## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Portland brings three days of racing to the Oregon Convention Center, on the east bank of the Willamette River in the Lloyd District. Late May is mild and green, with the roses starting to bloom, though showers are still common. The one thing to know is that the MAX Red Line runs straight from the airport terminal to the venue's front door, so you won't need a car.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Friday 21 May to Sunday 23 May 2027
- **Venue:** Oregon Convention Center
- **Address:** 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232
- **Nearest public transport:** Convention Center MAX station on NE Holladay Street (Blue, Green and Red Lines), plus the Portland Streetcar A Loop stop at NE MLK and Hoyt, right outside the main entrances
- **Divisions:** The race schedule hadn't been published as of 15 October 2026. The event page confirms age-group divisions with ceremonies after each one.
- **Also on site:** The HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners and the Thunderdome viewing area

### Getting to the venue

**From Portland International Airport (PDX):** Take the MAX Red Line from the Portland Airport station. Convention Center is the 12th stop, with no change. Trains run every 15 to 30 minutes from early morning until after midnight. The venue is about 13 km from the airport.

**From downtown:** Cross the river on any MAX Blue, Green or Red Line train to Convention Center, or take the Portland Streetcar A Loop, which runs every 15 minutes.

**Driving:** The convention center's underground garage has about 800 spaces, entered from NE Lloyd Blvd or NE First Avenue. It costs $15 a day, rising to $15 to $25 during larger events, and only accepts cards.

### Where to stay

The Lloyd District around the venue lets you walk to your heat. Across the river, downtown and Old Town have more choice and are one MAX ride away. The inner eastside along East Burnside, where the Jupiter Hotel sits, are good for food and a more local feel.

- **Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center:** Right next to the venue at 375 NE Holladay Street, with a 24-hour gym.
- **Hotel Eastlund:** A boutique hotel at 1021 NE Grand Avenue, about a three-minute walk from the venue. Takeaway breakfast starts at 6:30 a.m.
- **DoubleTree by Hilton Portland:** Within four blocks of the venue at 1000 NE Multnomah Street, with a MAX stop next door.
- **Jupiter Hotel:** On East Burnside, a short ride from the venue and close to several of the eastside restaurants below.
- **The Society Hotel:** A good-value boutique hotel in Old Town at 203 NW 3rd Avenue, across the river and an easy MAX ride from the venue.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Eastside Kettlebell Collective (Southeast Portland):** On SE 50th Avenue, listed as an official HYROX affiliate. Day-pass availability isn't confirmed, so contact it first.
- **The Underground PDX (Outer East Portland):** On SE 182nd Avenue, listed as an official HYROX Training Club. It's a long trip from the center.
- **VC Fitness (Pearl District):** On NW Lovejoy Street, offering coached HYROX training. Ask about drop-ins.
- **PDXFIT (Southeast Portland):** On SE 20th Avenue, with HYROX race-prep sessions. Check guest access before you go.

### Where locals run

- **Eastbank Esplanade and Waterfront Park loop (Willamette River):** Run the 2.4 km Eastbank Esplanade, with its floating walkway, between the Steel and Hawthorne Bridges, then cross and come back through Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the west bank. It's roughly 5 km, flat and paved, and the Steel Bridge end is a short walk from the venue.
- **Laurelhurst Park (Laurelhurst):** A leafy 32-acre park with paved and unpaved paths at SE César E. Chávez Boulevard and Stark Street. Good for an easy loop near the eastside hotels.
- **Leif Erikson Drive, Forest Park (Northwest Portland):** An 18 km road closed to cars that runs through Forest Park from the end of NW Thurman Street, below and roughly parallel to the Wildwood Trail. Run a few kilometers out and back.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Pine State Biscuits (Northeast Portland):** Its location at 125 NE Schuyler Street is a short ride from the venue and open daily 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A biscuit with eggs is a solid pre-race breakfast. Save the Reggie Deluxe, with fried chicken, cheese, bacon and gravy, for after.
- **Screen Door (Eastside):** At 2337 E Burnside, serving Southern-style brunch and fried chicken. It's mostly walk-in, so expect a line on weekends.
- **Grassa (Hawthorne):** A casual pasta spot at 1375 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, open daily 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Good for a carb-loading dinner. There's also a branch inside PDX for your flight home.
- **Ken's Artisan Pizza (Southeast Portland):** Wood-fired pizza at 304 SE 28th Avenue. It doesn't take reservations, so go early the night before your race.

### Race weekend events and parties

The confirmed extras are the HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners, the Thunderdome viewing area, and age-group ceremonies after each division. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Check HYROX's official channels and Portland run clubs closer to the date.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Löyly (Northeast Portland):** A Finnish-style sauna at 3525 NE MLK Jr Blvd, a short ride north of the venue. Book a session online. There's a second location on SE 21st Avenue.

**Things to do:**

- Get lost in **Powell's City of Books**, which fills a whole block in the Pearl District.
- See the roses at the **International Rose Test Garden** in Washington Park, where the blooms build toward a June peak.
- Visit the **Portland Japanese Garden**, also in Washington Park.
- Graze your way around a food cart pod such as **Cartopia** or **Hawthorne Asylum**.

### Local insights

- **Ride the Red Line from the terminal:** MAX leaves from inside PDX and stops at Convention Center with no transfer, so you can go from baggage claim to bib pickup by train.
- **Tap to pay and let the cap work:** TriMet's Hop system accepts contactless bank cards and phone wallets. Fares last 2.5 hours, and the system caps what you pay at the price of a day pass. Tap every time you board or transfer.
- **Bring a card, not cash:** The Oregon Convention Center is cashless, including the garage booths, food and drink.
- **There's no sales tax:** Oregon is one of five states without a statewide sales tax, so the price on the tag is what you pay.
- **Drink the tap water:** The Bull Run Watershed is the main source of Portland's drinking water. Refill your bottle at the tap.
- **Pack for showers:** Average May highs are about 20°C (69°F), with lows around 10°C (49°F) and measurable rain on about 13 days of the month. Bring a light rain shell for the walk to the venue.
- **Eat at the food carts:** Portland has about 25 food cart pods with around 500 carts, many of them cheap and quick.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Take MAX or the streetcar.** Trains and the streetcar stop right outside the main entrances, and the garage is first come, first served.
- **Bring ID to check in.** Nobody can check in for you, and registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first start wave.
- **Check your start time three days out.** Individual start times are linked about three days before the race and can't be changed.
- **Get spectators their tickets.** Spectators who want to enter before your check-in window go through the Spectators Desk with a ticket and ID.
- **Use a card everywhere.** The venue doesn't take cash, so make sure your card or phone wallet works before race day.
