## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Mechelen runs for five days at the Nekkerhal, an event hall on the southeast edge of a compact Flemish city that sits between Brussels and Antwerp. Brussels Airport is a short direct train ride away. That means you can stay in Mechelen's car-free old town, or in either big city, and still reach the start line easily. Early March is cool, damp and gray, so pack layers and plan your warm-up indoors.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 March 2027
- **Venue:** Nekkerhal
- **Address:** Plattebeekstraat 1, 2800 Mechelen, Belgium
- **Nearest public transport:** Mechelen-Nekkerspoel station, about 0.7 km from the hall in a straight line according to OpenStreetMap. Not every train stops there.
- **Divisions:** Open, Pro and Adaptive singles; Open Doubles (men, women and mixed); Pro Doubles (men and women); and men's, women's and mixed Relay

### Getting to the venue

**From Brussels Airport:** Visit Mechelen says a direct train reaches Mechelen station in about 11 minutes and costs about €11. Airport tickets include a surcharge. De Lijn buses take 45 to 50 minutes and cost about €3.

**From Brussels or Antwerp:** Trains to Mechelen take about 20 minutes, according to Visit Mechelen. Check your connection, because some trains stop at Mechelen-Nekkerspoel, near the hall, and others only at the main station.

**From Mechelen station:** Buses 25, 30, 50 and 80 run to the De Nekker stop, which serves the sports domain across the N15 from the hall. Taxis wait at the station exit on Koning Albertplein.

### Where to stay

The **old town** around the Grote Markt and Vismarkt is compact, walkable and full of places to eat. If you want more nightlife or cheaper rooms, base yourself in **Antwerp** or **Brussels** and take the train in.

- **Hotel Vé (Vismarkt):** It's a four-star hotel in a former fish smokehouse on Mechelen's liveliest square, and guests can use the pool, saunas and jacuzzi in the mornings.
- **Martin's Patershof (City centre):** It's a four-star hotel in a former church, with some rooms in the old nave, and a central base for walking to dinner.
- **Hotel Elisabeth (City centre):** It's a three-star hotel in a renovated interwar hospital with an indoor pool.
- **Hotel Malcot (Muizen):** It's a quiet 10-room hotel on the Muizen side of Mechelen, with free parking if you're driving.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Coached (Mechelen):** It's a health club on Brusselsesteenweg that runs HYROX group training and a "Hyrox Engine" class. Its introductory offer is two classes for €18.
- **De Gym Mechelen (Mechelen):** It's on Kruisbaan and runs HYROX sessions with sled pushes, wall balls and lunges. It offers a free trial week, but it doesn't advertise a day pass, so contact the gym first.
- **Jims Mechelen (Mechelen):** It's on Oscar van Kesbeeckstraat and sells a €15 day pass at the club, which includes group classes.

### Where locals run

- **Dyle Towpath (City centre):** It's a towpath along the Dyle between Haverwerf and the Botanical Garden, with a section that floats on the water. One access point is at Nekkerspoel-Borcht, near the venue. The ramps get slippery when wet.
- **Vrijbroekpark (Mechelen):** It's a free 50-hectare provincial park on the edge of the city, open sunrise to sunset with paths and a rose garden.
- **Mechels Broek (Nekkerspoel):** It's a marshy nature area of about 1 km² beside the Dyle, near the Nekkerhal, with paths along two lakes. Keep to the marked trails.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **De Vleeshalle (City centre):** It's a food hall in a 19th-century meat market with 14 stands, including Italian, burgers and tapas. It's closed on Mondays.
- **Brasserie Het Anker (City centre):** It's the restaurant at the Gouden Carolus brewery. For a post-race refuel, order the Flemish beef stew cooked in Gouden Carolus Classic, served with fries. The fettuccine and lasagne work for pre-race carbs.
- **Saturday market (Grote Markt):** It runs from 7 am to 1 pm every Saturday for fresh produce and snacks.
- **IJzerenleen (City centre):** Visit Mechelen recommends this street for coffee bars and breakfast spots, from a quick coffee to a full brunch.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, fan village or community run had been announced for HYROX Mechelen 2027, and ceremony times were still listed as TBA. The event information does mention a finish zone with recovery drinks, a BLACKROLL recovery zone and a partner entertainment zone inside the venue. Follow HYROX's official channels and Belgian HYROX clubs for news closer to race week.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Hotel Vé wellness (Vismarkt):** It has a pool, saunas, a steam bath and a jacuzzi. Hotel guests can use it in the mornings for €15, and anyone can book it privately for two people from €105.
- **De Nekkerpool (Nekkerspoel):** It's the swimming complex at the De Nekker sports domain, across the road from the hall, with lap lanes for an easy recovery swim.

**Things to do:**

- Climb the 538 steps of **St Rumbold's Tower** to the skywalk at the top. Adult tickets cost €8.
- Wander the UNESCO-listed **Large Beguinage**.
- Tour the **Het Anker Brewery-Distillery**, one of Belgium's oldest breweries, and taste the beers.
- See the city from the water on a **boat trip on the Inner Dyle**.

### Local insights

- **Airport trains cost extra:** Most train tickets to or from Brussels Airport station carry the Diabolo surcharge, which is why a ticket costs about €11 for an 11-minute ride.
- **Tap to ride the bus:** On De Lijn buses, tap a contactless Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the white terminal. A ride costs €3, and transfers within 60 minutes are free.
- **Car-free center:** Motor traffic isn't allowed in the historic center between 11 am and 6 pm. Use the free M-shuttle from outer car parks.
- **Getting a ride:** Uber says it operates in Antwerp, but Mechelen isn't on its city list. In Mechelen, use the taxi rank outside the main station or call ahead.
- **Shopping Sunday on race Sunday:** City-center shops open on the first Sunday of each month from 1 pm to 6 pm, and 7 March 2027 is one of those Sundays. On other days, buy gels and snacks at the Saturday market or on weekdays.
- **Early-March weather:** Average March highs are around 10.8°C (51°F), with lows near 3°C (37°F) and about 12 days of rain. Bring a waterproof layer for the walk from the station.
- **Tap water:** Belgian drinking water is generally of good quality, so refill your bottle at the hotel.
- **Drink like a Maneblusser:** Locals are nicknamed Maneblussers, or "moon extinguishers," after a 1687 legend about mistaking moonlight on St Rumbold's Tower for a fire. Het Anker brews a city beer of the same name. Save it for after the race.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Arrive early and bring ID.** Doors open at 07:00, and check-in opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave. You can't collect a wristband or timing chip for someone else.
- **Use the bag drop.** It's next to the changing rooms and takes small gym bags. Collect yours within an hour of finishing.
- **Sort out spectator tickets in advance.** Spectators need their own tickets. Before your check-in window, they enter through the Spectators Desk with their ticket and ID.
- **Check the train stop.** If you're coming from Brussels or Antwerp, choose a train that stops at Mechelen-Nekkerspoel.
- **Expect the schedule to shift.** The provisional wave times run from 08:00 to about 20:30 every day and can still change, so check your start time in race week.
