. Drop-in prices aren't listed, so message the gym first.

### Where locals run

- **West Lake (Tay Ho):** The shoreline is about 17 km around and flat. Run a section near Tran Quoc Pagoda early in the morning, before the traffic builds.
- **Truc Bach Lake (Ba Dinh):** A smaller lake cut off from West Lake by Thanh Nien Road. A flat lap makes an easy shakeout from the Pan Pacific.
- **Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem):** It's only about 700 m long, so laps are short and flat. At dawn you'll share it with locals doing tai chi.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Pho Gia Truyen (Hoan Kiem):** At 49 Bat Dan, the classic race-morning beef pho: rice noodles plus salty broth. It's open 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00, with long weekend lines.
- **Bun Cha Huong Lien (Hai Ba Trung):** The Obama-and-Bourdain spot at 24 Le Van Huu. Grilled pork with rice vermicelli makes a good post-race lunch. Go at 10:00 or 14:30 to avoid the tour groups.
- **Bun Cha Dac Kim (Hoan Kiem):** At 1 Hang Manh, open 08:00 to 19:00, and often rated among the city's best bun cha.
- **Pho 10 Ly Quoc Su (Hoan Kiem):** A dependable beef pho for the night before.
- **Giang Cafe (Hoan Kiem):** The home of egg coffee, at 39 Nguyen Huu Huan. Save it for after the race.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo, community run or Youngstars race had been announced for HYROX Hanoi. Ceremony times were still to be confirmed. Watch https://hyrox.com/ for news.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Le Spa du Metropole (Hoan Kiem):** The Metropole's spa, an easy splurge after Sunday's race.
- **La Maison Spa (Hoan Kiem):** The spa at L'Hôtel du Lac.
- **Pan Pacific Hanoi (Ba Dinh):** A sauna, a jacuzzi and a covered pool by West Lake. Ask whether non-guests can use them.

**Things to do:**

- Cross the red **The Huc Bridge** to **Ngoc Son Temple** on Hoan Kiem Lake.
- Visit **Tran Quoc Pagoda**, on a small island in West Lake. Its history goes back to the 6th century.
- See a show at the **Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre** by Hoan Kiem Lake. Check show times before you go.
- Browse the **Old Quarter weekend night market** from 19:00, then drink fresh bia hoi on **Ta Hien Beer Street**.

### Local insights

- **Tết won't get in the way:** Lunar New Year falls on 6 February 2027, a month before the race, so holiday closures will be long over.
- **Xanh SM is now Green SM:** The all-electric VinFast taxi company renamed itself on 14 April 2026 and launched a new app. Grab is the other main option, with an English interface, upfront fares, and payment in cash or by card.
- **Skip airport touts:** Unlicensed taxis often charge two to three times the app fare. If you take a metered cab, use a company counter such as Mai Linh.
- **Don't drink the tap water:** Hanoi's tap water isn't safe to drink, so buy bottled water.
- **Carry small dong:** Cards work in hotels and many restaurants, but cash still matters. ATMs are everywhere, though fees vary. Small notes stop drivers claiming they have no change.
- **No tipping pressure:** Locals don't tip and nobody expects it.
- **Cross like a local:** Walk at a slow, steady pace through motorbike traffic and let cars and buses go first.
- **Mild, gray March:** Expect highs around 23°C (73°F), lows around 18°C (65°F) and humidity near 88%. Drizzle falls on about 16 days of the month.
- **Get a SIM on arrival:** Cheap tourist SIMs with plenty of data are sold in the arrivals hall, and you'll need data to book the ride back from Dong Anh.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring photo ID.** You must check in yourself; nobody can do it for you.
- **Your wristband is valid on your race day only.** Before check-in opens, you can enter through Spectators check-in with your QR code. Friends need spectator tickets.
- **Book your ride early.** The last waves start around 20:20, and Dong Anh is far from most hotels.
- **Know what's on site.** VEC has a food court, a café, a medical station and free Wi-Fi, but bring your own pre-race snacks.
- **Pack a light rain layer.** March drizzle is common.
