How to get HYROX tickets when they sell out: release times, waitlists, Flex and transfers

How HYROX ticket releases work and every legit way to get a place at a sold-out race.

By , founder of RoxSkin · Last checked October 27, 2026 · 13 sources

To get HYROX tickets for a popular race, be logged in and ready before the release minute, know exactly which division and day you want, and have a plan B (another division, another day or another city). If you miss out, "sold out" is rarely final: join the event's notification list, check back often, and look at volunteering or a name-change transfer from someone you know. This guide covers how releases work, a pre-release checklist, which divisions go first, waitlists, safe transfers, what the Flex add-on really covers, and how volunteering can get you in.

How do HYROX ticket releases work?

HYROX tickets go on sale city by city, usually a few months before race weekend, and they're sold first-come, first-served. There's no ballot or lottery. Some events open with a short presale before the general sale.

Here's the typical order:

  1. Announcement. The event appears on the regional HYROX site and social accounts, usually with a release date and time. Third-party guides put this roughly three to six months before race weekend; one UK guide says 90 to 150 days.
  2. Presale or early access (some events). Affiliated gyms, called Training Clubs, often get codes that let members buy before everyone else. Partner gyms such as Virgin Active in the UK share these with members. US volunteers can also earn presale access through Reward Points.
  3. General sale. Registration opens to everyone at a set time in the event's time zone.
  4. Top-ups. As places come back from refunds and name changes, or HYROX adds extra waves, tickets reappear without much warning.
  5. Close. Online athlete registration usually closes on the Wednesday before the event, earlier if it sells out.

Presale is where a lot of the "tickets gone in 15 seconds" feeling comes from. When gyms get an allocation first, part of the event is gone before the public link even goes live. Ahead of Hong Kong's January 2027 race, for example, the South China Morning Post reported a 48-hour affiliate presale where one gym's 200 tickets went in about 20 minutes, before public sale opened at 6 PM local time.

Which races and divisions sell out first?

Big flagship events and team divisions usually go first. Smaller regional races often stay on sale for weeks.

  • Flagship cities sell out fastest. London ExCeL is often called the UK's fastest sell-out, New York and London have been reported to sell out "within hours or days," and Hong Kong's 2027 presale allocations went in minutes. Each region has its hot races, so don't assume yours will be easy.
  • Doubles and Relay often fill before Singles. Several third-party guides say team divisions go first. One UK guide says Women's Doubles is usually the first division to sell out and Solo Open usually the last.
  • Not every day goes at once. At multi-day events, check each day separately. A day that suits fewer people's travel or work can stay open longer.
  • Regional races can still be on sale a couple of weeks before race day.

If your first pick is gone, here are the realistic alternatives:

  • Same race, other division

    Flexible racersOften still open

Singles Open is often the last to go if Doubles is full, and vice versa.

  • Same race, other day

    LocalsOften still open

Multi-day events spread demand. A Thursday or Friday wave can be much easier to get.

  • Relay with friends

    GroupsCheapest per person

Four people split the race; see our relay guide.

  • Another city

    TravelersUsually available

Check the race calendar for nearby events and their release dates.

Choose your division carefully before you switch, though. Division changes after purchase aren't allowed, even with Flex, so a panic buy into Pro you can't finish is a costly mistake. Our divisions guide helps you pick.

How do I prepare before tickets go on sale?

Treat release day like a concert drop: do everything except click "pay" the day before.

The day before:

  • Create or log in to your HYROX account on the regional site that sells your race, and check your password works.
  • Save your card details and make sure your bank won't block an overseas or large online payment. Have a backup card.
  • Confirm the exact release time in the event's time zone. Set two alarms: 15 minutes before and 2 minutes before.
  • Decide your division, day and wave preference, plus a second and third choice. Write them down.
  • For Doubles and Relay, collect your partners' details (full names, emails and anything else the booking form asks for) so one person can book the whole team without texting mid-checkout.
  • Decide on Flex now (see below). It can only be added at checkout.
  • Get your presale code if you have one, from your gym or volunteer account, and check which races it covers.

On release day:

  • Be on the event page 10 to 15 minutes early, on a stable connection. A laptop on wired internet or good Wi-Fi beats a phone on patchy data.
  • If there's a virtual queue, follow its instructions and don't open lots of tabs or keep refreshing.
  • Go straight for your first choice. If it shows sold out, move to your plan B immediately. Don't wait to discuss.
  • Check out fast. Places in a basket aren't always held for long.
  • Look for the confirmation email (and your spam folder) before you relax.

Is there a HYROX waitlist?

Often, yes. Many sold-out event pages offer a waitlist or notification list, and people on it hear first when places come back. But it isn't guaranteed at every event, and a notification isn't a reserved ticket. You still have to buy quickly.

How to make the most of it:

  • Join the moment you see "Sold Out," for every division and day you'd happily race.
  • Whitelist HYROX emails so alerts don't land in spam, and turn on phone notifications.
  • Check the event page yourself every few days. Places freed by refunds and name changes, and extra waves, can appear without an announcement. Third-party ticket trackers report sold-out categories at busy events reopening many times a month.
  • Watch the weeks before the Flex deadlines. Refunds are worth the most up to 31 days before race day, so that's when a wave of places can come back.
  • Follow the regional HYROX accounts on Instagram and the newsletter for added waves.

Never pay a third party for "priority" access; always buy on the official site.

Can I buy or transfer a HYROX ticket from someone else?

Only through an official name change, and only if the original buyer bought Flex or Lite Flex. There's no official resale marketplace in the 26/27 season. A name change moves the ticket to a new athlete but can't change the division, event, day or age group, and in some regions the new athlete must be the same gender.

So if a friend can't race and has Flex or Lite Flex, they can name-change their place to you up to 7:59 AM (event time) the day before their race day. Without an add-on, the ticket can't be passed on at all.

The HYROX terms we've read (the Benelux 26/27 version) say resold or copied tickets can be cancelled with no compensation, so even a real ticket bought for profit could leave you unable to race. The safe version looks like this: someone you know, who has Flex or Lite Flex, does the name change in their own HYROX account, at face value, and you see the confirmation in your name before any money moves.

That's also why some racers grumble about "paying to sell tickets." The Flex fee is effectively the price of being allowed to pass your place on. If there's any chance you won't race, it's usually worth paying.

What does the Flex add-on cover, and what doesn't it?

Flex is a refund and name-change add-on you buy at checkout. It's time-based protection, not insurance. The windows are the same whatever your reason for cancelling.

Flex and Lite Flex windows. Deadlines are 7:59 AM in the event's time zone; bar widths are not to scale. Without an add-on, nothing can be refunded or renamed.

In the 26/27 terms we found:

  • Flex: 100% refund until 7:59 AM (event time) 31 days before your race day, 50% until 7:59 AM 7 days before, plus a name change.
  • Lite Flex: a name change only, no refund.
  • Both must be chosen at checkout and exclude the Flex and service fees from any refund.

What Flex does not do:

  • It doesn't treat injury or illness differently. If you get hurt 20 days before the race, you're in the 50% window, even with a doctor's note. That's the "PSA: a documented injury with Flex can still cost you 50%" thread in a sentence. Inside the last 7 days, there's no refund at all.
  • It doesn't let you switch event, day or division.
  • It doesn't cover travel. Flights and hotels are separate, so book refundable rates or buy travel insurance.
  • It isn't always on sale. Some regions stop selling full Flex about six weeks before the race, and it may not apply to charity, spectator or championship tickets.

Terms vary by region and change between seasons, so read the Flex wording on your own event page at checkout. The conditions shown when you buy are the ones that apply. Our cost guide has prices and more refund detail.

Can I get a refund without Flex?

Generally no. Without Flex, HYROX tickets are non-refundable and can't be renamed, transferred or moved to another division or event, and that includes injury. The main exceptions are when an organizer postpones or cancels an event, in which case it sets out the options itself.

If you're stuck with a ticket you can't use:

  • Contact customer support anyway, politely and with any documentation. Exceptions aren't promised, but asking costs nothing.
  • Check your travel insurance or credit card, which sometimes covers prepaid event costs for medical reasons.
  • Spectate or volunteer at the race instead, so the weekend isn't wasted.

Can volunteering get me a HYROX ticket?

Sometimes, and it's one of the few routes into a sold-out season. In several regions, a completed volunteer shift earns a free or discounted entry to a future race, and US volunteers earn Reward Points that can come with presale access. Rewards vary by region and season, so check the volunteer section of your event page.

Volunteering won't get you into the race you're working at, so plan a season ahead: crew at one event, then use the reward on the next one. It also teaches you a lot about the course before you race it. Our HYROX volunteer guide explains roles, shifts and how to sign up.

Can sponsors help once I have a ticket?

Yes. Some amateur racers get local businesses to cover entry, travel or hotel in exchange for visibility, for example by offering up to 15 logo spots on their race-day body through RoxSkin. See how to get sponsored for HYROX.

FAQ

How fast do HYROX tickets sell out?

It depends on the race. Flagship events can sell their presale or first allocations in minutes: one Hong Kong gym's 200 presale tickets went in about 20 minutes, and London and New York have been reported to sell out within hours or days. Many regional races stay on sale for weeks. Doubles and Relay often go before Singles.

When do HYROX tickets go on sale?

Usually three to six months before race weekend, announced city by city. Some events have a presale for Training Club members or eligible volunteers before the general sale. Check the exact time in the event's time zone on the official site via [https://hyrox.com/).

How do I get HYROX tickets when they're sold out?

Join the event's waitlist or notification list, check the page often for places freed by refunds and extra waves, consider another division, day or city, or ask a friend with Flex or Lite Flex to name-change their place to you. Volunteering can earn an entry to a future race.

Can I buy HYROX tickets secondhand?

Not safely. There's no official resale marketplace, and terms we've read say resold tickets can be cancelled without compensation. The only official transfer is a name change by the original buyer, which needs Flex or Lite Flex and can't change the division or day.

Does Flex refund me if I get injured?

Only within the normal windows. Flex refunds 100% up to 31 days before race day and 50% up to 7 days before, whatever the reason, including injury. In the last 7 days there's no refund, so a name change to another athlete is often your best option.

Can I get a HYROX refund without Flex?

Generally no. Tickets without Flex can't be refunded, renamed or transferred, even for injury. It's worth contacting support and checking your travel insurance, but don't count on an exception.

Which HYROX division sells out first?

Team divisions often go first. Third-party guides say Doubles and Relay fill fastest, with Women's Doubles usually first in the UK and Singles Open usually last. Popular days and waves also go early.

Can volunteering get me a HYROX ticket?

In many regions, yes, for a future race. A completed shift can earn a free or discounted entry, and US volunteers earn Reward Points that can include presale access. Rewards vary by region and season.

How do I find HYROX races near me?

Browse our race calendar, which lists upcoming HYROX events so you can check which are nearby and when their tickets are released. New events are announced city by city on the regional HYROX site and social accounts, roughly three to six months before race weekend. Each region runs its own booking system, so create an account on the site that sells your race. Smaller regional races often stay on sale for weeks, while flagship cities sell out fastest.
