HYROX Helsinki's December race runs the weekend before Christmas at Messukeskus, the expo center beside Pasila station. The racing is indoors, but outside you get about six hours of daylight and temperatures near freezing, so plan around the dark and the cold. The reward is Helsinki at its coziest, with Christmas markets, saunas and a half-hour train from the airport to the venue.
Checked 15 October 2026. Details change, so confirm bookings directly.
Your weekend in Helsinki, mapped
Hotels near the venue, gyms for a shakeout session, where to fuel up and where to recover.
Pasila is the obvious base, within walking distance of the venue, the Tripla mall and the airport train. Vallila, just east, is quieter and near two HYROX gyms. For the Christmas markets, stay in the city center by Central Station, one train stop away.

Local insights for Helsinki
The things a friend who lives here would tell you before race weekend.
Tap to ride
All HSL trams, buses, trains and the Suomenlinna ferry take contactless cards and phones. Pick your zones on the reader before tapping (ABC for the airport). No ticket prints, so show the same card to inspectors.
Six hours of light
Around the solstice, Helsinki gets under six hours of daylight and December averages under an hour of sunshine a day. Early heats start in the dark, and evening waves finish in it.
Near-freezing and wet
December averages 1.4 °C (34.5 °F) by day and −2.9 °C (26.8 °F) at night, with precipitation on 19 days. Expect slush. Locals run in shoes with grip and wear reflectors.
No tipping needed
Service is included in Finnish bills, and cards work almost everywhere, even at market stalls.
Drink the tap water
Finnish tap water is clean, cold and free. Ask for still water in restaurants or you may get sparkling.
Sunday hours
Tripla's shops open 11:00–19:00 on Sunday, and the market halls are closed. Stock up on Saturday. Tripla also has a pharmacy, Apteekki 51.
Taxis and apps
At the airport, Uber, Bolt and pre-booked cars pick up at parking building P2, not the taxi station. In town, always choose a fixed price in the app.
Sauna etiquette
At Kotiharju, men and women bathe on separate floors and swimsuits aren't allowed. Shower first, cover with a clean towel if you like, and never add wood to the stove.
Getting to Messukeskus Helsinki
From Helsinki Airport
Take an I or P commuter train to Pasila. Trains run roughly every 10 minutes during the day, and the ride takes about half an hour. An ABC ticket costs €4.80 with a contactless card. A taxi takes about 15 minutes.
From the city center or Central Station
Every local and long-distance train stops at Pasila, so any departure works. Tram 2 also runs from the center through Töölö and ends in front of Messukeskus.
Race-weekend events
