HYROX Doubles rules 2026/27: splitting work, penalties, weights and order

The 26/27 HYROX Doubles rules in plain English: running together, sharing stations, weights, age groups, penalties and price.

By , founder of RoxSkin · Last checked October 27, 2026 · 2 sources

In HYROX Doubles, two partners race one full HYROX together: you run every 1 km side by side, enter and leave each station together, and split the station work however you like. You race the same eight stations in the same fixed order as Singles, at the singles loads for your category. This guide covers the 26/27 rules: running together, sharing each station, weights by category, age groups, what happens if you get the order wrong, a full penalty table, and what Doubles costs compared with Singles.

  • 2partners, one shared race
  • 1 minpenalty if one partner runs ahead
  • More than 3togetherness penalties: Out of Competition

This page is about the rules. For tactics like how to split stations and pick a partner, read our Doubles strategy guide.

What are the HYROX Doubles rules?

The core of Doubles comes down to four rules:

  1. Run every 1,000 m together. If one partner runs ahead, it's a 1-minute penalty.
  2. Enter each station together. The work can't start until both of you are there.
  3. Leave each station together once the work is done.
  4. Share the station work however you choose. The rulebook doesn't make you split it 50/50.

Everything else follows the normal HYROX rules: same course, same station order, same movement standards and the same banned items. Our guide to what's not allowed at HYROX covers kit, chalk and outside help.

Do Doubles partners have to run together?

Yes, for the whole 1,000 m between every station. If one of you runs ahead, the team gets a 1-minute penalty. If a team collects more than 3 penalties for not staying together, it's marked Out of Competition. You still finish, but you don't get a ranking.

In practice:

  • The faster partner runs at the slower partner's pace. Don't wait at the arch, because that's the gap judges and timing mats see.
  • Walk or jog into the Roxzone together. Don't sprint ahead to set up the next station.
  • Count laps together. You're responsible for your own lap count, and missed laps are penalized (see the table below).

Our 26/27 rule changes guide explains how the togetherness rule developed.

Entering and leaving stations together

You go into each station as a pair and come out as a pair. The working partner can't start until the resting partner has arrived, and you leave together once the station is complete.

The resting partner's job is to be ready at the exit when the work finishes, not still drinking or catching their breath across the Roxzone. A slow exit costs time, and an exit that leaves your partner behind is the same togetherness problem as running ahead.

You also have to use the right arches. Going through the wrong Roxzone arch, or leaving a station through the "IN" arch, is 2 minutes each time, just as it is in Singles.

How can you split each station in Doubles?

The rulebook lets you share the work at every station as you choose. One partner can do most of the sled push while the other takes more wall balls, or you can alternate small chunks all the way through. What has to happen is that the full station gets done: an incomplete station is a disqualification in 26/27, so the team must finish every meter and every rep between you.

Here's what our sources confirm, station by station:

Station Doubles rule (26/27)
SkiErg 1,000 m Shared as you choose. The team must finish the full 1,000 m
Sled push 50 m Shared as you choose. All 4 × 12.5 m lanes must be completed
Sled pull 50 m Shared as you choose. All 4 lanes must be completed
Burpee broad jumps 80 m Resting partner walks behind, and the incoming partner's hands go where the working partner's feet landed
Row 1,000 m Shared as you choose. The team must finish the full 1,000 m
Farmers carry 200 m Shared as you choose. Every lap must be completed
Sandbag lunges 100 m Shared as you choose. The bag stays on the shoulders
Wall balls 100 reps The two partners share the 100 reps

The burpee broad jump rules are the most specific. The resting partner has to walk behind the working partner, not beside them, and must not get in other racers' way. At each handover, the incoming partner places their hands where the working partner's feet landed, with toes and fingers in line. Breaking either rule follows the usual protocol: a warning first, then 15 seconds per infringement. See our burpee broad jump guide for technique.

HYROX Doubles weights by category

Doubles uses the singles loads for your category. Sled weights include the sled.

Category Sled push / pull Farmers carry Sandbag / wall ball
Doubles Women 102 / 78 kg 2 × 16 kg 10 kg / 4 kg
Doubles Men 152 / 103 kg 2 × 24 kg 20 kg / 6 kg
Doubles Mixed 152 / 103 kg 2 × 24 kg 20 kg / 6 kg
Pro Doubles Women 152 / 103 kg 2 × 24 kg 20 kg / 6 kg
Pro Doubles Men 202 / 153 kg 2 × 32 kg 30 kg / 9 kg

A few things to notice:

  • Doubles Mixed uses the men's Open loads for both partners. Those are the same as the Women Pro loads. The woman in a mixed pair lifts the same sled and kettlebells as the man.
  • The wall ball target follows each athlete, not the team. Women throw to 2.70 m and men to 3.00 m, including in Mixed.
  • Pro Doubles exists for women and men. Our sources list no Pro Mixed Doubles category.

Doubles requirements: age, team and category rules

  • Two athletes per team. Doubles Women is two women, Doubles Men is two men, and Doubles Mixed is one woman and one man. Pro Doubles Women and Pro Doubles Men follow the same pattern at Pro loads.
  • Minimum age 16 on race day for both partners. The youngest age group is Under 24 (16–24).
  • Age group by average age. Your team's age group is the average age of the two partners on race day, in the same five-year bands as Singles. A 44-year-old and a 56-year-old average 50, so they race as a 50–54 team.
  • Your partner is locked in. Once the team is set, the rulebook says you can't change partners without a valid medical note. A Flex or Lite Flex add-on, bought at checkout, allows one name change, so that's the realistic fix if a partner drops out.
  • No division switches. For 26/27, you can't move your ticket to another event or switch division after you buy. That includes Doubles to Singles.
  • World Championships. For age-group qualification, spots go through Pro singles and Mixed Doubles, with teams aged 60+ qualifying via Open. Our Worlds qualification guide has the details.

What happens if you do the workout in the wrong order?

The station order is fixed for every division: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls, with a 1 km run before each. Doing stations in the wrong order is a 3-minute penalty the first time and a disqualification after that. Skipping a whole run or station is a disqualification.

In Doubles, the penalty lands on the team, because you're one entry. Two people can also get confused twice as easily, so agree on one lap-counting method and say the next station out loud as you leave each one. A missed run lap costs 3 to 7 minutes per lap depending on the venue's lap layout. On a one-lap course, missing it means missing the whole run, which is a DQ.

HYROX Doubles penalties table

These are the penalties that matter most for a Doubles team under the 26/27 rules. Movement-standard penalties apply to whichever partner is working.

Infringement Penalty
One partner runs ahead 1 minute
More than 3 togetherness penalties Out of Competition (no ranking)
Stations in the wrong order 3 minutes the first time, then DQ
Skipping a whole run or station DQ
Missing a run lap 3–7 minutes per lap (DQ on a 1-lap course)
Incomplete station (short erg meters, missed sled lane or carry lap, under 100 wall balls) DQ
Wrong Roxzone arch, or leaving a station by "IN" 2 minutes each
Movement standard broken (stations 1–7) Warning, then 15 seconds each
Burpee broad jump partner position or handover Warning, then 15 seconds each
Sandbag off the shoulders 15 seconds each time
Wrong weight on farmers carry or lunges DQ
Kettlebells not put back properly 30 seconds
Own chalk, outside assistance, water over your head, littering 2 minutes each

Wall balls have no warnings. A rep either counts or it doesn't.

How much does HYROX Doubles cost compared with Singles?

Prices vary by city and event, and HYROX sets them in local currency, so there's no single Doubles price. At the events we've checked, Doubles is priced per person, a little below the Singles price. As a pair you pay almost double a Singles ticket in total. A service fee is added at checkout.

What costs extra compared with Singles:

  • Two tickets, not one. Each partner pays the per-person price.
  • Flex for two. Third-party guides suggest Flex costs more for a Doubles team than for a Singles entry. Check the price at checkout.
  • Charity places at some events use a combined team fundraising minimum rather than a per-person one.

Where Doubles saves money is on the trip: sharing a room and travel usually saves more than the small ticket discount. Our ticket cost guide has example prices by city, refund rules and the Flex terms, and the race weekend budget guide adds up the rest.

Can one partner do all the work?

The rules let you split the station work however you choose, so a lopsided split is legal. It's rarely fast, though. You both still run every kilometer together, so a partner who does all the heavy work slows the whole team on the next run. Our Doubles strategy guide explains how to balance the split.

FAQ

What are the HYROX Doubles rules?

Two partners run every 1 km together, enter and leave every station together, and split the station work however they like. The course, station order and movement standards match Singles. Running ahead costs 1 minute, and more than 3 togetherness penalties makes the team Out of Competition.

What changed in the HYROX Doubles rules for 2026?

For 26/27, the rulebook keeps the 1-minute penalty for running ahead and adds Out of Competition after more than 3 togetherness penalties. Media coverage also reports a 10-second maximum gap, which we couldn't confirm in the rulebook. An incomplete station is now a DQ, and the burpee broad jumps have specific partner positioning rules.

What is the penalty for mixing up the workout order in Doubles?

Doing stations in the wrong order is a 3-minute penalty the first time and a disqualification after that. Skipping a whole run or station is a disqualification. The penalty applies to the team.

How much does HYROX Doubles cost?

Prices vary by city and event. Doubles is usually priced per person, slightly below a Singles ticket, so a pair pays almost double a Singles price in total, plus a service fee. See our ticket cost guide for example prices.

What are the requirements for HYROX Doubles?

Two athletes, each at least 16 on race day, in a women's, men's or mixed team. Your age group is the average age of you both. Partners can't be changed once set without a valid medical note, though a Flex name change may help, and you can't switch division after buying.

Do both partners have to do every station in HYROX Doubles?

No. You both enter and leave every station together, but you share the work inside it however you choose. The team just has to complete the full station.

What weights do you use in HYROX Doubles?

The singles loads for your category: Open women's loads for Doubles Women, Open men's loads for Doubles Men and Doubles Mixed (both partners), and Pro loads for Pro Doubles. Each athlete throws wall balls to the target for their own sex.
