## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Vancouver runs for four days just before Christmas at the Vancouver Convention Centre, on the Coal Harbour waterfront. December here means short, wet days, but the seawall starts at the venue's door and the city's Christmas Market is set up right next to it. The one thing to know is that the race is in the West Building, Halls A, B and C, not the East Building inside Canada Place.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 17 December to Sunday 20 December 2026
- **Venue:** Vancouver Convention Centre (West Building, Halls A, B and C)
- **Address:** 1055 Canada Place, Vancouver, BC V6C 0C3
- **Nearest public transport:** Waterfront station (Canada Line, Expo Line, SeaBus and West Coast Express), a short walk east of the venue
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Adaptive Men and Women, Pro Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men, Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays
- **Also on site:** The HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners and the Thunderdome viewing area. The provisional schedule puts the Pro singles and all relays on Friday 18 December.

### Getting to the venue

**From Vancouver International Airport (YVR):** Take the SkyTrain Canada Line from YVR–Airport station to Waterfront, the end of the line. It takes about 25 minutes with no change. Then walk west along the waterfront to the West Building. Trips starting at the airport carry a $6.50 YVR AddFare on top of the regular fare.

**From downtown and Yaletown:** The Canada Line stops at Yaletown–Roundhouse and Vancouver City Centre on its way to Waterfront.

### Where to stay

Coal Harbour and the waterfront put you steps from the venue. The West End, around Robson Street, is a short walk away with more mid-range and budget hotels. Yaletown and the stadium area near Beatty Street are on the Canada Line and good value.

- **Fairmont Pacific Rim:** At 1038 Canada Place, across the road from the West Building, with a rooftop pool and a spa.
- **Pan Pacific Vancouver:** Inside Canada Place, above the convention center's East Building, with a heated saltwater rooftop pool. It's a short walk to the West Building.
- **Coast Coal Harbour Vancouver Hotel by APA:** At 1180 West Hastings Street, a walk or short taxi ride from the venue, with a gym and a heated outdoor pool.
- **Blue Horizon Hotel:** On Robson Street in the West End, with a small indoor pool, a whirlpool and a steam room for after the race.
- **Hotel Willo:** A budget option at 733 Beatty Street with shared kitchens and laundry. Some rooms share bathrooms, so check before you book.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **Elite Performance (Downtown):** On Howe Street, listed as an official HYROX Training Club with coached sessions using sleds, rowers and carries. Drop-in availability isn't confirmed, so contact the gym first.
- **Dynasty Gym (Downtown):** On Hornby Street, listed as an official HYROX affiliate. Its HYROX classes don't require the gym's CrossFit foundations course.
- **Function Health Club (Downtown):** On Beatty Street, listed as an official HYROX affiliate with HYROX-specific coaching.
- **CrossFit BC (Olympic Village):** Listed as an official HYROX Training Club, with dedicated HYROX classes and competition equipment.

### Where locals run

- **Coal Harbour Seawall (Coal Harbour):** The seawall starts on the venue's doorstep and runs west along Coal Harbour toward Stanley Park. It's flat and paved, good for an easy 3 to 5 km out-and-back on race morning.
- **Stanley Park Seawall (Stanley Park):** The Stanley Park section is about 9 km from Coal Harbour to Second Beach, flat and paved along the water. Cyclists ride counterclockwise in their own lane, so keep to the pedestrian side.
- **False Creek Seawall (False Creek):** The same continuous path, 22 km in total, carries on around False Creek past Yaletown, Olympic Village and Granville Island. Pick it up from Yaletown hotels for a flat recovery jog.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Miku (Coal Harbour):** In Granville Square at the foot of Howe Street, a short walk from the venue. Miku introduced aburi, or flame-seared, sushi to Vancouver in 2008. Rice and fish make a good dinner the night before.
- **Café Medina (Downtown):** At 780 Richards Street, known for brunch and its Belgian waffles. A solid carb-heavy breakfast before a late-morning heat.
- **Japadog (Downtown):** The Robson Street shop of the local chain that started as a street stand in 2005. Its Japanese-style hot dogs are a fun post-race snack.
- **Granville Island Public Market (Granville Island):** A year-round indoor market with about 50 vendors selling fruit, baked goods and prepared food. Stock up for race day or graze afterward.

### Race weekend events and parties

The confirmed extras are the HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners, the Thunderdome viewing area, and age-group ceremonies after each division. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. The Vancouver Christmas Market runs next door at Jack Poole Plaza until 24 December, but it's a separate event with its own tickets. Watch HYROX's official channels and local run clubs for news.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Fairmont Spa (Coal Harbour):** The spa at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, across the road from the venue, alongside a rooftop pool.
- **Blue Horizon Hotel (West End):** Guests can use the steam room, whirlpool and indoor pool after racing.

**Things to do:**

- Run or walk the **Stanley Park Seawall** on the day after the race.
- Visit the **Vancouver Christmas Market** at Jack Poole Plaza, right beside the venue.
- Take a False Creek ferry or the Aquabus to **Granville Island**.
- Stroll the waterfront around **Jack Poole Plaza**, home of the 2010 Olympic Cauldron.

### Local insights

- **Tap your card, but only one:** TransLink accepts contactless Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Interac Debit, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Tap in and tap out with the same card, and take other contactless cards out of your wallet so the reader doesn't charge the wrong one.
- **Budget for the airport AddFare:** Any trip starting at YVR–Airport station carries a $6.50 AddFare. Trips into the airport don't.
- **Weekends are one zone:** After 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, and all day on weekends and holidays, every SkyTrain trip is charged as one zone. A single fare covers transfers for 90 minutes.
- **Expect rain and early darkness:** December averages about 7°C (44°F) by day and 1°C (34°F) at night, with rain on around 20 days and only about 57 hours of sun all month. Sunset can be as early as 4:10 p.m., so bring a waterproof jacket and a headlamp or bright layer for seawall runs.
- **Prices don't include tax:** British Columbia adds 5% federal GST and 7% provincial PST, so expect a total of up to 12% on top of the listed price.
- **The Christmas Market is next door:** The Vancouver Christmas Market at Jack Poole Plaza, beside the West Building, runs until 24 December.
- **Try aburi sushi:** Flame-seared aburi sushi is a Vancouver favorite, and Miku, which introduced it to the city, is a few minutes' walk from the venue.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Go to the West Building.** HYROX is in Halls A, B and C of the West Building. The East Building, inside Canada Place with the Pan Pacific hotel, is a separate building.
- **Bring ID to check in.** Nobody can check in for you, and registration opens 90 minutes before your start time.
- **Check your start time three days out.** Individual start times are linked about three days before the race.
- **Spectating with an athlete ticket.** You can only spectate with your athlete ticket on the day you race. Anyone entering before your check-in window goes through Spectator Check-In with a ticket and ID.
