## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Hamburg runs for five days at the Hamburg Messe, right in the city center between Planten un Blomen park and the Sternschanze district. It also opens the 2026/27 Elite Series, so you might share the weekend with the fastest racers in the world. Plan around one thing: Saturday 31 October is Reformation Day, a public holiday in Hamburg, so shops are shut on both Saturday and Sunday.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November 2026
- **Venue:** Hamburg Messe, Hall B6 (age-group racing), entered through Entrance South
- **Address:** Hamburg Messe, Hall B6, Entrance South (Eingang Süd), Messeplatz 1, 20357 Hamburg, Germany
- **Nearest public transport:** Messehallen U-Bahn station (U2), which has a covered walkway straight to the Foyer Süd entrance. Sternschanze (U3, S-Bahn) and Dammtor (S-Bahn and long-distance trains) also serve other entrances to the fairgrounds.
- **Divisions:** Open and Pro singles, Doubles, Pro Doubles, Relay and Adaptive
- **Also on site:** The Elite 15 and Challenger races open the Elite Series season in Hall B5, with singles on Friday 30 October and doubles on Saturday 31 October.

### Getting to the venue

**From Hamburg Airport (HAM):** Hamburg Messe recommends the S1 from the airport to Jungfernstieg, then the U2 to Messehallen, which puts you right at Entrance South. A single ticket is around €4. A taxi takes about 20 minutes and costs about €30–35, according to the Messe.

**From the Hauptbahnhof and city center:** The U2 runs through Jungfernstieg and Gänsemarkt to Messehallen. If you arrive by ICE, you can also get off at Dammtor, which is next to the eastern side of the fairgrounds, and walk through the park.

**From Sternschanze and St. Pauli:** Sternschanze station (U3 and S-Bahn) serves the West Entrance. From there, it's a short walk along the halls to Entrance South.

### Where to stay

**Sternschanze** is the best base if you like cafés and nightlife, and you can walk to the venue. **Neustadt**, around the Michel church, puts you between the Messe and the harbor. The area around **Dammtor** is quieter, sits on the edge of Planten un Blomen, and has good train connections.

- **Mövenpick Hotel Hamburg (Sternschanze):** Built inside a former water tower in Sternschanzenpark, a few minutes' walk from the fairgrounds, with a fitness area and sauna for guests.
- **IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor-Messe (Dammtor):** On St. Petersburger Straße next to Planten un Blomen, close to the Messe and the CCH.
- **Motel One Hamburg am Michel (Neustadt):** A good-value option on Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, near the southern entrance to Planten un Blomen.
- **Superbude St. Pauli (St. Pauli):** A budget hostel-hotel on Juliusstraße, between Sternschanze and St. Pauli, with rooms for groups. It's handy for relay teams.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **EVO Fitness Hamburg Stadthausbrücke (Neustadt):** EVO lists this as one of its four official HYROX clubs in Germany. It's open daily from 06:00 to 23:00, and EVO offers a free HYROX introduction session you can book online. EVO sells day passes, but it doesn't confirm them for this club.
- **EVO Fitness Hamburg Schanze (Sternschanze):** The closest option to the venue, on Kampstraße, with strength, functional and cardio zones. You can buy a day pass online with instant access and no appointment. HYROX-specific kit isn't listed, and you need your own padlock for the lockers.
- **Fitness First Hamburg Eppendorf Straßenbahnring (Eppendorf):** The only Hamburg Fitness First club that lists HYROX classes. Fitness First offers a free trial session for non-members. Check the class schedule before you go.

### Where locals run

- **Planten un Blomen (St. Pauli):** The park starts right next to the Messe. Hamburg Tourism suggests a loop of about 2.3 km starting at the entrance opposite the TV tower, past the lake, the Mediterranean terraces and the greenhouses. Add laps as you like.
- **Alster loop (Rotherbaum):** The 7.4 km loop around the Outer Alster lake is Hamburg's most popular run. It's flat and well surfaced, with markers every 500 m, starting from zero at Café Cliff.
- **Altonaer Volkspark (Bahrenfeld):** For gentle hills, start from Stellingen S-Bahn station. The path network covers 5 km or more through the gardens.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Old Commercial Room (Neustadt):** A classic by the Michel church, open daily from 12:00 to 23:00. Order Labskaus, the sailors' dish of mashed potato, corned beef and beetroot, usually topped with a fried egg. It's a solid post-race refuel.
- **Brücke 10 (St. Pauli):** The famous fish-sandwich stand on the Landungsbrücken piers. Get a Matjes or Krabben (shrimp) Fischbrötchen and watch the ships. It's open daily, with shorter hours from November.
- **Die kleine Konditorei (Eimsbüttel):** Hamburg Tourism calls its Franzbrötchen probably the best in the city. These are the local cinnamon-and-sugar pastries, and they make a good race-morning carb.
- **Franz & Friends (St. Georg):** A Franzbrötchen specialist in the Hauptbahnhof concourse, handy if you're coming or going by train.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, shakeout run or community event for HYROX Hamburg had been announced. In 2025, an after-race party was held with Kaifu-Lodge at NOHO on the Reeperbahn, so watch the HYROX and local gym channels closer to race week. On Saturday 31 October, Reformation Day, the Jenisch Haus museum offers free entry as part of Hamburg's #seeforfree day.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Kaifu-Bad (Eimsbüttel):** A public pool with a 600 m² sauna area on two floors and a heated outdoor pool open all year. It's open until 22:00 on weekends, and an adult day ticket costs €7.90.

**Things to do:**

- Go up to the **Elbphilharmonie Plaza**, the public viewing deck 37 m above the harbor. It's open daily from 10:00 to midnight and costs €5 to book.
- Ride the **HADAG ferry line 62** from the Landungsbrücken along the Elbe past the Fischmarkt to Övelgönne and Finkenwerder. It's a cheap harbor tour that won't tire your legs.
- If you're up early on Sunday 1 November, wander the **Altona Fish Market**, which runs every Sunday morning until 9:30.

### Local insights

- **Transit tickets:** A single hvv ticket for Hamburg AB costs €4.10, and a day ticket costs €8.20. Buying in the hvv app or online shop saves 7%. Buses in Hamburg don't take cash, so buy a ticket before you board.
- **Double holiday weekend:** Reformation Day on Saturday 31 October is a public holiday in Hamburg. By law, shops close on Sundays and public holidays, so most stores will be shut on both Saturday and Sunday. Buy gels, electrolytes and breakfast food by Friday 30 October.
- **Sunday pharmacy:** If you need a pharmacy over the weekend, the Apothekerkammer Hamburg's emergency-pharmacy finder shows which one is on duty.
- **Late-October weather:** Average October highs are about 13.6°C (56.5°F), and November averages drop to 8.2°C (46.8°F), with rain on around 16 days a month. Bring a warm layer for the walk to the venue and a rain jacket for your shakeout run.
- **Tap water:** Hamburg's drinking water comes from groundwater and is strictly controlled as a food, so fill your bottle at the tap.
- **Cashless cloakroom:** The Messe's own cloakrooms in the foyers are fully cashless, and your bank card or phone works as the ticket.
- **Getting a ride:** Uber runs in Hamburg 24/7, including regular taxis through the app.

- **Catch the Elite races.** The Elite 15 and Challenger races are in Hall B5, with singles on Friday and doubles on Saturday. HYROX said spectator ticket details for the Elite races would follow.
- **Pack for the cold.** Late-October mornings in Hamburg are chilly and often wet, so wear warm layers over your race kit until you warm up.
