HYROX Rio de Janeiro races at Riocentro, a 2016 Olympic venue in Barra Olímpica on the city's west side. The one thing to know: Riocentro is a long way from Copacabana and Ipanema, so decide early whether to stay near the start line or commute from the beaches. Late November is warm and showery, and the Friday before is a national holiday.

Local insights for Rio de Janeiro
The things a friend who lives here would tell you before race weekend.
Friday is a national holiday
Dia da Consciência Negra, Friday 20 November, has been a national holiday since 2024. Banks close and many businesses keep holiday hours, so shop on Thursday.
Paying for transit
MetrôRio turnstiles take contactless cards and phone wallets. Buses and BRT use the Jaé card or app, and buses stopped taking cash in 2026. Bank cards were only being tested on BRT in September 2026, so don't count on them.
Ride-hail is the default
Uber and 99 both work. At airports, use official taxi booths or your app and check the car matches, since the UK government warns about fake drivers.
Cards and Pix, not cash
Card or Pix covers most payments. Pix needs a Brazilian bank account or CPF, so carry a contactless card and a little cash.
Tipping is on the bill
Restaurants add a 10% service charge, usually the only tip, and asking to remove it is seen as rude.
Drink bottled or filtered water
Tap-water quality varies and locals filter it, so buy bottles.
Eat like a Carioca
A prato feito (PF), the cheap set lunch of rice, beans and a protein, is ideal carb loading. Açaí bowls are the beach-kiosk fuel.
Weather and street smarts
November averages 20 to 28°C (68 to 82°F) with around 20 rainy days. Drogaria Pacheco pharmacies are everywhere. The UK government advises hiding your phone on the street, especially 4pm to 9pm, and avoiding city beaches after dark.
Getting to Riocentro
From Galeão International Airport (GIG)
The TransCarioca BRT runs 24 hours from both terminals to Terminal Alvorada in Barra, where you connect onward. With bags, an official taxi from the arrivals booths or Uber or 99 is simpler.
From Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) and the Zona Sul
Take Metrô Line 4 to its terminus at Jardim Oceânico, then a BRT toward Riocentro or Olof Palme. Check the route in a transit app such as Moovit. For big Riocentro events the city has run special BRT services from Jardim Oceânico. Ride-hail is simpler and is what the venue suggests.
By car
Riocentro has more than 5,800 parking spaces. For big events, the city advises avoiding congested Avenida Salvador Allende where possible.
Race-weekend events
Parties, expos and side events
As of 15 October 2026, no official after-party, expo or community run had been announced for HYROX Rio de Janeiro beyond the on-site Entertainment Zone. Watch HYROX Brasil's official channels and local run clubs closer to race week. Riocentro is also hosting the World Rescue Challenge from 19 to 22 November in Pavilion 3, so expect a busy site.
