## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

Vienna's February race takes over Hall A of the Vienna Congress and Convention Center, the exhibition grounds formerly known as Messe Wien, right on the edge of the Prater park. The U2 drops you a few steps from the hall, and the flat Prater Hauptallee starts just outside. One warning for 2027: part of the airport rail line into the city is closed for rebuilding, so plan your arrival before you land.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Friday 19 February to Sunday 21 February 2027
- **Venue:** Vienna Congress and Convention Center (Hall A)
- **Address:** Vienna Congress and Convention Center, Hall A, Trabrennstraße 7, 1020 Vienna, Austria
- **Nearest public transport:** Messe-Prater (U2), a few steps from the Foyer A entrance that serves Halls A and B. Krieau (U2) is the stop for Foyer D, about a 7-minute walk away.
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Pro Men and Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men, Women) and Relays

### Getting to the venue

**From Vienna Airport (VIE):** From 7 September 2026 to the end of October 2027, the inner-city S-Bahn line between Praterstern and Hauptbahnhof is closed, so the usual train routes change. The City Airport Train runs as a premium bus to Wien Mitte in about 21 minutes, up to five times an hour. Change there to the U3 or U4, then to the U2 toward Seestadt. Vienna Airport Lines bus 5 runs to Praterstern, one U2 stop from the venue. A taxi, Uber or Bolt takes about 20 minutes.

**From Wien Hauptbahnhof (main station):** ÖBB Railjets from the airport reach Hauptbahnhof in about 15 minutes. From there, take the U1 to Praterstern and change to the U2 for one stop to Messe-Prater.

**From the city center:** Take the U1 from Stephansplatz to Praterstern and change to the U2 toward Seestadt. Messe-Prater is the next stop, and the whole trip takes around 8 to 10 minutes.

### Where to stay

Stay in Leopoldstadt, the 2nd district, if you want to walk to the hall and run in the Prater the morning before. The Innere Stadt (1st district) is a 10-minute U-Bahn ride away and has the coffeehouses, schnitzel and sights. Landstraße, around Wien Mitte, works well this year because the airport bus stops there.

- **Courtyard by Marriott Vienna Prater/Messe:** On Trabrennstraße about two minutes from the venue, with the Krieau U2 stop close by.
- **Hampton by Hilton Vienna Messe:** Right next to the venue and the Vienna University of Economics and Business campus, about three minutes' walk.
- **Zoku Vienna:** About five minutes on foot from the halls, close to both U2 stops.
- **Motel One Wien-Prater:** A value pick about 200 m from Messe-Prater station and a short walk from the Prater, roughly six minutes from the venue.
- **Superbude Wien Prater:** A casual, budget-friendly option about seven minutes' walk from the venue.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Zone.Fit 1020 (Leopoldstadt):** On Trabrennstraße, a couple of minutes from the venue. Its coaches run HYROX sessions, and Zone.Fit lists a €30 drop-in covering Open Gym and classes for the day, so confirm the price when you book.
- **Fitness First Wien Landstraße (Landstraße):** Runs 60-minute HYROX classes and offers a free trial workout that you book online. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed.
- **John Harris Fitness Hauptbahnhof (Favoriten):** A 2,400 m² club at the main station with rowing machines, a functional frame, kettlebells and saunas. It doesn't advertise HYROX kit or a day pass, so check with the club before you go.

### Where locals run

- **Prater Hauptallee (Leopoldstadt):** A 4.4 km chestnut-lined avenue from Praterstern to the Lusthaus, flat, paved and mostly closed to cars. Eliud Kipchoge ran his sub-two-hour marathon here. It passes the Krieau and the stadium, a few minutes' walk south of the venue.
- **Augarten (Leopoldstadt):** A 52-hectare Baroque park with a roughly 2.3 km loop that many runners use. It's two U2 stops toward the center, a short walk from Taborstraße.
- **Donauinsel (Donaustadt):** The 21 km Danube Island is long, flat and made for out-and-back runs along the water. Take the U2 to Praterstern and the U1 to Donauinsel, or walk over from the Hilton Waterfront side.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Figlmüller Wollzeile (Innere Stadt):** Vienna's best-known Wiener schnitzel, served daily from 11:00. Save it for after the race, and book ahead.
- **Figlmüller Bäckerstraße (Innere Stadt):** Around the corner from Wollzeile, with a vegan schnitzel and homemade Kaiserschmarrn, the shredded sweet pancake Austrians eat when they want a pile of carbs.
- **Luftburg Kolarik (Prater):** A big certified-organic Austrian restaurant in the Prater, walkable from the venue. It opens at 16:00 on weekdays and 11:00 on weekends, and the kitchen closes at 21:00.
- **Joseph Brot Albertinaplatz (Innere Stadt):** A sourdough bakery-bistro at Führichgasse 6, a reliable place for bread, coffee and breakfast before a later heat.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for HYROX Vienna. HYROX lists an Entertainment Zone with event partners at the venue, and charity places are available through Race for Impact. Check HYROX's official channels closer to the date.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Therme Wien (Oberlaa):** Vienna's big thermal spa sits next to the U1 Oberlaa stop, about 15 minutes from the center. It's open 9:00 to 22:00 with day tickets from €34.
- **Amalienbad (Favoriten):** A historic city pool on Reumannplatz with men's, women's and mixed sauna sessions. City pool entry costs around €8, and on Sundays the sauna is mixed from 13:00 to 17:30.

**Things to do:**

- Ride the **Wiener Riesenrad** Ferris wheel in the Prater, a short walk from the venue.
- Climb or just look up at **St. Stephen's Cathedral** in the heart of the old town.
- Spend a slow afternoon at **Schönbrunn Palace** and walk up to the Gloriette for the view.
- See Bruegel and Vermeer at the **Kunsthistorisches Museum** on the Ringstrasse.

### Local insights

- **Your city ticket doesn't cover the airport:** Vienna's core-zone tickets stop at the city boundary at Schwechat, so buy an airport ticket separately. Inside the city, a single ticket costs €3.20 and lasts 80 minutes, and the 24-hour ticket costs €10.20. Validate paper tickets at the blue machines before you board, because inspectors check often.
- **Use the WienMobil app:** Wiener Linien's own app plans trips and sells tickets, which beats queuing at machines after you race.
- **Everything shuts on Sunday:** Shops close on Sundays, and only the big railway stations, the airport and museum shops trade. Stock up on Saturday or use a station shop.
- **Drink the tap water:** Vienna's water comes mainly from Alpine springs piped into the city, and the tourist board says it's excellent straight from the tap. Bring a bottle and refill it for free.
- **Tip about 10 percent:** Rounding up or adding around 10 percent in restaurants and coffeehouses is normal. You can add the tip when you pay by card.
- **February is cold and grey:** Average highs are about 7°C (45°F) with lows around 1°C (34°F). Pack gloves and a hat for your shakeout.
- **Ride-hail works fine:** Both Uber and Bolt run in Vienna, including airport trips, and Uber also books regular Vienna taxis through the app.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Get off at Messe-Prater.** Hall A sits behind Foyer A, a few steps from that U2 stop. Krieau is the stop for Foyer D, which is the wrong end for most races.
- **Bring physical ID.** HYROX requires a physical ID at check-in, and photos or digital copies aren't accepted.
- **Check in only on your race day.** You can't collect a wristband, timing chip or bib for someone else.
- **Sort spectator tickets early.** Spectators need a spectator ticket, including for weekday age-group ceremonies.
- **Dress for the walk.** February mornings are near freezing, so bring a warm layer and dry clothes for afterward.

### FAQ

### How do I get to the Vienna Congress and Convention Center from the airport?

In 2027, take the City Airport Train bus to Wien Mitte, then the U-Bahn to Messe-Prater on the U2, or take Vienna Airport Lines bus 5 to Praterstern and ride one U2 stop. A taxi or ride-hail takes about 20 minutes.

### Where should I stay for HYROX Vienna?

Leopoldstadt puts you within walking distance of the hall and the Prater. The Courtyard, Hampton by Hilton, Zoku and Motel One are all within about six minutes on foot.

### Is the venue the same as Messe Wien?

Yes. It traded as Messe Wien until 2025 and is now called VIECON, so older maps still use the old name.
