## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

Six months after it hosted the HYROX World Championships, Strawberry Arena in Solna, Sweden's national football stadium just north of the city, welcomes age-group racers for four days in mid-December. Solna station is a 10-minute walk away and seven minutes by train from Stockholm City. Plan around the dark: December gets only about six hours of daylight, so fit your shakeout run and sightseeing into the middle of the day.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 10 December to Sunday 13 December 2026
- **Venue:** Strawberry Arena
- **Address:** Råsta Strandväg 1, 169 79 Solna, Sweden
- **Nearest public transport:** Solna station (commuter trains and Tvärbanan light rail), about 10 minutes' walk from the north exit. Näckrosen on the blue metro line is about 15 minutes' walk.
- **Divisions:** Open and Pro singles, Doubles, Pro Doubles, Relay and Adaptive

### Getting to the venue

**From Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN):** SL commuter line 40 runs from Arlanda Central Station (SkyCity, between Terminals 4 and 5) through Solna with no change, usually every 30 minutes. The SEK 157 Arlanda station fee isn't in the normal SL fare: buy a ticket that includes it, or pay at the SkyCity gates. The Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central in 18 minutes, then you take a commuter train back out to Solna. A taxi takes about 40 minutes.

**From Stockholm City and Odenplan:** Commuter trains reach Solna station in about 7 minutes from Stockholm City and 4 minutes from Odenplan. Use the north exit. On the metro, take the blue line to Näckrosen or Solna centrum and walk 15 to 20 minutes.

**By taxi or Uber:** Official pick-up points are at Råsta Strandväg 16, behind the Comfort Hotel, and Skridskogatan 1, by Solna Simhall. Mall parking fills up on event days.

### Where to stay

**Arenastaden**, around the stadium, is easiest for an early heat. **Norrmalm**, by Stockholm Central, is seven minutes from Solna and close to everything else. **Vasastan**, around Odenplan, is calmer and has the shortest train ride.

- **Quality Hotel Strawberry Arena (Arenastaden):** Stockholm's largest hotel, a 25-story tower right next to the arena and Mall of Scandinavia, with a guest gym and saunas open 05:00 to 23:00.
- **Comfort Hotel Solna (Arenastaden):** On Evenemangsgatan, a stone's throw from the arena, with a 24/7 gym and early-bird breakfast.
- **Clarion Hotel Sign (Norrmalm):** On Norra Bantorget by Stockholm Central, with a 24/7 gym and the Selma City Spa, which has a heated rooftop pool and a sauna.
- **Hotel Ruth (Vasastan):** A family-owned boutique hotel a short walk from Odenplan, four minutes from Solna by train.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **CrossFit Tegen (Solna Centrum):** On Solna Torg, a stone's throw from the metro. It calls itself an officially HYROX-affiliated gym and runs coached HYROX sessions. No drop-in price is published, so contact them first.
- **Nordic Wellness Stockholm Hagastaden (Hagastaden):** On Norra Stationsgatan, between Solna and Odenplan. A SEK 150 day pass covers gym and classes. It lists a functional area and rowers, but not SkiErgs or sleds.
- **SATS Stockholm City (Norrmalm):** Two minutes from T-Centralen, with a HYROX area listed among its facilities. Non-members pay SEK 200 for a visit. Weekend hours are 10:00 to 18:00.

### Where locals run

- **Råstasjön (Arenastaden):** The arena sits right on this small lake, and the path around it is just under 2 km. It's handy for a short shakeout before check-in.
- **Brunnsviken loop (Hagaparken):** Solna's classic loop of about 11 km runs around the Brunnsviken inlet through Hagaparken and Bergianska trädgården. For less, do an out-and-back in Hagaparken. Bus 515 runs there from Odenplan.
- **Djurgården loop (Djurgården):** An 8.7 km loop around the edge of the Royal National City Park, past the museums. It suits anyone staying in the city center.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Pelikan (Södermalm):** A classic spot for Swedish husmanskost, open every day from 11:30. Order the handrolled meatballs in cream sauce for a solid carb-and-protein dinner the night before.
- **Vete-Katten Karolinska (Hagastaden):** The nearest branch of this Stockholm konditori to the venue, on Eugeniavägen. Get a kanelbulle, a cinnamon bun, with coffee as an easy race-morning carb. It's open from 10:00 at weekends.
- **Östermalms Saluhall (Östermalm):** Stockholm's grand food hall on Östermalms torg. The cheese and milk bar serves a porridge plate at breakfast, a gentle race-morning option. It closes at 17:00 on Saturdays.
- **Vapiano (Arenastaden):** A pasta bar inside Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, next to the arena. It's the simplest place for a bowl of pasta after you check in.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for HYROX Stockholm. The confirmed extra is the HYROX Entertainment Zone with event partners. Sunday 13 December is Lucia, when choirs in white sing in churches and concert halls across Stockholm, at both free and ticketed events. Check HYROX's channels closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Hellasgården (Nacka):** A lakeside sauna where locals dip in Källtorpssjön from the jetty all year. Weekend entry is SEK 180, 09:15 to 17:45.
- **Selma City Spa (Norrmalm):** Clarion Hotel Sign's spa has a heated rooftop pool and sauna, open until 22:00 on Saturdays, ages 16 and up.

**Things to do:**

- Catch a Lucia concert at **Skansen**, the open-air museum, where choirs have sung in the wooden Seglora Church on Lucia weekend. Check the 2026 program before you go.
- Walk off sore legs in **Hagaparken**, past Gustav III's Pavilion and the Butterfly House, along the shore of Brunnsviken.
- Ride a ferry in winter: SL travel cards are valid on the **Djurgården ferries**, a cheap way to see the city from the water.

### Local insights

- **Transit tickets:** An SL single ticket costs SEK 43 and is valid for 75 minutes. You can tap a contactless bank card at the metro and commuter-train barriers. You can't pay cash on buses, and riding without a ticket costs SEK 1,500 if you're checked.
- **Leave the cash at home:** Stockholm is largely cash-free, and many restaurants, shops and hotels don't take notes or coins. Strawberry Arena itself is fully cashless.
- **Plan for the dark:** December averages about six hours of daylight and only 33 hours of sunshine all month. Run around midday, and wear something reflective after dark.
- **December weather:** Expect highs around 2.5°C (36.5°F) and lows around −1.2°C (29.8°F). Paths can be icy, so bring warm layers and shoes with some grip.
- **Lussekatter for fuel:** Mid-December is saffron-bun season. Lussekatter are served with gingerbread and glögg (mulled wine) around Lucia. They make a good carb snack; save the glögg for after.
- **Taxis:** Fares aren't regulated. Check the yellow price sticker on the rear window, or book via Uber, Bolt, Taxi Stockholm or Taxi 020 to see the price first.
- **Celebration drinks:** Wine and spirits are sold only at Systembolaget, which closes early on Saturday and stays shut on Sunday. Buy your post-race bottle by Saturday afternoon.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Check-in is in person, on your race day only, with physical ID. Photos and digital copies aren't accepted.
- **Arrive 90 minutes early.** Check-in for each division opens 90 minutes before its first wave. Individual start times are published about three days before the event and can't be changed.
- **Expect security checks.** The arena uses metal detectors and bag checks, and its general rules ban outside food, drinks and bottles. Check HYROX's athlete info for race-day exceptions. Stands inside are cashless.
- **Get spectator tickets in advance.** Friends need their own spectator ticket. If they want to enter before your check-in window, they go to the Spectators Desk with their ticket and ID.
- **Leave via Ulriksdal if you're heading north.** After big events, Solna station gets crowded. The arena points northbound travelers over Signalbron to Ulriksdal station instead.
