## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Rio de Janeiro races at Riocentro, a 2016 Olympic venue in Barra Olímpica on the city's west side. The one thing to know: Riocentro is a long way from Copacabana and Ipanema, so decide early whether to stay near the start line or commute from the beaches. Late November is warm and showery, and the Friday before is a national holiday.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026
- **Venue:** Riocentro (Riocentro's calendar lists HYROX in Pavilion 4)
- **Address:** Av. Salvador Allende, 6555 - Barra Olímpica, Rio de Janeiro - RJ, 22783-127
- **Nearest public transport:** Riocentro and Olof Palme stations on the TransOlímpica BRT corridor, which the venue names as its closest stops
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Pro Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men, Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays. The schedule is provisional, and start times come out about three days before the race.
- **Also on site:** A HYROX Entertainment Zone with event partners and the Thunderdome viewing area over the course

### Getting to the venue

**From Galeão International Airport (GIG):** The TransCarioca BRT runs 24 hours from both terminals to Terminal Alvorada in Barra, where you connect onward. With bags, an official taxi from the arrivals booths or Uber or 99 is simpler.

**From Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) and the Zona Sul:** Take Metrô Line 4 to its terminus at Jardim Oceânico, then a BRT toward Riocentro or Olof Palme. Check the route in a transit app such as Moovit. For big Riocentro events the city has run special BRT services from Jardim Oceânico. Ride-hail is simpler and is what the venue suggests.

**By car:** Riocentro has more than 5,800 parking spaces. For big events, the city advises avoiding congested Avenida Salvador Allende where possible.

### Where to stay

Stay in **Barra Olímpica** to be near the start, **Barra da Tijuca** for beach runs and restaurants, or **Ipanema and Leblon** if the trip is as much about Rio as the race.

- **Lagune Barra Hotel:** It's inside the Riocentro complex, with a rooftop pool, gym and saunas.
- **ibis Rio de Janeiro Parque Olimpico:** A budget option on Avenida Embaixador Abelardo Bueno with easy access to Riocentro, according to Accor.
- **Courtyard Rio de Janeiro Barra da Tijuca:** A Riocentro hotel guide puts it about 2.3 km from the venue, with a gym and pool.
- **Novotel Rio de Janeiro Parque Olímpico:** Pools, gym and sauna in the Olympic Park area, a short drive away.
- **Windsor Marapendi Hotel:** A five-star beachfront hotel in Barra, about 13 km from the venue, for easy beach shakeouts.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Lagune Barra Hotel (Riocentro):** The closest gym to the course, for hotel guests.
- **Novotel Rio de Janeiro Parque Olímpico (Barra Olímpica):** A guest gym and sauna for light activation work.
- **Courtyard Rio de Janeiro Barra da Tijuca (Barra da Tijuca):** A guest gym and pool for an easy flush.

We couldn't confirm an official HYROX Training Club with day passes near Riocentro, so check the gym finder at https://hyrox.com/ before you travel. Ironberg is building a 24-hour gym with a HYROX area at Via Parque Shopping, but it had no opening date as of September 2026.

### Where locals run

- **Barra beach (Barra da Tijuca):** Rio's longest beach, about 18 km, with a flat cycle lane alongside for an easy out-and-back.
- **Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (Lagoa):** The classic flat Zona Sul loop, a paved 7.5 km path close to Ipanema and Leblon.
- **Copacabana promenade (Copacabana):** The 4 km Burle Marx promenade. On Sundays and holidays, including Friday 20 November, one side of Avenida Atlântica closes to cars.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Bibi Sucos (Jardim Oceânico):** A Rio juice bar near the Line 4 terminus. Order an açaí bowl with granola and banana or a grilled chicken plate. There are branches at BarraShopping and in Leblon too.
- **Gula Gula (BarraShopping):** Home-style Rio cooking and generous salads for a calm dinner the night before.
- **Café das Artes (Riocentro):** In the Pavilhão das Artes, open Saturdays 7am to 2pm for a coffee before Saturday heats.
- **Lagune Barra Hotel (Riocentro):** The hotel restaurant inside the complex, run by El Dourado by Sapore since August 2026.

### Race weekend events and parties

As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for HYROX Rio de Janeiro beyond the on-site Entertainment Zone. Watch HYROX Brasil's official channels and local run clubs closer to race week. Riocentro is also hosting the World Rescue Challenge from 19 to 22 November in Pavilion 3, so expect a busy site.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Lagune Barra Hotel (Riocentro):** Guests get saunas and a rooftop pool steps from the finish.
- **Venit Barra Hotel (Barra da Tijuca):** A spa center, pool and sauna. Ask about access for non-guests.
- **Barra beach (Barra da Tijuca):** The sea averages about 23°C (73°F) in November, good for a leg soak.

**Things to do:**

- Take in the modernist **Cidade das Artes** cultural complex in Barra.
- Walk the **Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas** path at sunset.
- Stroll the **Copacabana** promenade and its famous black-and-white pavement.
- Visit **Parque Rita Lee**, the city park opened in 2024 inside the Olympic Park.

### Local insights

- **Friday is a national holiday:** Dia da Consciência Negra, Friday 20 November, has been a national holiday since 2024. Banks close and many businesses keep holiday hours, so shop on Thursday.
- **Paying for transit:** MetrôRio turnstiles take contactless cards and phone wallets. Buses and BRT use the Jaé card or app, and buses stopped taking cash in 2026. Bank cards were only being tested on BRT in September 2026, so don't count on them.
- **Ride-hail is the default:** Uber and 99 both work. At airports, use official taxi booths or your app and check the car matches, since the UK government warns about fake drivers.
- **Cards and Pix, not cash:** Card or Pix covers most payments. Pix needs a Brazilian bank account or CPF, so carry a contactless card and a little cash.
- **Tipping is on the bill:** Restaurants add a 10% service charge, usually the only tip, and asking to remove it is seen as rude.
- **Drink bottled or filtered water:** Tap-water quality varies and locals filter it, so buy bottles.
- **Eat like a Carioca:** A prato feito (PF), the cheap set lunch of rice, beans and a protein, is ideal carb loading. Açaí bowls are the beach-kiosk fuel.
- **Weather and street smarts:** November averages 20 to 28°C (68 to 82°F) with around 20 rainy days. Drogaria Pacheco pharmacies are everywhere. The UK government advises hiding your phone on the street, especially 4pm to 9pm, and avoiding city beaches after dark.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring ID.** Check-in is only on your race day, in person, opening 90 minutes before your division's first wave.
- **Find Pavilion 4.** Riocentro is huge and hosts another event that weekend, so check your entrance first.
- **Leave early.** West zone traffic is unpredictable and the BRT gets crowded, especially from the Zona Sul.
- **Buy spectator tickets in advance.** Friends need their own tickets, which a tracker listed at about R$54 in September.
- **Pack for rain and heat.** Bring a light rain jacket and electrolytes.
