## Race weekend guide (checked 2026-10-15)

HYROX Verona runs over four days at the end of January at Veronafiere, the city's big exhibition center just south of Porta Nuova station. The Roman Arena, the Adige and a plate of risotto all'Amarone are a short ride away. The one thing to know: Verona's buses take a tap of your contactless card.

### Race weekend at a glance

- **Dates:** Thursday 28 January to Sunday 31 January 2027
- **Venue:** Fiera di Verona (Veronafiere)
- **Address:** Viale del Lavoro 8, 37135 Verona (VR)
- **Nearest public transport:** Verona Porta Nuova station, about 10 minutes on foot or a short city-bus ride
- **Divisions:** HYROX Men and Women, Pro Men and Women, Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Pro Doubles (Men, Women), and Men's, Women's and Mixed Relays
- **Also on site:** A HYROX Entertainment Zone with partners and the Thunderdome viewing area

### Getting to the venue

**From Verona Villafranca (Valerio Catullo) Airport:** The Verona Airlink bus (ATV line 199) leaves from the arrivals exit for Porta Nuova station, about 15 minutes away. It runs from 05:35 to 23:10, every 20–40 minutes. Tap a contactless card on board: the €7 fare also covers an onward city bus within 75 minutes.

**From Porta Nuova station:** Walk it. Veronafiere's directions start at platform 12: follow the signs out the back of the station, cross to Viale Piave and follow the arrows, about 10 minutes in all. City buses 21, 22 and 61 also stop on Viale del Lavoro, an 8–9 minute ride. Evening service runs on different lines, so check the ATV app if you race late.

**By car:** Leave the A4 at Verona Sud and follow the "Fiera" signs for about 1 km. Trade-show shuttles haven't been confirmed for HYROX.

### Where to stay

For an early wave, stay around the fairground or on Viale Piave. For evening walks and better dinners, stay in the historic center near the Arena and take the bus in.

- **Hotel San Pietro (Fiera):** On Via Santa Teresa, listed at about 400–500 m from Veronafiere, so a 5-minute walk to your wave.
- **Crowne Plaza Verona Fiera (Fiera):** On Via Belgio, about 0.55 km from the fair, with an indoor pool and a fitness center.
- **Hotel Leon d'Oro (Porta Nuova):** On Viale del Piave, 500 m from the station and 900 m from the fair, so train arrivals can walk to the venue as a warm-up.
- **Hotel Milano & Spa (Città Antica):** On Vicolo Tre Marchetti, a 2-minute walk from the Arena, with a rooftop hot tub overlooking it.

### Gyms for pre-race training

- **McFit Verona Fiera (Fiera):** At Viale del Lavoro 23b, on the same street as the venue. A Daily Pass costs €20, and it's open Monday to Friday 07:00–23:00 and weekends 09:00–21:00. It doesn't advertise any HYROX kit.
- **Anytime Fitness Verona Santa Lucia (Santa Lucia):** At Via Golosine 2, open 24/7 for members. It offers a free trial, but no day pass is listed, so contact it first.
- **CrossFit B Side (Golosine):** A 1,000 m² box on Via Enrico Fermi with coached 60-minute classes. Access is sold by subscription through Fitprime, so drop-in availability isn't confirmed.

None of these gyms says on its own site that it is an official HYROX Training Club.

### Where locals run

- **Lungadige (Ponte Pietra):** The north bank of the Adige from the Roman Ponte Pietra to Ponte Catena has a separated path of about 2.7 km each way, 5.5 km out and back. It's flat, with river and old-town views.
- **Ponte Catena to Diga di Chievo loop (Chievo):** For something longer, a 9.6 km loop continues upriver to the Chievo dam and back past Porta San Zeno, mostly paved, with only about 30 m of climbing.

### Where to eat and fuel up

- **Antica Bottega del Vino (Città Antica):** A classic wine bar and restaurant off Via Mazzini. Order the risotto with Amarone, the local red (€22), the night before. After the race, try the beef cheek braised in Amarone with soft polenta (€30). Book ahead.
- **Trattoria al Pompiere (Città Antica):** A century-old, wood-paneled trattoria with homemade fresh pasta and local cured meats. Open Monday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, closed Sundays.
- **Osteria Sottoriva (Città Antica):** An old-school osteria under the arcades of Via Sottoriva. Reviewers single out the lasagna and the horse-meat stew. It's listed as closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but open Sunday.
- **Locanda 4 Cuochi (Città Antica):** A lively, contemporary spot just behind the Arena. A plate of spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino is simple race fuel. Closed Mondays, dinner only on Tuesdays.

### Race weekend events and parties

The only confirmed extras are the HYROX Entertainment Zone and the Thunderdome viewing area. As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced. Watch HYROX's official channels as race week approaches.

### After the race

**Recovery:**

- **Hotel Milano & Spa (Città Antica):** Sauna, steam room and a rooftop hot tub with Arena views. Spa use costs extra, so ask whether non-guests can book.

**Things to do:**

- Stand in Piazza Bra and look up at the **Arena di Verona**, the Roman amphitheater finished around 30 AD.
- Walk across **Ponte Pietra**, the Roman bridge at the start of the riverside run.
- Cross the Adige on the fortified **Castelvecchio Bridge**, built in the 1350s by the Scaliger lords.

### Local insights

- **Tap on every bus:** ATV's Bip&Vai system takes contactless Visa, Mastercard and Maestro cards and phone wallets. A city trip costs €2.00 for 90 minutes of transfers, capped at €5.00 in 24 hours. You must tap every time you board.
- **Or buy ahead for less:** A 90-minute ticket costs €1.50 in the Ticket Bus Verona app or from resellers, but €2.00 from the driver.
- **One card for a group:** One card can pay for up to five people. Tap, press "+" to set the passenger count, and tap again.
- **Book a taxi by phone:** Radiotaxi Verona (+39 045 532666) answers 24 hours a day, and there's a rank at the main entrance of Porta Nuova.
- **Plan Sunday dinner:** Sunday's last waves run into the evening, and Al Pompiere is closed on Sundays. Book Saturday for your celebration or check opening days first.
- **Read the bill:** The coperto is a per-person cover charge, and servizio means service is already included. Otherwise locals round up or leave a couple of euros in cash.
- **Cold, foggy mornings:** January highs average about 7°C (45°F) and lows just below freezing, and winter fog is common from dusk to late morning. Italian tap water is generally safe, so refill your bottle at the hotel.

### Race-day tips for this venue

- **Bring physical ID.** Nobody can check in for you. Check-in opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave, and only on the day you race.
- **Check the day your division races.** Pro Women and Pro Men race on Friday late morning, the relays on Friday evening and Pro Doubles on Saturday evening. Start times are posted about three days before and can't be changed.
- **Know your gate.** Veronafiere has two entrances on Viale del Lavoro, Cangrande and San Zeno. HYROX hasn't said which one it will use, so read your athlete email.
- **Spectators go via the desk.** Friends who want to enter before your check-in need a ticket and ID at the Spectators Desk. The Thunderdome is the place to watch.
- **Dress for a January morning.** Wear a warm layer over your kit and pack dry clothes.
