## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Utrecht runs over five days in late November at Jaarbeurs, the big exhibition center right behind Utrecht Centraal station. You can step off a direct train from Schiphol and walk to the start, and the canals, wharf cellars and Dom Tower of the old town are just on the other side of the station. Pack for cold, wet weather and bring a contactless card.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 26 November to Monday 30 November 2026
- **Venue:** Jaarbeurs Utrecht
- **Address:** Jaarbeursplein 6, 3521 AL Utrecht
- **Nearest public transport:** Utrecht Centraal (trains, plus the Jaarbeursplein tram and bus stops on the station's west side). Jaarbeurs calls itself a stone's throw from the station.
- **Divisions:** HYROX Open and Pro singles, Doubles, Pro Doubles, Relays, the Company Challenge corporate relay, and Adaptive
- **Also on site:** HYROX Youngstars for ages 8 to 15, a BLACKROLL Recovery Zone and the Thunderdome viewing area

### Getting to the venue

**From Schiphol:** Several Intercity lines run directly from Schiphol to Utrecht Centraal, so there's no change. Jaarbeurs puts Schiphol about 30 minutes away. Tap your contactless bank card at the gate in the airport and again when you leave at Utrecht.

**From Utrecht Centraal:** Exit on the Jaarbeurs side (the west side) and follow the signs for Jaarbeursplein. Jaarbeurs recommends its Station-side entrance as the quickest way in for anyone arriving by train, tram or bus.

**By taxi or car:** Taxis can drop you at the rank at Jaarbeurs. If you drive, use the Parking-side entrance and book a space in advance on the Jaarbeurs parking site.

### Where to stay

Stay on the Jaarbeurs side for an early heat, or a few minutes further on in the station area or old town for more character, food and coffee.

- **NH Utrecht (Jaarbeurs):** On Jaarbeursplein itself, as close to the venue as you can sleep.
- **Inntel Hotels Utrecht Centre (Stationsgebied):** Connected directly to Utrecht Centraal, with a gym, an infinity pool and a sauna in its Spa Dôme.
- **Leonardo Hotel Utrecht City Center (Vredenburg):** About 250 m from the station, according to the hotel, with the old town on its doorstep.
- **Mother Goose Hotel (Ganzenmarkt):** A 23-room boutique hotel in the historic center, a quieter choice for recovery nights.
- **Stayokay Utrecht Centrum (Neude):** A good-value hostel about 10 minutes' walk from the station. It's cashless, so bring a card.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Dutch Gym Utrecht West (West):** Runs a hybrid training facility set up for HYROX race elements such as sled pushes, SkiErg and wall balls, plus HYROX small-group sessions at its West and Oost clubs. HYROX access comes with a Premium membership. Day passes aren't advertised, so contact the gym first.
- **CrossFit Dom City (Zuidwest):** It runs coached HYROX classes at its Havenweg and Overste den Oudenlaan locations and lets visitors book a drop-in online.
- **Kaput Fit (West):** A small functional gym west of the station. It offers a free trial class, but day-pass availability isn't confirmed.

### Where locals run

- **Singel canal ring (Binnenstad):** The outer canal around the old town is just under 6 km long and lined much of the way by the Zocherpark green strip. It makes a flat, scenic loop from any central hotel.
- **Wilhelminapark (Oost):** An 1898 park with a big pond, east of the old town. The Singelloop 10K road race has used it since 1960.
- **Máximapark (Leidsche Rijn):** A 300-hectare park in the west of the city. Its car-free asphalt path, Het Lint, loops 8 km around the edge.
- **Amelisweerd (Bunnik):** Wooded estate paths along the Kromme Rijn just east of the city.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **De Oude Muntkelder (Oudegracht):** A pancake house in a wharf cellar on the canal. From Monday to Thursday you can eat unlimited pancakes for two hours, which suits the Thursday and Monday race days. In winter it also serves snert, the thick Dutch pea soup.
- **Spaghetteria Korte Koestraat (Binnenstad):** A fresh-pasta bar open for dinner daily from 17:00. An easy carb load.
- **Stadskasteel Oudaen (Oudegracht):** A 13th-century city castle with a restaurant and its own brewery.
- **De Winkel van Sinkel (Oudegracht):** A grand café on the canal that's open from morning to night. Good for breakfast or a post-race dinner.

### Race weekend events and parties

On site, the confirmed extras are HYROX Youngstars, the BLACKROLL Recovery Zone, a Red Bull and MyProtein finish zone, and the Thunderdome viewing area. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Keep an eye on HYROX's official channels and local run clubs as race week gets closer.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Spa Dôme at Inntel Hotels (Stationsgebied):** An infinity pool with a Dom Tower view, plus a Finnish sauna and a Turkish steam bath, open daily from 06:00 to 21:30. Check with the hotel whether non-guests can use it.

**Things to do:**

- Climb the **Dom Tower**, the tallest belfry in the Netherlands at 112 m. Book online and use the free lockers, since bags aren't allowed inside.
- Walk the **Oudegracht**, the old town's 2 km canal, where old warehouses at the water's edge are now cafés and restaurants.
- Bring the kids to the **Miffy Museum** (nijntje museum), which is aimed at toddlers and preschoolers. You need a timed ticket.
- Pick up a bag of pepernoten from any shop during **Sinterklaas season**. The holiday peaks on 5 December, just after race weekend.

### Local insights

- **Tap in, tap out:** Any contactless debit or credit card, or a phone with your card on it, works as a ticket on NS trains. Check in and out with the same card or phone. You'll travel second class at full fare, and the day's trips are charged as one payment the next day.
- **Tapped by mistake?** If you check out at the same station within 60 minutes, NS cancels the journey and charges you nothing.
- **Card, not cash:** Many places only take cards. Stayokay is cashless, and Oudaen takes only PIN (Dutch debit cards) or credit cards. Some cafés also bill per table, so sort out who owes what before you ask for the check.
- **Bikes rule:** About 51% of trips in Utrecht are by bike, and the station has the world's largest bicycle parking garage. Bike theft is common. If you rent one, lock it properly and leave it only in official bike parking, such as at Jaarbeursplein.
- **Late-November weather:** November in Utrecht averages highs of about 10°C (50°F) and lows near 4°C (39°F). Expect rain on about 13 days and only around 67 hours of sunshine all month.
- **Sinterklaas season:** Sinterklaas arrives in mid-November, and shops are full of pepernoten, kruidnoten, speculaas and chocolate letters until 5 December. They make a cheap, sugary snack.
- **Getting a ride:** Bolt runs in Utrecht, with standard, Comfort, XL and Premium options.
- **Data:** EU and EEA SIMs roam at home prices. Everyone else should set up an eSIM; every Dutch carrier has offered 5G in Utrecht since 2022.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Use the Station-side entrance.** Jaarbeurs says it's the quickest way in if you arrive by train, tram or bus.
- **Get there for doors.** The venue opens at 07:00 and the first waves start at 08:00. Spectators who arrive before 07:00 go through the Spectators Desk and need a ticket and ID.
- **Pack your bag tight.** Bag drop is next to the changing rooms. Small gym bags are accepted only with everything inside, and you must collect your bag within an hour of finishing.
- **Buy spectator tickets in advance.** Friends need their own spectator tickets, sold separately from athlete entries.
- **Dress for the walk.** Bring a waterproof layer for the walk from the station and dry, warm clothes for afterward.
