## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Manchester runs over two back-to-back race weeks in late January 2027 at Manchester Central, a convention complex right in the city center. Trains, trams, hotels and canal towpaths are all a short walk away. The one thing to know is that it's January in the north of England, so plan for cold, wet and dark, and pack a warm layer for before and after your heat.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Two race weeks: Wednesday 20 to Sunday 24 January 2027, and Wednesday 27 to Sunday 31 January 2027
- **Venue:** Manchester Central Convention Complex
- **Address:** Manchester Central Convention Complex, Windmill Street, Manchester M2 3GX
- **Nearest public transport:** Deansgate rail station and the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop, about a 5-minute walk. Oxford Road station and the St Peter's Square tram stop are also close.
- **Divisions:** Men, Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Men and Women, Pro Doubles (Men, Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays. Pro, Relay and some Doubles divisions run on specific days only.

### Getting to the venue

**From Manchester Airport:** Trains to Manchester Piccadilly leave every 10 minutes and take about 20 minutes. From Piccadilly it's about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi to the venue. Direct trams also run, but they're slower.

**From Manchester Piccadilly or Victoria:** Take a Metrolink tram to St Peter's Square or Deansgate-Castlefield, then walk a few minutes. Trams run every few minutes.

**From elsewhere in the UK:** If your train stops at Oxford Road or Deansgate, get off there. Both are 5 to 10 minutes' walk from the venue.

### Where to stay

Base yourself around St Peter's Square and Peter Street, right next to the venue, or in Castlefield and Deansgate for canal runs on your doorstep. The Northern Quarter, on the other side of the center, has the city's best independent food and gyms.

- **The Midland:** A grand historic hotel on Peter Street, a short walk from Manchester Central, with the St Peter's Square tram stop beside it. It has its own spa and thermal suite plus a gym for hotel guests.
- **Premier Inn Manchester Central:** On Lower Mosley Street opposite The Midland, a few minutes' walk from the venue. Good value for an early start.
- **Leonardo Hotel Manchester Central:** On Great Bridgewater Street next to Bridgewater Hall, a short walk from the venue and close to Oxford Road station. Breakfast is served daily.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **PureGym Manchester Market Street (City Centre):** Open 24 hours, with a functional training area that includes a sled track. Day passes are sold, but check the price first.
- **The Gym Group Manchester Ancoats (Northern Quarter):** On Oldham Street, with a sled track in its hybrid training area and HYROX classes on its timetable. Open 24/7. A day pass isn't confirmed for this branch.
- **ONE XPS Fitness (Northern Quarter):** Runs 17 HYROX classes a week across its Northern Quarter and Ancoats gyms. Classes are for members, so ask about one-off visits.
- **CrossFit 3D (Trafford Park):** Calls itself a HYROX-affiliated gym, and you can book a drop-in HYROX class through its online timetable.

### Where locals run

- **Rochdale Canal towpath (Castlefield):** It starts at Castlefield Basin, a few minutes from the venue, and runs northeast past locks and old warehouses toward Piccadilly. Flat; turn back whenever you like.
- **Bridgewater Way (Castlefield):** A flat canalside path heading southwest from Castlefield. Running out to Old Trafford and back makes an easy loop of about 6.5 km (4 miles).
- **Salford Quays (Salford):** A loop of nearly 4 km around the old dock basins, past The Lowry and Imperial War Museum North. Take the Metrolink from Deansgate-Castlefield to get there.
- **Heaton Park (Higher Blackley):** At 600-plus acres, it's Greater Manchester's biggest park, with rolling hills and views toward the Pennines. A free 5 km parkrun starts here every Saturday at 9 a.m. Take the Metrolink to the Heaton Park stop.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Federal Cafe & Bar (Deansgate):** An all-day brunch café on Deansgate, a short walk from the venue. Walk-in only. Eggs on sourdough or porridge before an afternoon heat.
- **Rudy's Pizza (Peter Street):** Pizza on Peter Street, a short walk from the venue, open from 11:45 a.m. every day. An easy carb-heavy dinner the night before.
- **Mackie Mayor (Northern Quarter):** A food hall in an 1858 market building, with sourdough pizza from Honest Crust and bowls from New Wave Ramen. Hours vary by day.
- **Sam's Chop House (City Centre):** A Victorian chop house off Chapel Walks, dating back to 1872. Order the corned beef hash or the steak and kidney pudding with mash for a proper northern post-race refuel.

### Race weekend events and parties

HYROX lists an Entertainment Zone with event partners and the Thunderdome viewing area at the venue. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for either race week. Watch HYROX's official channels and local run clubs closer to January.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Fix (Northern Quarter):** A contrast therapy studio on Newton Street with a large cedar sauna and two ice baths. Book a 45- or 90-minute free-flow session.
- **Rena Spa at The Midland (St Peter's Square):** The hotel's spa has a thermal suite and sells spa day packages. It's a short walk from the venue.

**Things to do:**

- Walk across to the **Science and Industry Museum** in Castlefield, free to enter and a few minutes from the venue. Parts are closed for restoration, so book a free ticket and check what's open.
- Take the tram to **Salford Quays** for The Lowry arts center and Imperial War Museum North.
- Climb to the Temple in **Heaton Park**, the highest point in the city of Manchester.

### Local insights

- **Tap in and tap out on the tram:** Metrolink accepts contactless cards, phones and watches. Tap in before you board and tap out at the end. Machines are on platforms, not on board, and the Bee Network app sells tickets too.
- **Buses cap your fares too:** Bee Network buses take contactless and cap what you pay each day and week, so you don't need to buy a ticket in advance.
- **The local carb load:** Lancashire hotpot is the region's classic slow-cooked dish: lamb and onions under a layer of sliced potatoes, often served with pickled red cabbage. It's hearty fuel the night before a big effort.
- **January weather:** Expect highs around 7°C (45°F) and lows around 2°C (35°F), with rain on about 13 days of the month and less than two hours of sunshine a day on average. Pack a waterproof and run in daylight.
- **Sunday shopping hours:** Large shops in England can only open for six hours on a Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Small convenience stores and pharmacies aren't restricted.
- **Drink the tap water:** Tap water in England is regulated by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and safe to drink.
- **Check the bill before you tip:** Many restaurants add a discretionary 12.5% service charge. If it's there, you don't need to tip again. If not, about 10% is normal for table service.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Digital copies and photos aren't accepted. You can only check in on the day you race, and nobody can check in for you.
- **Arrive early.** On-site registration for each division opens 90 minutes before its first start wave. You need your wristbands, timing chip and bib to race.
- **Check which week you're in.** Sunday start times differ between 24 and 31 January, so confirm your wave.
- **Use the tram or train.** Parking is limited. The NCP car park sits directly under the venue, but you should book ahead. A taxi rank is at the front of the building.
- **Get spectator tickets for your supporters.** Spectators need their own tickets. To get in before their official window, they can go to the Spectators Desk with a ticket and ID.
